- It's funny how most cadeaux there unintentionally is a theme in the gifts that we open. In this one it must be 'everything for a perfect barbecue - including tablewares!'
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. TH-cam earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634
August 2020:
Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350
September 2020:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255
October 2020:
Medecins sans Frontieres (chosen by my mother to support vaccinations in Africa) €942 (equivalent to 426 cholera vaccinations)
November & December 2020 & Jan & Feb 2021:
A Lalande Fashion Scholarship for a student at the Villioti Fashion Institute in South Africa €5500

I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching @The Chateau Diaries gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us, and that by monetising this channel for charity we can pass on that joy to others 💖💖💖

In Canada as children in the seventies we used those Purple Crown Royal bags to hold our marbles.Those copper mugs are for Moscow Mules cocktails and the many variables. Great gifts Claudia!

I live in the U.S. and we used those bags for marbles too….but my mother wouldn’t let us take those to school 😊

So happy for the charity donation. Children are our future and need all the love they can get. Beautiful lavish gifts. I am very fond of all of the porcelain. By now you may notice I am binging all of the shows I missed and truly loving all of them. It was a very rainy and windy day here today and whilst I was making my morning coffee I saw though my window a huge blue heron on the peak of my neighbours house with his head tucked under his wing. I at first was worried as it wasn't moving but after a long time looking very much like a weather vane he flew gracefully away. There are no fish ponds near us but we do have a small stream. As he flew away I named him "Hector the wise". It is incredible that here we are isolated due to covid and all around us we have mini national geographic visits from creaters of the wild. We have 2 hummingbirds who survived the frost named Pip and Peep, a lovely couple. We have 3 squirrels a black one named black. A grey one named Max and a brown one named Blanche, they have been with us for 8 years now. Sorry Phillip, no hedgehog yet however 2 years ago we had a baby scunk in our back yard. We tried to rescue it but saw it was able to catch up with his mom. We called the skunk peppy la pew! ? Spelling. Thank you all for the blogs. Do say hello to Thor and family from Peter and Pat in Surrey British, Columbia, Canada. We have a huge flock of peacocks here that bother some neighbours but they don't live that close to me. Oh and Phillip you are to be commended for the hedgehog rescue. So happy you all did that. Lucky was very lucky and very cute. Can't wait to get all of my little bunnies out for Easter. I still have to take down the Christmas decorations though. I think by now you are still in south Africa and I know you are making the most of your visit with your mom and Percy.
Every week the gifts are so unique and beautiful! I am very please with your April recipient…what a wonderful organization! Those products from Texas are FABULOUS and I know everyone there is going to enjoy them! I use them all the time. Michael, please come back to the chateau more often and stay longer…we miss seeing you and that bread oven needs firing up! 🥖🥂🦔🥰🇫🇷

The packing/compression cubes are great for travelling. You end up being able to fit more things into your suitcase, or enable you to pack a smaller bag. Helps keep clothing organised and categorised, plus, it means that you can open your bag in public and not have underwear etc spill out. Thanks to 3-4 packing cubes I could travel through Thailand for 3 weeks with only a handcarry sized case. Also great in drawers etc to store aside items for a different season

I'm a native, 6th generation Texan and seeing that huge box gave me such joy! It reminded me of several other things that are Texas originals to send your way!
Lovely stephanie that's a very worthwhile charity , in ireland it's called make a wish foundation and my friends very sick boy has had so much wonderful joy from the gifts he has received one including meeting the liverpool football team getting signed Jersey ect ,, wonderful cause 🥰💕

Wonderful news about your contribution this month. The gifts are so thoughtful and so deserving. Everyone at the Chateau seems to be such happy people, it is such a joy to get the time to visit in your daily lives, the ladies are all beautiful and the guys are so handsome! The bunny cards just made the table, perfect! I love everyone at the Chateau, such a great bunch of guys and gals!
The pool goes on top of a table. It is inflated and filled with ice, and then you can put your drinks and bowls of pasta salads or cut up fruit that need to be kept cool. What a great unboxing!

