I remember this game actually had a cool secret feature where you could turn on commentary by the game developers that would play during the levels. really unique for the time
Murky visuals? This is the most advanced graphically game released on N64, there is no question about it.
Shadows of the empire, SW: Rogue Squadron 1,2,3 and Battle for Naboo... seriously Nintendo consoles had all of the best SW games...those were true masterpieces. I even enjoyed the episode 1 Racing pod game...
falloutghoul1 I play it on this on the go or couch, still awesome! www.journaldugeek.com/files/2013/12/Archos_GamePad_2_InZeBox.jpg
Thank god for all the great emulators on android!
SoTE, Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo, Podracer, all came out for the PC as well. Though Rogue Squadron 2,3 were indeed missing sadly.
Let's not forget about the amazing Star Wars video games that were released for the SNES.
I loved these games when I was six, the memories are coming back. Thanks for the video.
Just FYI the final bonus mission of this game is you playing as Darth Maul, killing lots of Naboo people. Gungans too, I think. Also, there is a secret type of medal in the game, Platinum Medals. And you can earn all of them or use a password to unlock two new craft, including the Trade Federation AAT. So you could go rampage in that thing.
This game was so awesome ... it brings me so many memory’s ! Do you remember those block buster days lol
Mark's Jar Jar impersonation is hilarious!
As a PLANET I really like Naboo. Not only is it the first Star wars plant to make logical sense (Apart from Bespin interestingly enough).
It's got the most interesting biosphere (gungas excluded) and some great architecture and scenery.
You cannot go blowing up a planet just because Jar-Jar's on it. Almost, but not quite
***** Tatooine wasn't always a desert, it suffered somewhat of an environmental collapse and the oxygen in the air is latent from that.
Coruscant wasn't always a city, it's air is being artificially improved by designated factories designed fr the job that were built when industrialization was at it's peak.
The more you know eh?
I think it's great when you think the limitations for N64. I always liked how the graphs weren't "flickering" like psone. But usually games had lot's of fog due to memory lack. This game shows large worlds without any prerendition smoothly. Of course the graphs of the time wasn't too great but I still think there were great looking games.
I really have enjoyed all of Factor Five's games they have created when it comes to Star Wars. From the Original Rogue Squadron to its third installment. But Battle For Naboo? I actually really enjoyed the storyline surprisingly. Unlike Rogue Squadron where the storyline really didn't pick up until Kasan's arc was established, Battle For Naboo's story pretty much launches right from the first mission. Plus it was satisfying seeing Jar Jar getting Crushed by the N64 logo, I agree.
As for blowing up Naboo? Well... You kind of can do that with a secret mission in the game. You actually fly around as Darth Maul in an AU take of the final battle in his Sith Infiltrator and your mission is to protect the Federation's ground and air forces while you destroy any and all resistance as well as the populace in the game. Their structures, farms, etc. Plus you shoot down most if not all of the main characters of the main story. From Gavyin Sykes to Captain Kale. And yes if you look hard enough you can blow up Jar Jar with a missile/laser barrage.
I havent played this game in maybe over 10 years since the N64 era, and i think this was the hardest of the RS series games, keep in mind tho that i was a child at the time
Thank factor 5 for creating a game engine that was programmed in microcode. The game could also show up to 3000 particle effects without slowdown as well.
Personally, I loved Episode I and even found Jar Jar Binks rather amusing.
I heard there is a level for beating everything where you play as Darth Maul and fight against Naboo. Kind of like what they did with LEGO Star Wars, where you play as Darth Vader in a New Hope or the Revenge of the Sith game where Darth Vader kills Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Sideous.
What's weird is that I can't find a trailer for this game anywhere
OH MY GOD I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS AS A KID ON MY PC
outstanding graphics (much better than the first game for N64), great gameplay, great audio work... Battle for Naboo is one of the best flight combat games around. This might be my favorite "Rogue Squadron" game, actually... it's very hard to decide, because all four games are such great games, but this is certainly a very good one.
Oh, and the game has hidden audio commentary tracks too! Use the code and listen to them. Good stuff.
Did not know this game existed THANKS for the review now its time to go play the game
The only thing I could remember about this game before watching this review was how cool the death scream was
I have the Episode 1 on laserdisc ( only released in Japan ), and it will stay with me forever.
I just got star wars battle for naboo from Christmas last year!
Actually for a burn you disinfect the area as best you can and try and keep the area free from infection by butting a bandage on, also keeping air from making contact with the wound reduces the level of pain. However in the case of a troll being burned, add salt and massage it into their wound with some sandpaper.
I was like 4 years old when I first played it on my P.C... or was it N64...?
how was it that the Naboo fighter is in this game before it was first seen in episode 1 of all the movies.
Ladies and gentleman, he mentioned the T-1000 in a star wars game ! All hail mark :-)
it was also on the PC that is how I played it
Completely agree with you
Actually it's a 2600 Junior Model. I have that same model so I recognized it immediately.
RIP Factor 5. Damn you Lair & the PS3... I will never forget >:(
i remember this game
YAY, nem CGR episode! :D
I loved rogue squadron but I loved this game even more
oh god they used gouraud shading for the lighting on terrain
funny how these graphics were so awesome when I was a kid
Factor 5 made a remarkable work on this game. Battle for Naboo is one of the better looking and sounding N64 game.
Key word for Rogue Squadron......"EXCELLENT "!!
I agree.
Those graphics are pretty impressive!
I have this game on my PC.
Naboo, Naboo, Naboo! It just seems like Mark says that an awful lot of times in this review haha
thumbs up for a remake!!!
