Just subscribed today - Been watching your Rad Rover videos for quite a while, but really became interested once you did the Bolton upgrade. I ordered my Rover on May 10th, should get it sometime in June. Great job on your vids - Keep it up! :)
Are there specific settings for the KT-LCD8H with a 750w motor? I installed a 750 upgrade (OEM - not Bafang) today in my Rad Mini 4 (2021). Did the controller and display last year. Was only getting 22.2mph top speed on my display with the 500w on flat ground full throttle or PAS 5 pedalling. I'm getting 24.8 with the 750 upgrade. I'm suspicious because it's a new model 750 OEM that looks like a 500 internally. Maybe it's improved and I just need to adjust settings...??
Very good info and appreciated. Rad Power Bikes came out with the new rad wagon bike and for me a game changer. Now rearranging what bike to get. Either way runnner plus or wagon 4 this upgrade is a must! Though I would add the “real 750watt” motor. As to rain? Rain is good up to a point then it gets to be a drag. Thanks again!
I have a question. If i change the display of my engine pro 2.0 with the old engine pro 1's display. Is that going to affect my speed and limitations? Because i know that the pro 1 is way faster than the pro 2.
Thank You for Posting . I want to Buy the new Rad Rover 5 but They are out of stock and must be back ordered ,Still thinking about back ordering for July delivery
Ordered mine from electic bike world..or something like that. I bought the 35 amp controller and the cheaper display(not color). My bike is still under warranty, but I just cannot wait to get this upgrade. I will then judge if I need to swap the hub motor. My only beef with stock is slow response from throttle. I do like the fact that I can have cruise control with the upgrade.
YO YO U da man great 👍 video can you tell me if you're daily mileage is saved on new color screen? Or does it erase like old black and white screen? Willie G from San Jose California
Discovered an interesting limitation about putting C5 to 10. If I am on a steep slope and the battery is down towards 50%, the battery will max out and shut down for a few seconds. Talked to Bolton and they suggested pushing C5 from 2 up to 4 to protect the wattage overload on the battery. Too bad because I love that extra power but too many very steep hills where I work...unless I want to keep the battery above 50% on all rides.
She ordered this Bikeroo seat from Amazon www.amazon.com/Bikeroo-Comfortable-Cruiser-Bicycle-Suspension/dp/B07D3RBV1M/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=bikeroo+seat&qid=1590189976&sr=8-5
While pedaling or using the throttle my display won't read an accurate speed. It reads no more than 11 Mi/hr. Does anyone know the right settings to fix this?
I live in San Francisco, and there are a lot of hills, the stock rad rover components do an ok job but it needs a little more torque to get up steeper hills. My question is how does the extra power handle the hills, have you done a hill climbing test? I know the rad mini does better on hills than the original because of wheel size but I would love for my rad rover to be able to climb with more power.
The controller upgrade gives the bike a lot more power for hill climbs. you could check out my results video for side by side comparisons th-cam.com/video/OKycOxiSMQE/w-d-xo.html the comparisons start at timestamp 8:10 or you could check out this video for some more hill climb examples th-cam.com/video/dCTWoL6gnik/w-d-xo.html I think you would be pleased with the power difference, its a big change from stock rad rover. i've been in San Fran, those hills are no joke, i think the upgrade kit would be very beneficial, good luck whatever you decide :)
I preordered my rad rover 5 in may so I'll get mine in June, also ordered my wife the full sized rad step through in white, I noticed your spokes are white in this video compared to the last one when you did the controller comparison, did you paint them white?
The reason he "suggests" a 2 on C5 is so people don't completely fry the motor having it set to 10 and on the throttle the whole time and try to blame him. The motor puts out about 1600 watts set to 10, on a motor barely rated for 750 watts. 2 is as close to the stock controller as it gets. Having it set to 10 for a prolonged period will kill the motor. I tried all the settings from 1 to 10 and found 6 perfect for me personally.
C5 setting #2 Is two stage soft start with full power after startup so you get full power on 2. C5 set to 4 is the lowest power setting not 1,2 or 3 they are 1,2 and three stage soft start
👍🧡🚴♂️💨⚡⚡⚡ There could be a good chance your battery might catch on fire go and do a search on TH-cam on electric battery or bike catches on fire. What they have in common is high amp throughput drawing power from the battery and creating excessive heat. Fortunately there is a circuit breaker on the battery.
Does the upgraded display work with the stock controller as a plug & play or do you need to get the upgraded controller as well?

Awesome, thank you!

Hi Citizen, thanks for the heads up on C5. Do you know if the battery voltage can be changed to display percentage of charge instead?

Do it. There's a reason it's out of stock.
Will the Controller and screen sold at Bolton Ebikes work on a new rad rover 5 ? Just bought the 2020 model...

I have replaced the controller and motor. Insane performance but I am having trouble with surging with pedal assist any suggestions.
You can try setting C14 to 1 or setting C5 to 2
Have you come across a good case/cover for the controller? I thought you mentioned finding one in another video
YO YO U da man great 👍 video can you tell me if you're daily mileage is saved on new color screen? Or does it erase like old black and white screen? Willie G from San Jose California
Trip mileage is saved until you manually reset it 😁
@@CitizenCycle925 Thank you so much for information and all your great ebike videos 📹 my brother 🙏 may God bless you all
Skipped right over the part that most people want to know: does setting the wheel size make a difference in speed or not?
Great video! Could you have replaced the screen without updating the controller?

What seat did you get for the Radmini Step Thru? Just got my wife that ebike and considering changing out the seat.

Search Amazon for "spoke skins"

I’ve used only 10 for over 500 miles and had no issues whatsoever which is surprising befang motors are indestructible lol
Please consider asking Radrover to offer a brighter display that can be seen in bright sunlight in Florida such as a TFT or OLED or LED display.
Are you running the stock battery ?
Yes
Great video! I've heard people say throttle almost lifts bike during take off, is this true?
Like off the ground?
@@AndresSanchez-io1oi I've heard that it almost does
Yes if you pedal and twist throttle at same time, front wheel comes up.
I rode my Runner in the rain...oh my god, I had no idea how wet it would be. Made it about a mile and went home soaked to the bone.

Wow great info thanks!
5/22/2020 Bolton has the controllers in stock right now!
Sold out
Nice

its the risky ebay ones you gotta worry about using used batteries or miexed types
Thank you, Mr. Bond!
C5, but this one goes to 11
