I just ordered the thermarest pillow for my wife for Christmas literally 10 minutes ago from backcountry. She's a car camper only so she'll love it. You and I have a lot in common with pillows!!!

That's awesome - it's such a comfy pillow! I hope she loves it!

Good video! A little tip I’ll share is when using an inflatable pillow, put an extra t -shirt from your pack over it like a pillowcase. This seems to cut back significantly on the sloshie/slushie whateverness you described. Lol.I use the sea to summit aeros ultralight.

Love that tip!! Thank you for the idea!

Nice comparison of pros and cons. For me weight isn’t as much of an issue as comfort. I have trouble sleeping as is, so I don’t compromise with subpar pillows. I chose the Nemo Fillo Luxury.

Great round-up of these pillows. I own the Nemo Fillo pillow that you reviewed, but I also own a smaller version made by Nemo called the Fillo Elite Ultralight pillow. It packs down noticeably smaller, and weighs 2/3 of the full size. It's a little less wide, but I find it just as comfortable. That's the one I brought with me on the John Muir Trail this summer, and it was one of the pieces of gear I had no second guesses about.

Awesome!! I'll have to check that out because I do really like the Nemo pillow!

I have the small sized thermarest pillow. I love it for hammocking!

We have the XL Thermarest for car camping and love them! Wish they had a separate pillow case though, so we just through on a regular pillow one for now.

If you go for the Nemo Fillo Luxury pillow it has a bungee on the back that you can unthread from the crisscross pattern and just thread through the outside loops and the bungee then can be used to hold the pillow to your sleeping pad. It is among the heavier backpacking pillows but it is the most comfortable I’ve found relative to it’s packed size which is manageable.

I've just ordered the Nemo Fillo Luxury on sale for less than £20 (probably because the 2020 version is out now) and I was just thinking about whether the cord could be used to attach it to a sleeping pad. Thanks for confirming!

I also use the klymit pillow X large in frequently. Got it on sale and it's a tough sleep for a side sleeper but works amazing in a hammock!

The Klymit Pillow X is a NO GO for me. I tried to like it....the X in the middle just doesn't support my head at all. I do however have the Klymit Lux on the wishlist!

Wanna know an Army Reservists' opinion on what the best camping pillow is? Well, all I ended up taking on a bivouac is a very nice cotton pillowcase from home, and upon arriving at camp and setting up for sleep, I would stuff it with my folded jacket as a first layer and softer undergarments as a top layer where my head rests against - My idea caught on so well that the rest of the regiment began doing this, considering it has the added benefit of warming up your next day's clothing. The other big plus is that it only costs as much as a cotton pillowcase which folds down VERY small into your bergen.

I too like six throw pillows for my camping adventures. They for the most part stay in my gen2Deathstar by Winnebago. Why not just take them all?

I have the Trekology 2.0, used it once, and never will again. The Nemo Fillo is the sweet spot. As a side sleeper it has the height I want, and it feels enough like a normal pillow to not feel like a balloon. One tip though, I think trying to stuff sack it is a mistake. I always leave it flat and either put in the very bottom of my pack so it is compressed or align it vertical along the back of the pack as extra back padding. Either way, it takes up less space or serves a second function.

Great pillow vid however, growing up and camping in Arizona for 50 years Please! whoever is reading this NEVER! pitch a tent in a river bottom! I cannot tell you how many Kooks over the years die in flash floods.. River bottoms are very attractive but go to higher ground.

I just found your channel! AND I LOVE YOU! you are a fresh face I am enjoying your style and your editing is appreciated!!! can I request a vlog with your top Utah day hikes? I am visiting there this summer and would like some "must-see" hikes to consider for my planing.

Welcome!! I'm so happy you found me! Thank you for your comment on my editing. I've been working hard to get better at it. 🤗 I would love to make more Utah videos!! At the very least, I'm trying to get a lot of resources about Utah hiking up on my blog this winter. I just wrote a blog post about Arches National Park hikes that might be helpful! (amandaoutside.com). Are you planning to visit the national parks on your visit, or will be visiting Northern Utah near Salt Lake City?

I love my Thermarest pillow. It IS a luxury item but I’ve tried several other pillows, including the Sea to Summit Aeros, but like you said an air pillow is either too squishy or hard as a rock. As a side sleeper I need the loft of the Thermarest pillow to sleep comfortably so I throw mine in the bottom of my pack and put everything else on top and that works for me.

I will use a Loksak - Opsak for a pillow, it weights only 1oz, holds air very well, Defeats quick, will store my puffy in it and will cover it with my buff.
