      The mission based gameplay was also pretty cutting edge for it's time. It was one of the first games I played that actually had mission specific goals.

    This game is amazing ... I worked at Nintendo and was part of the bug squadron testing this game back in 98... Definitely the best of the series and a must play ... Love the story in the game and the controls while flying are beautiful. Definitely brings the Star Wars universe to life.

      I’ve reverently got an N64 and was wondering if you need an expansion pack to play this? And a memory pack to save?

    • @funkyflights
      @funkyflights 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al Benzies ... Yes you need the expansion pack, sharpens the graphics and makes it a much better experience....You don’t need a memory pack, the game will save internally... expansion pack is a must though ...

      kevinblack16 Remember the landspeeder levels? The first one took me a week to beat, because I couldn't get the hang of grappling the AT-AT's legs and circling around it multiple times.
      And I don't want to think about how I wound up breaking one of my controllers during the Kessel train level.

      i just started playing it for the first time. only on the 2nd level and keep failing the mission. i keep trying to kill all those bombers as quickly as possible, but apparently it's not fast enough. i'm playing on an emulator on my phone and it looks and plays great, but may be a little tougher because of the smaller screen.

    You have to beat Kotors multiple times to fully experience their greatness and that can take up to 25 to 30 hours at a time. Mark normally puts only a few hours into most of the games reviews just to get a good feel for what the game is about and to get game footage for the review.

    I must be the only one who likes Rebel Strike more than Rogue Leader. :(
    The original is my favorite game in the series and is my favorite game in general.
    Plus, aside from the RS trilogy, there are two spiritual successors. There's Star Wars: Battle for Naboo (N64), which brought space combat and ground vehicles to the series. Then there is Lair (PS3), it's not Star Wars but the same style of gameplay (it even has the flying Buick from the other RS games). That last one is insanely underrated.

But not to digress, this game was amazing for its time and of course Rogue Leader is one of my favs. So much replay value to get all Golds to unlock the etra levels and its is just straight up bad ass. I absolutely loved Rogue Squadron on N64
    Though I am really surprised that the review doesn't pick up on
    the best part of the original.
    Now in the following two games you are always having your team mates get in the way and steal kills you constantly have to dismiss them.
    Whereas the original it's a team score so if the someone in your wing bags a kill it's all good and this reflects better the camaraderie not only of the Rogues but also the Rebel Alliance.

    I thought Harrison's performance was kind of emotionless( compared to his amazing performance in empire at least), well then again Han was supposed to be dead in return so maybe that is why. Also I thought Vader was a really weak villain in return. It felt like he took a backseat to the emperor when he shouldn't have. He had his moments where he was awesome, but I thought he was MUCH better villain in star wars and empire. Also why wasn't lando in the movie that much.

  • @Darth234Ravenous
    @Darth234Ravenous 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should do a review of Battle for naboo for N64. It was sort of to rogue squadron what bioshock is to system shock. Well, not quite that good. It was made by factor 5 using the same engine, is less frustrating and even has missions that talk place in the space around naboo including the droid control ship battle, which was pretty impressive for the time. It also adds grounds vehicles which were fairly well done though not as fun as the flying vehicles.

    this game i could never put down because of how much fun i had with it, and the 3 unlockable levels, and how to unlock the naboo star fighter with nintendo power magazine, and also i lost count on how many times in this game ive traveled down the death star trench to destroy the death star itself, the comment about going through the level 500 times brought back memories on how many times i had to re do levels.

    Lol ^^_ But at least it wouldn't make any (greater) difference if you just clean it up properly (due to scratches and overall surface damage). I mean, his game could look -much- better if he would just spend like 1 minute of effort to wipe away all that nasty.... whatever it is. ^^_ (Golden Eye.. great game btw. =D )

    I love the rouge squadron games but they got nothing on kotor 1( why hasn't mark reviewed yet). It has a phenomenal story that matches the original trilogy, great game play, awesome characters, and it is really long. It takes thirty hours to beat the main campaign.

    The first game was 10x better then the Gamecube ones. The N64 game had its own story and characters and varied mission design. The gamecube games just threw in some lame escort missions over and over and then threw in some video footage from the movies, so there was no real story per say. It sucked.

    I have this for PC. This is good game but I´ll think Rebel strike is best of these three, about the movies I am not sure which is better Return of the Jedi or the Empire Strikes Back. And at new trilogy The Revenge of the Sith just trashes other two, no contest.
