They say it's Terrible to fool you while they hoard and buy it up. It's now the most expensive scarlet and violet set. Reaching almost $200/box
The "investor community" have totally lost sight of what makes Pokémon investable to begin with, you see so many videos going on about how the market will crash if they do reprints of sets still in rotation and won't somebody please think of my booster boxes in my bedroom closet.....the players and collectors are what makes this work as an investment LONG TERM. Wanting them to not reprint during the games rotation period is absolutely nuts to me. Players need to be able to access the cards to play and collectors need to be able to chase the collectables then your little stash of boxes will go up over time. This idea of expecting standard legal boxes to appreciate in months is just unbelievably short sighted.

The greninja will remain expensive for the sheer fact of how hard it is to pull …. It’s better to pay $800 for a psa 10 copy than open $2000 worth of packs and not pull anything
Why is every talking up Twilight Masquerade like it's not the most recent set? Obviously, it's going to be more popular based solely on circumstances. No one is going to have this opinion a year from now, I pretty much guarantee it.

@krisv1038 I never thought it was a bad set. I love Greninja and I played the DLC, so I have an appreciation for Ogerpon, but I also dont think its "one of the best sets". I just know how Pokémon operates, and they're going to print another one, especially since Greninja is competitive, and even more especially because Pokemon sees how popular the SIR has become. This is a middle of the road set. A lot of the current interest is being carried by the competitive side, and that'll really show next year when all the hyped up year 3 sets are factored in.
I was in pokerevs comment section when people were saying it was going to be a bad set, I told them they were biased towards the masks, but there were cards good in competitive coming, really good illustration rares, fantastic Sirs with carmine and perrin and of course a dope ass greninja which people I guess forget is super beloved and more than enough to carry this set. Low and behold over a month later and the haters were wrong OFC! 😂

I agree people need to relax when it comes to looking so far ahead for the “next best thing”. But I actually believe picking sets is not only viable but more profitable than investing an equal amount of money into each set. While you may miss out on the occasional high end set you’ll probably hit most of them. On top of that (and arguably more important) is the idea that you are not investing ANY money into all the lower end sets that don’t move much for years and years. In other words none of your money is dead money. Whereas if you invest in every set, a good majority of your money is (relatively) dead.
Should I wait for a reprint to pick up a case or two?
No one knows if this will get a reprint. Buy at a price point you're comfortable with but you're gonna be sitting on it for years, so make that decision carefully.
Same thing will happen with Stellar Crown. One kid at school pulls the SIR Terapagos and everyone and their brother will be asking Mom for cards
It was trashed by many so I was able to pick up several booster boxes for $85 each shipped with taxes. Pokemon always pays off in long run. Even trash sets.
Am I missing something?? Yesterday, I just went to my local card shop and they had like 30 of these big booster boxes for $110 each. The online Pokemon shop has this booster for $161. And finally TCGPlayer has these boxes for $110.

Stores have them but distributors are either sold out or on very low limit orders because they are running low. Also the stores who price them high are in stock sure but the stores who list at $95 $100 all mostly all sold out.
It's almost like saying well there are stores that have XY booster boxes available so they arnt sold out lol

I was one of the people who thought TM was a mid tier set and to be fair I still think it is. It's doing well but that doesn't change my mind on set. I disagree that we can't look at a set before hand and make assumptions. I would argue sv heating up because of hit rates which means higher card values. I believe if pull rates stay the same the last half of SV does even better . I would be willing to bet one of the next 3 main sets will be huge for sv and bigger eventually then PE or TM.
The Perrin and carmine SIR are two of the most beautiful card art I have ever seen

How can a set with a crazy greninja chase along with a bunch of waifu cards and an eevee and Chaney character rares be worse than a set whose most popular cards are just new forms of the legendary dogs and a card with a Gengar in the art but isn’t even a Gengar card lol. Not to mention the chase ain’t even the same cost 🤷♂️
@@didjen181 I am not judging the set based on prices. Just on what I like about the sets. I’ve opened both sets and that’s just my opinion. The SIRs as a whole are better than the SIRs from Twilight. Terra Greninja is overrated.

Twilight Masquerade is awesome, but the next set Shrouded Fable is absolutely horrible. The artwork is so bad, nothing stands out, and there is so much black and pink colors.

@@thomasbower4811 Ya no problem. I usually pick up between 4 to 10 cases usually of each set depending on the price i can get them for and how well i think they will do.
I typically just get 1 or 2 booster boxes of each set, but saw a great deal on a sealed case and pulled the trigger.
You are right everyone trashed this set, and I started thinking maybe I shouldn’t have bought a case. Glad I did now!

