Gears of War is an award winning, bestselling science fiction video game franchise, created by Epic Games, currently developed by The Coalition, owned and published by Xbox Game Studios (previously known as Microsoft Game Studios). The trilogy, prequel and two sequels that currently make up the series take place on the planet Sera and focus on a war between humans and creatures known as the Locust Horde. In Gears of War, the protagonist Marcus Fenix, a soldier or "Gear" in the Coalition of Ordered Governments, leads his squad on a mission to deploy the Lightmass Bomb and destroy the Locust Horde in their underground strongholds. The sequel Gears of War 2 takes place six months after the events of the first game, and follows Delta Squad and the COG Army as it launches an assault directly against the Hollow in an effort to end the war. The second sequel Gears of War 3 takes places 2 years after the second game, when Marcus and his team have to combat the growing threat of the Lambent and rescue his father Adam Fenix from the Locust Horde. The prequel Gears of War: Judgment takes the players back before events of the original trilogy to the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day. Following Kilo Squad, led by Damon Baird and Augustus Cole, as they fight to save the city of Halvo Bay from an unstoppable enemy. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a remastered version of the original Gears of War, repackaged with brand new content. The third sequel Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the end of the Locust War and follows JD Fenix - the son of Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud - as he and his friends investigate a new mysterious threat responsible for disappearances of entire populations of multiple human settlements. The fourth sequel Gears 5 follows Kait Diaz, an ex-Outsider, who after joining the COG Army tries to uncover the origins of the Locust Horde and her connection to the enemy as a new war begins. Microsoft also announced 2 spin-offs of the series - Gears Pop! and Gears Tactics. Numerous comics and novels expand on the events, characters and backstory of the Gears universe.

My favorite thing about UE is how they re-did the cutscenes. As much as i love Gears of War I swear Gears 1 had some of the most nonsensical cutscenes like they would just stare into nothing taking long pauses or just kind of walking aimlessly. Or how some dialogue was directed pretty silly. Like when Cole says “The radios dont work for shit *pause* Sir”. And the scene goes on like that wasnt a weird way to say it.And in UE they show it by Kim just looking back at Cole with such a confused look.
Don't forget how there was a nod to the Gears 3 DLC regarding Kim and RAAM, not outright said but it's subtle enough to remind longtime players that their encounter was partly personal.
I replayed Gears 1 recently, and something about the game just felt uncanny. I’m pretty sure this is what it was. The dialogue and cutscenes just feel so awkward. Everything improved in Gears 2 thankfully.
Yeah it’s called setting the scene because you don’t know everything that’s out there and it’s more a feeling than seeing but the fact that I explain it good GOL
I think it’s because Gears of War 1 was very rushed and they wanted to get the game out sooner rather than later because the gameplay itself also had a finicky for a lot of people.
I liked how the original GOW did their cutscenes in one shot, instead of cutting to other camera angles. The scenes felt more personal and put you into the scene instead of just witnessing it from many angles. It’s really just a personal thing. I completely understand your point and it’s a fair one.
I like that in the og sometimes the cutscene is "shot" like a war documentary and they got a cameraman tagging along trying to cover the events.
The ultimate edition is shot more like a conventional movie

This was a good remaster. The only thing I wish they would've done is seriously rework the AI and bring it more in line with GOW2 where squad mates actually help. Playing on harder difficulty makes you hate the characters unintentionally.
I guess they wanted to keep the same experience GOW brought it, lol.
It's a hit or miss, tbh. Sometimes, Dom's AI and I can perfectly coordinate a front attack, and sometimes, he just charges up front and gets himself downed. This happens especially when there is an active Troika in the battlefield.
The problem with the AI is that It doesn't recognise what kind of danger it's facing and how It should react to certain conditions. I'm pretty sure Dom, Cole and Baird see a manned Troika as just a regular drone
The jump from gears1 to 3 is insane. all those improvements in one console generation is impressive. But this is impressive too
The OG still looks amazing for 2006! If anything, the remaster only refines it a tad with better staging for cutscenes and textures.
And the remake makes the lancer sound a lot better, it sounded like a pea shooter in the original game lol
The only thing i hate about the remaster is the dialed down blood affects. When you chainsaw, its nothing like the original...
Gore is toned down too, looks more like it does in 4 and 5 after you chainsaw someone

People are hating on this remastered. I understand how some bits feel worse than the original, but calling this game 4/10 or a wasted remake is just not right, and just proves you’re blinded by nostalgia. If this was the game we got instead of the og gears of war then it would have done just as well.
I prefer the original to the remaster. It just feels more atmospheric than the Ultimate edition. There was one section early on you were heading towards house of sovereigns down a street filled with abandoned cars. In the original the wind was howling down the street blowing rust off the cars thats absent in the remaster. The original really helped the feeling that the world has been decimated more. Still love both versions though.

I really prefer the original over the remaster. The remaster feels too polished-up and the changes made to the cutscenes really rob a lot of the atmosphere out of the game.
The changes made to the Berserker cutscene are just baffling. It’s so flat and sterile
I prefer the og barely just felt a littler darker but the remaster was really well done still captured that dark atmosphere

I prefer original, gears 1 and 2 were perfect because they were dark as hell.
Gears of war UE was my first gears game. It brought me into the franchise. They didn't just remaster it i think they brought back rhe actors to redo scenes and lines too. It would have been easy most of them were working on gears 4.
Gears UE can be a perfect remaster with a better rework AI and the correction of the original bugs; in other it's practiclly perfect.
For me the only downgrade is when RAAM kills Kim, in the original looks more intimidating and more scary and the scene when he stabs him looks more dramatic than the UE
Yeh I preferred the original cutscene where RAAM punch’s Kim then guts him like a fish in the most drab way possible had better atmosphere

This game franchise is thee only reason I received / own an Xbox to this day. Think I was...13 when this came out.
I remember playing this in front of my my dad and him just being in awe at the graphics / story cause he'd watch me play when it was his weekends. Hahaha an Xbox at my mom's, an Xbox at my pops'.

Gears ultimate is really great imo, there’s only some emotions I prefer in the OG and the menu.

Crazy how a game in 2006 looked better than one in 2015 . Gears ue looked too clean and cartoony. Look at delta squads skin 😂like they've been pampered beyond belief. Gears 1 is just too gritty and dark ,u can feel the sense of war
