Hades - Dying beside Thanatos and using Mort (throwing away runs so death-senpai will notice me)

- Does Thanatos say anything when you die, like in the trial of gods? Apparently, not really. I've noticed that:
- Usually, he seems to only react to you taking damage or dying for the first time with a simple voice line.
- He seems to always talk when targetting and finishing enemies.
- He seems to seldom react to you hitting him.
- He seems to spawn in Tartarus much more rarely than in Asphodel or Elysium, and only during generic encounters, probably for prioritizing encounters with many enemies.
- His power takes time to activate in a small area and is easy to miss.
- Since armor is a second HP bar immune to crowd control effects, his power won't really damage an armored enemy :/
- His power seems to activate on the walk-able terrain closest to you and the closest enemy.
- He remembers Theseus XD it's a shame that I didn't record the first time I used Mort there.
- You don't need to defeat him to find him home later!
Update! I've found his death lines in line 7687 in AudioData.lua but IDK how to trigger them. Can't believe that he actually brings Zagreus home. Lines are:
-- Time to go home. -- Can't be helped. -- You tried. -- Oh, Zag... -- What were you thinking. -- You're dead. -- You're dead, Zag. -- You're coming with me. -- That's it. -- That does it. -- Well, come along. -- You had this coming. -- What did you expect. -- No escaping Death. -- I have to take you back. -- Let's go home. -- Let's go, Zag. -- We're heading home. -- There is no escape. -- Time to die. -- Blood and darkness. -- In the name of Hades. -- Death has come. -- Not this time. -- I'm sorry. -- I have to take you now. -- It's over. -- You're finished. -- You brought this on yourself. -- Your luck's run out. -- Nothing I can do.
Updating again, I DID IT! • Hades 'story mode' pt 46 IDK why he has so many lines for an event that can only happen if the player suicides. I also figured out more about his spawning (from a comment): "according to his coding (even though I don't understand it entirely) some of his requirements are that you took damage in the last "five" (minutes? Chambers?); are past chamber number 9/2/3 (of Tartarus/Asphodel/Elysium 'biome depth'); and that the chamber has a certain difficult and number of certain enemies of a ramping value that I have no idea how is calculated...
He's complicated lol. I tried lowering the biome depth so he'd have more chances to spawn, but it broke the game sometimes, and others the enemies wouldn't appear. I succeed in making him spawn multiple times in a run (his max is 1) and in easier chambers by lowering the difficult and minimum enemy numbers."
There's also this cute moment where if you die with Than there (or perhaps after you finish a competition) he shows up like Hades during a 45 sec encounter and is like "we're going home". I was so pleasantly surprised when that happened
I didn't know this at the time either. It's one of his possible phrases.

As if my countless suicides in the lava of Asphodel (or other regions via traps/bosses) after each individual Than encounter (BECAUSE THIS MF DIDN'T WANT TO FREAKING TRIGGER THE EVENTS THAT MAKES IT SO THAT YOU CAN GIVE HIM AMBROSIA AND WOULD ALWAYS BE TALKING TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THE HOUSE SO I COULDN'T FREAKING PROGRESS THROUGH HIS DIALOGUE BY TALKING TO HIM--) weren't enough...

I love how in some occasions Zag just calls him "Than!" in this really cute, almost baby-girl voice, very high pitched tone. They're so boyfriends and I cannot deal with it 🥰

It seems to be Thanatos that enforces the tight deadline, after time runs out, the screen flashes green, the bell tolls, and it shows the ghostly purple skulls ticking away your health. So i wonder if there's unique dialogue if you summon thanatos while you're out of time, or run out of time during a competition. I tried summoning him after running out of time a couple times but as far as i can remember it didn't seem like unique dialogue

you can absolutely talk to him! i’ve been meeting him in asphodel and then standing in the lava after he disappears lol that’s the easiest way to trigger the lines

I only might add that, based on my experience, he spawns rarely both in Tartarus and Asphodel. The most times I met him were at Elysium. Actually, I've met him only once in the Asphodel, so I guess it's more or less pure random. Or it is canon, cuz he says if you spawn him while beating Learnie "I don't like the heat down here" :))
It’s funny because I found him once in Elysium and after that he has only shown up in Asphodel lol
I haven't watched the video fully yet but want to add. If you summon Than while fighting with Meg, he can say "Please, don't make me do this"😭 After he said this to me I never used his abilities on Meg ever again 😭😭😭

He has a higher chance of spawning in rooms with lots of tough common enemies so make sure you're getting past Tartarus. Also, his 1st encounter is in Elysium I think. I don't remember if your HP affects his spawning in any way. Yw, have fun

Yeah, 5 months ago I had only a few days before Hades left gamepass catalog, so barely got to see half the story. Now I bought it, ended it, and got to unlock the pact of punishment where I do get to fight the three sisters at once. Never included it in my plays though.

you have to have a conversation with hades about using companions against him, i think there's a prerequisite that you need to have at least 2 chthonic companions unlocked