Totally agree. At first I thought this set was mediocre. I still bought a couple cases to hold because it’s what I do. Now I’m hooked on finding that greninja 😂. That card 100% grew on me. Glad I have a few cases sealed for the long term though.
I pulled the greninja in plano tx from card, collectibles and games. From a blister
Than went home, bought a booster box. And pulled THE carmine.
Tons of other pulls like iron thorns, growlithe, etc.
I really want that eevee card.
I opened so many blisters and packs. I gave up and bought a 40 dollar psa 10 japanese eevee.
I didnt want to bid for a psa 10 or near mint english eevee. I just wanted the card.

I don't know... Pretty much everywhere I go (and I go to a lot of places looking for Pokémon cards often) I see full shelves of twilight masquerade ETBs and booster boxes.
I hear you but also this is the first set in SV that i cant find anywhere for under $600 a case this fast after release. It does seem to be drying up faster and rising in price faster than any other set. Also, we havent seen a single card reach the mid $200s raw in SV era and hold like the greninja. Something to think about is all i am saying.
@NostalgiaNomics I have a feeling shrouded fable's greninja will devalue the twilight masquerade greninja. I think it's a better looking card and will be more readily available. At least for those who pre-order.

Was lucky enough to be in Tokyo when the Japanese set was released, bought a couple of booster boxes to preview it and I enjoyed it. I still really love the Tatsugiri card in it. It's a fun set to rip.
I'm still bearish on TM - if I miss out on this one - so be it. I'll let everyone else have their fun.

This is bait. With an incoming Eeveelutions set and a team rocket set you're better off saving your money for eevee heroes 2.0 and Evolving skies 2.0 when the set releases. Then we're getting a team rocket japanese and english
Very similar to Paldean fates, 4-5 strong cards up front. Not a huge fan of the ogerpons, but they look original and new. Still think Paldea Evolved is the best Scarlet and Violet set with 151.

Invest in the newest set? That’s not wise because they always drop as soon as the next set or the set afterwards comes. Everyone says ohh but it’s, “short print.” Yea I’ve been back in the collecting game for not very long and I’ve heard this too often and then they print more.

The one constant that stayed true is people didnt like the mask cards. And they still dont l.
The difference is that the greninja pull rate is close to alt arts. That hemp swung the set.

@MieXuL Ya that's not a bad. Usually I look for somewhere between 500 to 550 on the open market but it doesn't always get that low. Anything 600 or under is still a good entry point

I will admit it. I did not like this set. I’m a fan now and it’s not just because of greninja either.
I didn't thrash it at all. It's not because all of you TH-camrs thrashed it that we all think like you! I legit thought to myself its not as bad as they make it seems to be. Just like I believe many of the underdogs in sword and shield is great like Battle styles I always liked that set.

I honestly don’t understand this set. I admit I thought it would do horrible. I still don’t know why everyone likes it. I don’t get it. I think the greninja art looks like someone stepped on a tube of toothpaste and it came squirting out. The masks are boring art to me. The bear card is also boring. But this is all just proof that like you say I can’t get it all right with set picking. People like what they like and I won’t always understand it. I can understand the Eevee card, Carmine, the growlithe trainer pair cards. So it’s not like all cards look awful to me but I don’t know what so many people are hard chasing in this set. But they are. So I have to adapt to the market even if I don’t understand.

Masquerade is not a good set. The Pokémon community right now is so desperate for something to chase that they have latched onto the Greninja. Nothing worthy of mention has come out of the SV era main sets so far. 18 months from now when Dragon set is out, the Team Rocket set is out the tera eeveelutions set is out, and we all look back at the uncontested amazing alt arts from the swsh and S&M era, we will look back at masquerade and say, yep thats a mediocre set.
I already got 25 boxes of twm. Id say i got lucky.

I'm just going to say Greninja has to be one of the most overrated pokemon of all time, aside from maybe Lucario. And don't get me started on those grotesque, tacky looking tera hats. The hard part of investing in this stuff is that I can't invest based on my own superior taste, but instead I have to put myself into the minds of the unwashed masses.

I'm happy I got a case of twilight for 545€ in Europe it's pretty difficult to get cases below 570€ or even below 600€
I was saying from the beginning that I think it's the second best set so far, Greninja is popular and the card looks amazing and especially the IRs are incredible in the set, just compare the values of the regular IRs from twilight to temporal is mind blowing, TWM has so much value in it, combined with amazing looking cards, many popular pokemon (Greninja, Growlithe, Infernape, Eevee etc.), a slightly lower printrun and really hard pull rates I couldn't believe how negative people where on this set.
I don't like the masks too, but the rest of the set is really good
