I'm 56 years old and I still listen to the original cassetta of this album I bought at the time. Among other things, I saw Skid in Italy on the tour of the same name and Seb shook my hand from under the stage. I couldn't have had a better musical memory than this! ❤️‍🔥🤘

Facts. Auto tune didn't exist on recordings until the mid-late 90s. You can definitely notice a change in the standard of vocalist after that.

@@dumbgoof2731 Well, a bit more. Compresion, delay, reverb, equalization, maybe a subtle dimension, playing with volume on mix, but surely intonnation was always singer's talent at work. And expressions sound way more from soul when mr. auto tune is not around.

i worked at The Record Plant LA when they recorded Beside Ourselves. Sometime late in '91. The first thing Sebastian said when he walked in the door was, "Where's the buds"? Snake was the only artist to ever give me a tip for getting his food. We did Use your Illusion that same year it was vas a frightening, scary blast. Always saw Slash. He came back to do Blackand White....Those were crazy times. I think everyone here misses them. Thought it would last forever...

Rachel Bolan Interview on May 24, 2011. The question asked was "Is Quicksand Jesus about religious tension or bouts with faith?"
Bolan answered: You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I grew up in a Catholic family and so did Snake. You know that good old fashioned Catholic guilt. It’s just about keeping your beliefs during good times and bad times. It’s so easy to not be spiritual when things are going really good and then when they go bad you start relying on whatever god you pray to to get you out of it. It’s kind of saying that whatever it is you believe in, you should probably put in 100% all the time. We started writing it and war broke out in the middle east. The lyrics just started pouring out but we did not have a title for it. Snake and I used to do a lot of dirt bike riding and we knew we wanted “Jesus” in the title but we could never really settle on anything. There was a busted Jesus in Snakes mom’s flower garden. The garden was there right before we took off to go riding on the trail and every time it rained the Jesus sank. We called it “Quicksand Jesus” and what we would do is touch it for luck and then we would take off. If someone would wreck we’d say, “You forgot to touch Quicksand Jesus didn’t you?” One day, we just looked at each other and said, “That’s it! That’s the song title!” That song was a labor of love. Snake and I never had such a tug of war on certain parts and elements of songs as much as we did with that one. That one took us a long time to write. It’s cool that’s your favorite song because that’s my favorite Skid Row song that we ever did. I’m proud of it and I’m so glad we still do that one.

This is definitely one of my favorite SR song's. Sadly many people fall away because of Man- made Religion. They throw the baby out with the bathwater. The last "I'm so far away..." is one of the highest screams in hard rock/metal, on pair with the Halfords or the Cornell's of this life! This song is amongst the best of what was produced in the early nineties!! And it's only their second album... It hit me then, and it still hits me now, some 30 years later!!! This band should have reached far higher!!! A big thank you, Seb, Bolan and the team!!

Never understand why songs like this are not played over and over on every platform as possible.... I've been around for quite some time and grew up with all this brilliant music... black Sabbath..... Ozzy....led Zeppelin...pink Floyd..... just to name a few.....and remember this.... these guys .... either drank... did drugs and or both ..and still put their brains on never die mode.... this isn't just music to make money... these guys gave their selves to us for at least half of their lives if not more...to use our brains and think... let that sink in..........

When I was a young boy back then I simply didn’t care about Skid Row , I was more into Metallica, Testament, Slayer, Megadeth and other thrash metal bands. Thought that these guys where simply hard rock , but with time I came to learn that they played on a very thin line between that hard rock and heavy metal and yes , I now understand them and I apologize for my younger thoughts on them ! This turned out to be one of my favorite songs due to it’s very unique composition and song structure . Love it , and sometimes i play it on repeat just to hear Bach’s voice .
