I really hate when people tell you what to do to have a fulfilling life or when someone tells you "you wasted so many years doing that when you could've done something better"... No I didn't waste my time, I did what I wanted to do and I don't regret it. It's one thing if someone comes to a conclusion that they wasted their time with something instead doing something else and they try to change it, but it's compeletly different if someone else tries to change you. Look at your own life and stop telling people what to do with theirs just because you don't like or understand something.

@@anon8139 So what's your point? Is that your great argument against the Bible... lol. If you read the Bible, Jesus never tells you to do that, infact he preaches AGAINST hurting anybody. You should turn the other cheek.
So why did people still wage wars that were "christians"? Well, because you can believe the bible whilst not obeying the bible. Meaning, if Jesus himself would analyze those very people that killed others in his name, he would not call them "christians" or his sheep.
Do you see the flawed view you have? In order to come with an argument, you have to understand the issue first. The reason so many fake christians killed in the name of God was because they never really were christians to begin with, but fooled by the devil that these acts of evil somehow were good.
The road to hell is paved in good intentions. I bet if you asked those very people they would have great justifications for what they did. But if you read the Bible, Jesus does not ever ever ever one time AT ALL say, that murdering someone is ok. not even hurting someone.
If you don't follow what Jesus says, you're simply not his sheep. You're simply not christian.
You gotta play by the rules layed out by the Bible if you wanna make such arguments, dude.

      @KPenceable ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@siegpasta hahaha, everyone is such an NPC who knows absolutely nothing but espouses their opinions regardless. The character of Jesus says very contradictory things throughout the bible. He definitely promotes violence in many instances.
Here are a few that are more obvious
Matthew 10:34: "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household."
Luke 19:27: "But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me."
Luke 14:26: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple." (According to the scholar I read, you can't chop this up to misinterpretation, Jesus is literally saying to hate)
Now, you don't have to change your opinion if the narratives you like to believe give you less discomfort than having to make sense of the facts of what is actually said by the mythological jesus. The jesus character has a lot of virtues, but it's still a product of the mind of writers and mythology traditions from the past

As another exemple, Amouranth continued to upload porn movies the same day she was crying on her stream telling the world that her partner forced her to post lewd content. She never stopped uploading since then (the post count keeps on increasing). Yet no one is covering that because almost ever known youtuber took her words for granted and don't want to admit they have been bamboozled like everyone else. So it is not only between content creators and their followers, but the echo chambers between content creators of same mindsets that ride on the same waves for easy content. It is in their interest to follow the majority and mimic each other, and this to the detriment of the viewers as very few due diligence is done. This creates strange situtations where a content creator can bash loot boxes in an EA game because it is a popular topic, but promote Raid Shadow legends in the same video. They will also promote something like "established titles" without again some due diligence as other content creators do it also. So it must be ok, right. We know video games fills in the need of accomplishment that we want from real life, except it is artificially presented to us in such a way where you will always be moving forward and progressing to a degree. In most things in life you can get started, butif you fail, you fail and your time is wasted.

Right? Usually I'm on board with his takes. However, these arguments went no where. The 19 year old feeling unfulfilled argument for example. Like, oh really? You haven't struck anything fulfilling yet and thus you opt for the quick and instantly gratifying artificial sense of fulfillment, only to find yourself never even attempting at real life again because your down and depressed? Finding yourself consumed in radical rational thinking, enveloped with theories of inevitability and entropy. With probably no real community to support you when things that are guaranteed to give out begin to start giving out. A lot arguments being laid out all the time by Asmongold are heavily reliant on the presupposition that time isn't a factor and that what ever comfort has been accumulated now is permanently, lasting and will continue to exist forever. Once you can't use the internet anymore because the computer screen is to sensitive for your deteriorating brain and your eyesight is rapidly fading all due to some underlying decease or a nasty stumble over the trash in your room, or even just due to age; who exactly is going to be there to take care of you, and how are you going to get your fulfillment? Is it going to be your parents who might be long dead by then? Your kids you don't have? That partner from your previous relationship you failed to maintain? How about that lovely and helpful neighbor you have never even spoken to? Do you know his name?
Is he really arguing that without videogames, every dispositioned person in history should have just opted out of life because the existentiality of their inability to compete with some markets? Because life isn't always fair? Like, no! that's simply a wrong take. These are the words of a self destructive and depressed mind that has dominated the entire person, and tricked it into escapist fantasies. You know why depressed people sleep for 16 hours a day? Because the dream world is a portal through which the mind can escape to the world beyond, death, a world which it feels like it can control. The mind is seeking a literal after life. You walk that razor's edge long enough and you'll be one terrible set back removed from self deletion practices, and god knows life has plenty of terrible set backs in store for us. POINT IS: That mind is an organ like any other and you are the being in-between. You have to be able to negotiate with your mind, and a tell tale sign that you're failing is when you're becoming depended on parasocial relations. If you have your house in relatively decent order, which is hard work, you won't outpace your own restraints and you can enjoy these leisure activities as they are, never finding you blank staring into the screen because the game ended and you have nothing left in your library to play, or no money in the bank to purchase any.