Somehow I believe the N64 was made specifically for the first Rogue Squadron, that game was so awesome that even the emulators can't read it. I mean the graphs, the ships, the music, the special effects sounds, the gameplay, the missions, man that thing ruled.
Lair?! 100% agree! But they usually made superb launch titles, that's what's so sad. Rogue Squadron being a perfect example.
I know cgr undertow reviewed it but you should review shadows of the empire
Good job Mark
I am to stupid for Rouge Squadron because I fail and have to replay 100 times and rage over that. Is naboo fighter little easier?
Freeze at the 15 second mark. He's right.
same here!
i love the prequels!
in my SWBFN jar jar is crushed by the LucasArts logo
its a shame that mark apparently didnt played through the very last mission, he would´ve loved it!
i wonder if this is the game i remember playing as a kid.
FilthyCasualKai I remember seeing it in a store but I don't think I have played it.
When Mark puts the cartridge on the console at the beginning of the video he thought it was an Atari 7800 instead of a 2600, just that.
What was his comment?
Love CGR !!!
Who else remembers the cheat code in 'Rogue Squadron' to play the Naboo Starfighter?
Yeah I did too, I was always confused at the hate that movie got when I was kid, I loved it at the time and still do
0:13 Good luck playing a N64 game in a Atari 2600 xD
I like all the movies. So feel even better. I thought 1, 2 and 3 were all decent movies. Not as good as the originals, but still awesome.
What emulator runs this game cause all the emulators iIve tried don't run this.
I would like for Disney and Lucasarts to release HD remakes of the Rogue Squadron games and Battle for Naboo for XBLA. For some reason, there are many more memorable and playable series of games from the fifth and sixth generations than the seventh generation.
I only remember the "chicken" code to play an AT-ST
I love your videos. Greetings from switzerland!
3 is my second favorite :D
It looks like Rouge Squadron, with a bigger draw distance XD
You should do a review about resident evil one on the game boy color I would love to see you review it :)
I was just wondering last night if this game was decent or not... then it's the next game CGR reviews. They seem to work that way sometimes.
I hate all you haters of the prequel Star Wars movies. We all loved at least the first one when they came out and somewhat got disappointed by the second but it had great fighting sequences. Three was better than two but the characters didn't get to be lovable over time but I actually do love the movies they don't compare to the original three but they aren't supposed to.
cool
2:08 "Naboo should have been overrun by Wookies a thousand years ago"
Yeah, I also wonder why it hasn't happened. Wookies at last have their awesome PIMPSLAP powers!
That's the thing, it's not horrible on it's own. If the original trilogy (4-6) had never been made no one would hate episode 1 the way they do.
I had a few Platinums in this game!
i still remember when i'm playing this game on the pc.... at last, i throw it away =,(
he does that in literally every video
may be the empire adopted the phrase "bigger is better"
what did he say?
i dont understand the episode 1 hate. did it not have enough explosions or crap jokes or something?
this looks like its next on the list of retro games to pick up! looks good!
so natalie portman, samuel jackson, ewan mcgreggor and liam neeson are bad actors? sounds like you just want really slow unconvincing fights and stormtroopers that cant shoot shit?! there is less attitude thats about it.
too much cgi? i forgot how easy it is to replicate intergalactic battles in real life. i mean who needs cgi. youre so right about everything.
+TheZoneless so you ask for an explanation and when you get one you just decide to crap all over his opinion, how mature? while yes we have a great cast in the film that doesn't mean jack. sam jackson didn't get to do anything memorable, liam neeson didn't have anything good to work with, ewan mcgreggor barely gets a pass but that because he has somewhat of an arc. hell even natalie portman admitted herself that her acting in episode one was bad.
+Goldenkosher saxybacon pretty sure the opinionated slaughtering and representation of "facts" on his part was worse.
TheZoneless no he gave you his reasons for why he disliked the movie, and while you don't have to agree with him at least respect what he has to say.
OMG I LIVE IN HOLMDEL
i liked the Phantom Menace. in fact, i liked all of the prequels. i really wish people would stop dumping on them. there are about a thousand other movies that deserve that kind of scorn.
What about Ogre Battle? That was a pretty good rpg.
I love Jar Jar. *Trolo.........*
YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THE N64 CONTROLLER LOOKS LIKE A NABOO STARFIGHTER
o shit it does
this was a fun game
I remember that I earned every (secret) platinum medal on this game . . . it was hard.
none of them are bad. If you haven't seen any of them I recommend you start at episode 4 and watch episode 4, 5, and 6. Then watch episode 1, 2, and 3.
mark i love episode 1 i mean i loved the prequells
Man I thought it was not too bad but after I viewed Mr Plinkett review, then I understand why it's so poor.Check out his review and I think you'll understand too.
yea...That's how they roll~
fun game!
Why thank you, doctor Kandosii.
please review shadow of the empire!!!! its so good
You should review Star Wars episode 1 the phantom menace for ps1 as I think you're able to kill jar jar
Mike - "I gave CGR an N64 game and they gave me the finger."
And at the end, he still keeps dying lol.
I played this game so much I unlocked some awesome level where you got to play as darth maul at the end in his ship. It was awesome.
Nope you are still wrong. It was a mini 2600. The 7800 has a much deeper cart port. I have this model of 2600 and a 7800 so I think I would know.
I miss Factor 5
What did he say? :o
Wow! The graphs are propably best in n64 and psone era. Didn't know N64 could show such details without fog. Almost looks like ps2 game.
Believe it or not this game was a technical accomplishment for the n64 because of the then "detailed" visuals and huge draw distance (since many outdoor areas in n64 games we're FOG laden).
