Amazing! Back in the day I managed to catch Planxty, the Chieftains, Moving Hearts and De Danaan a number of times, but never saw The Bothy Band. Really looking forward to seeing them in Dublin come April. Age doesn't seem to make a difference when it comes to playing this music, a point made clear to me when watching the 2004 Planxty reunion gig in Vicar St. If anything, it was better than I remember them from the first time round, which itself was magic.
I saw them live at The Boys O' Ballysodare music festival in 1979. Nobody knew at the time it would be their last concert. Planxty 'n Clannad also headlined. Freddie White put on a most memorable performance as did so many others. 'Twas a great weekend o' music 'n festivities for a California lad in Ireland.
Thanks so much for posting this, such amazing musicians! My partner and I were so looking forward to seeing them and both came down with Covid two days before. Heartbreaking to miss the concert but will keep an eye out for more clips. Thanks again!
I'd say it's the set list. We were due to fly on the same Dublin - Glasgow flight on Sunday which was cancelled due to a fierce storm. The 10 am Monday flight was delayed until 2pm and didn't reach Glasgow until almost 3:15 or so. They missed out on rehearsal and planning, but managed sound check and whatever. We're all safely back in Dublin now on a fairly exciting Aer Lingus Regional flight this evening. I hope this helps! Phenomenal night btw!
Wow , I had searched for years a good Irish Band , this is it , Love traditional Irish music 💓
Absolute tears of joy. Thank the gods that all these magicians are still with us and still playing. And, as always, RIP Micheal and Tommy.
In my view, the best Irish band of any genre of music in my lifetime. I saw thenm in Galway about 1976.
My life is complete. I played them endlessly through studying for my finals in 1987.
They prove wrong the phrase "Too old to rock" Amazing and very powerful performance !!!

This is ace
Irish reincarnation at its best.
No Clancy, No Rovers, No Planxty, No Chieftains. There is only The Bothy Band.
I love Frankie Gavin and the De Danann too.

Good one Neil.
You going to the cruinniu na bhfluit this year?
Thanks. Decided to go to Scoil Willie this year - unfortunately only so many holiday days I can use for fluting!

They surely do not need music scores in front of them!!