In the episode, the criminal found that he couldn't lose at anything. If he robbed the bank, the police couldn't catch him. If he played Poker, he won every hand. That was the problem. While he enjoyed it at first, he came to realize that winning only has any value if you can lose in the first place. Imagine getting the worst hand you could in Poker, making no effort to hide it, and still beating the other 10 people at the table.

I disagree Asmon. Your digital life can not replace the real ones. Your digital friends do not share your life experience with you. They are not there when you are at your family's funeral, they are not there when you're having a backyard BBQ, they are not there to support you when you are trying to get over an addiction, they are not there when you are having a special moment and want to share it someone. So if you're fully immersed in the digital world, thinking you can get away from building a real life outside of it, you'd be in for a major reckoning down the road. And so many people have already fallen into this trap. Digital surrogacy is real. People watch you and donate to you and try to have discussions with you thinking that's the same thing as building a friendship. But you know that that's not the case.

This is one area that I totally disagree with Asmon’s point of view. The whole “well as long as YOUR happy” mentality is one of the most detrimental world views to come about. It’s true everyone has selfish tendencies but the internet and the digital has exacerbated those tendencies to a tangible negative level here in the west. And it’s not a lifestyle anyone truly wants to live either. People will cope hard af on this topic because it’s just true. They’ll come up with all the excuses and rationalizations they can to masquerade it as a valid existence. But we all know the truth. We want to be of service to others and leave a lasting impact on our communities and world beyond our selfish little existence. Whether that’s through family or community service and no digital realm or indulging behavior can be a substitute for it. At least not for any extended amount of time. Not a single person who has lived a life only in service to themselves has ever died genuinely happy. Only psychopaths do that.

It's hard to disagree with people on either side of the argument here. Asmon makes good points, but he speaks from the perspective of a single man who owns an inherited home in one of the least expensive cost of living states in the US, he rarely drives, he eats for one, he has made a very comfortable living in something that he's very good at, and that has great job security. That doesn't invalidate his opinion.
But a viewer with 4 children and a wife, who is working full time for a 55K salary in a field that is considered lucrative, didn't buy a home in 2012 when interest rates were half of what they were now and is having trouble competing in a market where people are buying up houses with cash to turn them into income properties, and is struggling to live on what should be a liveable income because groceries and gas have both doubled in the last year... Asmon doesn't understand that side of the argument. This guy's opinion makes sense.

The same advantages we have are also the same ones everyone else has. It doesn't matter how good my internet is or if I have a smartphone, there are numerous others with that advantage and more. Yeah. He really isn't as smart as he thinks he is. Watching the original video some of his responses missed the point of what he was responding to. It felt like he was trying too hard to find an argument to counter the content of the video. An example is his response to digital communities being a poor substitute for the real world (It is by the way) and he goes on a tangent about atheism finding validation online with like minded people. Which is nice but proves the point its not as fulfilling as it would be if they lived in a real world community that felt that same way. They lacked that and used the internet as a surrogate to substitute for that lack of community.
The real point of the video is people instead of trying to forge their own place in the community they live in they retreat into the digital world where the benefits are just a temporary fix. Turn off the power and now your alone surrounded by strangers. You cant leave behind your sick list of vidya game achievements to your kids because they mean NOTHING and are worth NOTHING. Yes you can use the internet to make money but your using the internet at that point as a TOOL and not as a means to find a place to belong, instead of belonging to the community you live in with real people that really care for you. People are more connected than ever but also more detached from each other more than any other point in history.

