- Playstations historical flop Concord is rumored to be returning, but I don't believe it's a question of if, but rather a question of when and how. Joining the trio of Ubisoft and Bethesda, I think it's worth keeping a close eye on them and what they plan to do.

@@DogeickBateman It would be both formulaic, nevertheless still likely to blame a DEI curse. But to be a little more sure, some insider should first spill the beans on who's in charge of these decisions currently. And what shifts there were on those positions.
Of course it's coming back, it was basically obvious from the start. No corpo after sinking this kind of money will just take a total L willingly and let it go. If the business model allows for it they will scrap what they can. The most they could do is to just make another game based on the backbone of it. They will likely just try to attend to the things people complained the most. The actual question here is what lessons they learned from this failure. This in itself will be interesting to find out.
They won't fix the character designs, I'm almost certain. The designers are just too proud to admit that they have no taste and that virtue signaling with ugliness doesn't work.

Ironically the "best" modes in concord were the counter strike inspired ones, it's just no one played them as they had to be unlocked. It actually would have a better chance as a valorant alternative(although that ship has sailed, now valorant is on consoles).
Re-releases will continue until sales improve.

Said it before, and Ill say it again: Release it f2p, rework the character models for some male/female fan service, and at the very least, people will try it.

In order for Concord to be successful youd need a complete redesign of all characters and maps. Create single player content that gives you those weekly lore and cutscenes as a reward along with actual in game rewards. Better writing for said character redesigns. Change from weekly to monthly themes. Free to Play.
And even then. You have a 30% chance at best of making it in the market.

Investing more time and money into a game that already flopped monumentally doesn't seem like the best move. Just for laughs, I really am hoping it gets a chance to flop again though.

I feel like the sunk cost fallacy has a breaking point. I don’t think the sunk cost fallacy applies when you’ve already sunk $400 million in to a game unless you’re sinking another $100+ million in to it. That’s just too much money to apply the sunk cost fallacy to. You absolutely have to try to recoup some of that, even at the potential cost of losing millions more.

There was a time in which I'd have said that maybe the re-releasing on itself, after it was such a spectacular and well publicized disaster, would have brought players through morbid curiosity alone. But then Morbius happened, and it taught me that I know nothing.
This isn’t surprising. The fools who greenlit the project and pumped enormous sums of money into it are the same fools who think it can somehow be salvaged. This is why good business leaders fire employees who don’t/can’t/won’t learn from their mistakes.

Step 1 to make money: Have common sense and don't expect people (which for clarification will be around 90% young men) to buy skins for visually unappealing or downright ugly characters. That doesn't even have to do anything with diversity - People won't spend money on ugly characters xD.
Honestly just sounds like they made the character ugly on purpose for the purpose of selling skins to make them look better. You know, actively make the game worse so they can sell you the solution?
It clearly didn't work, but would be funny if that was the idea behind it.

They SHOULD try using the technical infrastructure to make another game with a different name and actually appealing characters. Then release the game and apologize about misreading the market.
Everybody jumped on the hate train with the character design. TH-camrs were eating good that month with all the drama. While it's true, I rarely saw anyone talk about how bland the actual gameplay is. And how the characters abilities just don't mesh well with each other or how the maps are designed.
They made blanket statements about not wanting "another" hero shooter. Even though many that I watched barely if at all play team based shooters in the first place. Anyway though, hopefully they make the game feel fun to play.
Something about the movement and way weapons fired did not feel good at all. Half the guns in the game were useless and you couldn't hold your own against the rest of the cast. It was worse because while people compared it to Overwatch, the abilities that characters have made it feel more like Valorant. Which is an awful idea for a game where players have so much health and the guns are bad. Because Valorant skills are more akin to utility to give yourself an edge in one particular moment. A flashbang, smoke screen, a wall, area denial. The guns are still the primary means of playing.
Overwatch you sorta deathball with your team. Tanks are constantly being healed, abilities are a constant use, and you are all together. Concord felt like a big team deathmatch with no cohesion and since the guns suck and your skills aren't designed to really help you individually, the whole thing just felt awful.
What sort of microtransactions are even viable for this thing? The characters are ugly and boring, and the alternate skins that could be unlocked with the base game were no better. No one's going to be like, "Oh man I gotta buy the battle pass to get that skin for a character I can only play once per match!" Anyways for some reason I'm reminded of the fact that Fortnite started out as a completely different type of game.