Stella‘s gifts are just amazing - and to be sent from so far away. Wonderful. Also the place cards (Heidi?) - hand-painted and super cute. Absolutely loved everything again - and despite being a spoilt only child who has trouble sharing, watching you all unwrap gifts for yourselves is such huge fun and makes me feel warm inside. Not least because then I know the proceeds from this channel go to a charity. Fantastic result for April; beautiful choice of a charity. Can‘t wait to see the next gift-unwrapping seis!

I used to pronounce pecans like you growing up in Iowa/Illinois (the Midwest), but when I moved to Texas and was quickly corrected. I think many people of all ages love the older vintage items. They are coming back. There quality can't be matched now days.

The black bean and corn salsa is known as "Cowboy Caviar", it's my favorite.
The copper cups are for a drink called Moscow Mules- an American cocktail!
True!! I think I heard that the copper cups hold the cold and also make the drink taste better than if served in glass.

Here on Whidbey Island in beautiful Washington state we use the copper cups for a Dark And Stormy. Spiced rum, ginger beer and squeeze of lime. Batten down the hatches and make some cocktails to ride out the storm!
Or, for just healthier drinking of anything, the copper is good for our bodies. Most of us are deficient although testing is complicated
N.B. Crown Royal is a Canadian whiskey.

Dear Stephanie, It just dawned on me that Lalande is having a *renaissance* of its own, no less vibrant or vital than the original in Italy. Perhaps, you'll look back to the first month that you were in the black and able to realize the full potential of the estate, commemorate it officially with a celebration fitting of a renaissance moment. Your legal heirs, if you never sell, will open their eyes to something even better than the original.
I hope the extra children's book will be given to gardner dans children.

I keep hearing you talking about your wool during your shows. It would be quite the fun thing for people to be able to buy yarn made from that wool. I know in England they still have a few places that take local and often heritage breed cheap wall and turn it into glorious yarns. Imagine people being able to order your yarn from all over the world taking part of your chateau with them wherever they go.
Stephanie, you are so gracefully and generous with you complements. I loved the beauty place cards, and the laughter and pure joy of everyone as the gifts are shared delights my Heart! Oh, the inflatable bar can be inflated and filled with ice and set on a table to hold drinks or salad and food the need to stay cool . Great for a buffet at your BBQ!

Wow Tracey Emin has done some great designs for banjo & Matilda, they aren’t cheap but they are very unique, what a generous person who gave you that cashmere cardigan, there’s one that’s says ‘she went out like a 40 watt bulb’

The copper glasses are mostly used for a drink called a Moscow Mule. 2 parts vodka. 4 parts ginger beer. Lime and mint to garnish.

@chateaudiaries I wonder if you would consider laminating those gorgeous table cards...Having those clear labels are great so you can rename them, but I wonder what happens if a bit of tomato sauce or red wine gets on them...maybe the laminating could preserve them for longer (if they could still be folded...hmmm). Just a thought-they are so beautiful!! And the amount of time she spend on each card...so precious!!!
yes! another idea is to tent them all out on a large drop-cloth or tarp and spray them lightly 2-3 times/passes with an acrylic spray sealer used for card-stock.
Perhaps easier than laminating. The trick is having a light touch and waiting until dry, prior each pass.
Avoid saturation &/or dripping.
As always, do a 'test' one or two for practice, before proceeding to all.
My goodness she has hundreds of those place-cards!! And to think, each was hand done! Clearly a labor of love.

Cooper cups/glasses were originally for Moscow Mules...but in last few years, the copper color (& pink gold) have become quite popular in USA & could really be used for any cocktail or wine.

Loved the vlog as usual the gifts are wonderful. Loved the choice of charity to fulfil the dreams of children. It would take many pages to write about how I enjoy watching each vlog but so many people have done this better than I could have done.
Regarding the Magnolia cookbook author Joanna Gaines, Joanna and Chip Gaines and family live in Waco Texas. Chip is a builder/restorer of houses in Waco and occasionally areas close by for clients. Joanna designs the internal layout of homes and stages the home with new and recycled furniture and commissions special furniture items from their carpenter friend, who now has his own workshop and retail outlet. Joanna and Chip now own several businesses, a TV programme series on HGTV called 'Fixer Upper' (which I have watched) and also have their own Magnolia TV network (which I cannot access). They have a retail shop in Waco and online shopping. Their products and books they have written are available on their website and Amazon