"you can learn anything you want and outcompete other people, making your life better, which you couldn't do before the internet"
i think that's basically asmon take, which imho is a bad take, i can outcompete, sure, but the other guy of which i surpassed, is now out of a job, and if he does the same as me, then someone else is out of a job, etc... the point is, being an entrepenour doesn't mean you'll succeed, it doesn't matter if all the information neccessary to be an astrophisicist is out there available for everyone on the internet, it's not everyone who will be able to learn it no matter how much they try, it doesnt matter if you're smart af when you have depression, anxiety, adhd, autism, and other disorders like that, these stuff can stop even the most capable person on their tracks, so basically saying that people are "lazy" and thats why they're in the situation they're in is kinda absurd.
it's not easy to make your life better when you live in constant financial insecurity, when all of a sudden you can go from having an ok life to being a hobo because you were fired. It's not a matter of laziness, but much more about having the mental fortitude and resilience to make strides that a a lot of the ppl who are on the top would never be capable to do.
in short, yeah, it's possible for ppl to change their lives and they have more tools through technology, but the financial conditions of the world currently, creates a such a complex situation for most ppl, that even though the internet is an amazing tool that can change your life (asmongold is actually a good example of that), for most people, the situation they're in, financially and emotionally is so bad (both things worsen one another btw), that the great tool called internet is basically useless to them.

The best friend I ever had, who died of covid last year, was someone I met in an MMO. I had only met him once in real life, yet we talked daily for years. Close to two decades ago, this was the norm. It was not uncommon for people to get married after meeting in video games, though it was sensualized. You made friends, REAL FRIENDS, online through the communities you made on the joint servers, like TeamSpeak, you shared. Now a lot of streamers try to cultivate that same sense of community, but, and this is key, it is based on monetary gain and not a place for authentic, lasting relationships to be made. There is no fault or judgment here, but I miss the days when a server you were on would celebrate and mourn with you as an individual and community instead of telling members to find somewhere else to do it.

A big part of it isn't that videogames are bad or evil in any manner, it's the things you could or should be doing instead in their place. Imagine where you could be if you spent two hours a night for the last 10 years working on something to better yourself, a skill, hobby, interacting with others bettering your social abilities. Video games are just fine, they're fun, you can learn a thing or two from them, you can get some small amount of social interaction, but most of us use them to fill a hole of some kind. We are the only ones that can put reasonable limits on how much time we spend, but it turns out they are so much fun that can it be a very hard thing to do.

Asmon,i think an anime about Frieren touched that "boredom subject" where you seek for constant entertainment and TL;DR: it stems from more philosophical point of view towards Eternity itself and how each of us perceive the passage of time wanting to do stuff, enjoy life whenever possible, learn and work where in a being(Frieren) that lived for thousand+ years perceives time as meaningless and can stay in one place doing one thing for years
So those surrogates arent necessarily evil by themselves, its whether someone strives towards destructive ideology or not, thats the evil part

The issue about shootings isn't that there are more of them. Every statistic and study shows that violent crime has gone down, especially since the onset of video games. It is suggested that perhaps video games provide an outlet for violent tendencies.
The issue and reason why violence and shootings appear to be getting worse is that the media hyperreport on it every time and often skew and/or omit things to make them seem worse. 20, 30, or 40 years ago there was more violence, but you usually didn't hear about it unless it happened in your area or was a major conflict/event.

His explanation is solid, but his interpretation is entirely subjected to an utilitarian POV where everything needs to have a justifiable reason and outcome, things can't "exist" just for the sake of "existing" (which is the whole nature of the universe) he's trying to give a quantifiable value to completely subjective things, appreciation of a rose comes from being "a rose" not because it holds any other meaning, sure you can rationalize why it's beautiful and what cultural context and meaning people have given to it, but it's still just a plant.

In the games that didnt had an auctionhouse, i had to learn how to sell my products and how to find the channels on where to sell them, and how to sell my products. From WOW raids you learn how to coordinate yourself with multiple people (an example here would be if you work in team to acomplysh the requierd goal). When i started to work at a store, i applied what i learned in WOW and the sales have grown up.

That plus the delusional "do whatever feels good to you" nihilism is his entire thing, predicated on some weird arbitrary libertarian "as long as it doesn't hurt anyone". His relativistic thought process is self-refuting, the only question you have to pose is "is it objectively true that objective truth doesn't exist"?