If they turned this into a 5 team PVE horde shooter, like what Overwatch 2 claimed it was always going to do and failed to accomplish, it might have a shot. But they need to market it perfectly and exploit the fact that there is a hungering for other game modes besides “generic PvP hero shooter” if they are going to keep the same premise and just make it free to play it won’t matter. There’s no reason to play this over Overwatch or D2, despite the fact that those games are arguably declining in popularity they’re still well established.
They’ll definitely do something with the game’s skeleton.
I don't understand how they expect to recoup even the extra money they're spending to relaunch the game... but I guess they're still in denial and would rather keep hopes up instead of just giving up and taking the loss.
It's just damage control at this point. This project have no hope of it being profitable.
For it to actually have an audience you'd need to change much of the gameplay, redo the maps, make a complete overhaul of the game's art and character designs. There's no way sony is putting in another 100 million to make it work.
Also sony increasing the price of its consoles and controllers was already cleverly nicknamed as the "concord tax". There's no hope of them changing the awful perception this game have.
The arrogance and hubris of bringing Concord back is staggering. Zero shame.

They shuld have done this format or genre of game but with an IP Sony already had (Last of Us, That one with the guy in the motorcycle, Death nation, Socom, Resistance, ETC. and time to time have gests like Dredd, Warhammer, Marvel, Anime as Sony owns Aniplex and Crunchyroll)... its like they do not know how to appeal to people.

NGL i bet they paid way more then 400m on concord the timing of concord along with the PS Pro is a very strangely timed coincidence. They thought concord would be their star wars so there's no way it was released to make back a profit, rather it is very very likely they made concord versions of the PS Pro that are now probably just sitting there rotting in a warehouse.
Doesn't matter what they do, Concord is a dead brand altogether. We are all sick of these kinds of games that aren't made for actual gamers who play it. If they release Concord again, people already know how bad it flopped, and we can all just boycott it to ensure it never comes back. Make it clear to game companies that this kind of shit does not sell, and we do not want to play games that are just ego trips of the fringe groups that have infected our once favorite game companies.
Honestly when it was first revealed i thought it looked good, but the marketing after that made me forget it until it released, then it got all the bad publicity.
So im curious if they decide to re-released it with better marketing if itd actually get some more attention.

I mean, blizzard execs threw away 5 years of development on pve combat. I do think execs will axe a thing if they think its not gonna make them a huge return.
That said, i think the guy who said theyll bring this back when the animated episode comes out is onto something.
at the bare minimum they have to completely redesign the characters and remove the pronouns. they will have to eat the cost of tossing out the shitty anime they wanted to release. i think the maps and combat are probably fine.

To be fair, Overwatch was the repurposed corpse of Blizzard's failed next MMO, was it not? But I don't see Concord rise from the ashes like that. The main thing they would need to change is the design and I don't think they will. The problem is that concord actually released and flopped hard. It's not like cyberpunk or No man's sky where the release was bad but the product was something people want. Nobody wanted concord.
Sony is already charging overpriced PS5 Pro and a price hike for Horizon Zero Dawn remaster no one asked for. Sony just let it go bruh

I hope they don't make any of that money back. Think about all the nearly complete games out there. The ones with functioning builds, great gameplay, that could literally run on a computer, completely free of the cloud server hellscape, that *don't* get to see the light of day despite having every quality imaginable over Concord. I hope they reap NO benefit off of it. Of the games that have been shut down forever, or the games that were nearly complete, or for all the now dead franchises that were developed and killed off for whatever stupid reason, if *this* game with no redeeming quality gets a 2nd chance where so many other well more deserving games didn't, I'm quite frankly done.
You shouldn't be allowed to fuck up this bad and keep going because Sony's bought into the sunk cost fallacy, it should stay buried. If amazing games, franchises, stories, concepts etc. have to sit in a purgatory of cancellations and ended service, this crap stain should too.

The Finals actually is cross platform as well! So you get the entire pool of players. It isn't my type of game but I was able to play with my nephew who doesn't have a pc
It could work, but devs would have to eat a lot of humble pie.
Firstly, change all the character designs, they suck.
Two, forget about the story(only bring it back if gets a bit popular).
Third, pick a game mode and concentrate on that. Don't have six. Have all the characters balanced to that one mode.
Fourth, speed up movement.

Even if they re-release for free, it'll have a boost in player count, likely double, but it'll fall right back into obscurity without some radical shift in just about every aspect of the game.
I'm actually thinking Sony's gonna wait until the Amazon "Secret Level" episode before re-releasing. They hope to all hell that the episode is so good it ignites people's desire to play the game. Happened with Last of Us and Fallout, so it should do it again... right? See, Sony... the issue is, it might bring more players, but if it's Free to Play, and it's still the same boring game you released with the same ugly characters... nobody will buy anything to make money...
