That's an amazing first car very happy for him and your family on all success! I will say as a first car, I think everyone should drive something really, well humbling, until they are able to buy the upgrade themselves as it builds character and self worth, but seeing as how he's had a big contribution to the channel and it's his birthday, I think there isn't anything wrong with a Model Y as a first car. Hahaha I’m a model 3 owner. You have 2 options to never use that card key again. Connect to your phone (which I use) and then you can also use that $100 Tesla credit you have to buy an actual key fob. The card is a back up and you don’t get the dinging with the other options.
Phone works well enough, until you leave your phone in the car and it locks, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Man I wish I could get a Tesla as my first car. I'm probably just gonna get my dad's old pickup. I'm a huge car guy and Teslas are some of my favorites. I hope Lincoln loves and enjoys his car. He's a great person and he deserves it!

I had the key card beeping situation while picking up as well, once the phone key is fully setup though I’ve never used the key cards since. So no you don’t need to use the key card every time you drive
When “not that expensive” is actually $55k. These kids will never know struggle or humility. This family is seriously considering rebuilding their GIANT house because someone is going to block their view? They knew that when they bought the lot. This family is the definition of excess.

@@Seattlesilver long story short i runaway when I was younger but I realize that hard work & dedication is key but when you are giving things for free, your subconsciously think oh I can get that for free from dad & mom. Lincoln also plays golf so he also has a country club membership I just see him doing good but his mind not so much.

I believe (don't own a model 3 or Y but I know things lol) that once a phone is set up to be the "key" for the car, it will automatically recognize the phone and the whole "tap your key" thing will no longer be a problem.

I’m so happy my parents let me choose what car I got as my first car. I chose a fully loaded 2021 Hyundai Veloster N with the DCT. I love this thing to death and I’ve never regretted my choice once! edit: spelling corrections

What a lucky guy! so happy for him, i just turned 17 and just bought myself a car brand new Mazda3 Hatch Turbo. Having a car at a young age is just an amazing feeling and its a tesla ANDD all he has to do is drive it hes gonna love it

The key card may be silly but using your phone as a key works much better in the 3 and Y compared to the older S and X!
Yeah I thought that as with phone key makes it so easy and much more secure. That is probably why Tesla does not make it as convenient with the key card as they want everyone using phone key
Lincoln sure is happy about his new car. He should cherish the privilege of being gifted a Tesla as his first car without having to break any sweat. Great parents. Take this from a guy who's also Lincoln's age but will have to earn for his own cars and still won't be able to afford driving school.

Regarding you folks buying a new home or something, you should take into consideration that your kids will be all moved out within 5-10 years right?

They couldn’t just not give their kids rooms for 5-10 years lol. They can just be guest rooms or whatever they please and at the end it’s worth more with the extra rooms if they sale

Dawg my mom bought me a random 2003 Elantra while I was in HS and crashed it 6 minutes into owning it (i still have it. I learned a lot about mechanic works when I fixed it up)
Personally I would not buy a new driver a NEW car. Statistically he will be in an accident in the first 2 years of driving. Even if you bought a Tesla for him, buy a used one.
How much is the insurance going to be? I would guess in excess of $2,000 every 6 months.

Woohoo, a Model Y! I find it interesting how so many people are choosing to go with the Model Y rather than the Model 3, I think I just find the Model 3 quite desirable because I've seen Tesla release it and make it continuously better since 2017. And to think that people were underwhelmed at the Model Y unveiling! If you want Dan, you could use your Tesla gift card to get a key fob, if Lincoln wants that. But on the other hand, using his phone will work great, with no beeping invoved. :)

Very happy for your family. Not a bad first car at all, but I can only Imagine having to be recorded, location shared, speedometer checked, etc when I was driving as a teenager. I am starting to feel very fortunate that my first car was a Honda Civic lmao.

I drove an A3 for ages until it fell apart. I think from 18ish to 30-31 i think. Bought it used for a decent price. Made it to more than 242000km.
You should surprise him by putting the car in a storage unit and telling him that you bought the storage unit and you want him to open it with you 😏😉

I worked at Little Caesar’s in high school and paid for my first car myself but if my parents had been kind enough to buy me one you damn well better believe I would have liked it and been thankful no matter what it had been.
@@dextertheragdollcat213 my first car was an ‘86 Corolla. It didn’t have a touch screen or leather seats or a glass roof. It definitely wasn’t as fast as a super car. It could barely get up to freeway speeds. But I loved that car because it gave me freedom and I was proud of it because I worked for it and paid for it myself.

With all teslas, I believe, you only receive the credit card key, and you are supposed to leave it on the center console when driving. But, the app makes it much easier and you can leave they key at home. You can also buy the fob.

7:45 that’s the best thing I have that in BMW X6 but for some reason it won’t work as it should be. Yes it work sometimes. But I can’t understand how big pressure I need to make for it to work.
The dinging can be fixed by unbuckling and rebuckling. It’s not the car wanting the key. It’s some sensor or something with the buckle.

What an incredibly lucky and blessed young man, when I turned 16 in 1993, I got 30 DOLLARS PER WEEK allowance, and had to take public transportation in New York to move around everywhere. Getting a car was not even in my dreams.
Tesla is a great first car. Very easy to drive, many safety assistance and top safety rating. One peddle driving is also a huge benefit for beginners, at least it was for me. The fact that it breaks as soon as you let of the car gives you an extra sense of control and can help with delayed break reaction.
I love the thought of never driving an electric car :) Enjoying the beautiful engine sounds and not having to worry about charging:D

Lincoln is very blessed. All the cars I have drove in my lifetime which is like 4 cars costs less than this tesla so he is very lucky and I am happy for him.

It is important to note that Tesla Model 3/Y hold their value INCREDIBLY WELL. So really the overall cost off ownership is less than a new Accord/Camry when factoring in maintainence, etc.

I’m watching this in a blue on black Model Y with 20s.
Note, matte black finish has always been standard on the Y. Model 3 it wasn’t. Who cares though. Looks dope and Lincoln deserves it. He’s put in his work. Congrats Lincoln and welcome to the Tesla family! Well, kind of haha.
From the ‘21 model year and newer the matte black trim is standard on the model 3, at least that’s the case here in Australia and I’d assume it would be in the US
