I teach sports medicine in high school and have begun to use your videos from time to time in my lessons. We're are actually covering the shoulder and arm so this is very relevant. Thanks for doing what you do! Keep it up!
Great video! I think it's also very interesting that this is usually a chronic injury, usually from over use, and not acute. It makes a great case for the pitch count and other pitching rules in the MLB.
I’m not a sports fan at all. But I find human anatomy and injuries interesting. I’ve been binge watching this channel for like three days. Such a great channel!
Shohei Ohtani, Matt Harper, Stephen Strousburg, Corey Seager, Adam Wainwright, and Trevor Rosenthal?(Maybe just because of the Cardinals uniform but that's my best guess)
Shohei Ohtani, Corey Seager, Matt Harvey, Chris Carpenter, and looks like Smoltz but i don’t remember him on the Cards. EDIT: I also forgot Strasburg pre-beard. Go halos! 😇
Brian Sutterer MD Ewww bet it’s cold up there lol. Anyways, love the vids man! Can’t resist clicking on them when I see them and always end up learning something new!
Yea it's not bad..turning me into a hockey fan haha appreciate the support especially while this is all so new and I'm learnjnf through how to have better production!
Doc. Could you make a video on wrist injuries, more espscifically o the triangular cartilage. Also, it would be nice to have a ulnar elbow injurie breakdown. Love the videos, I always learn a lot from them!
Can you do a video on bone chips/spurs in the elbow? After suffering myself I feel like there is a general lack of awareness in the baseball community about this injury and I would love for you to touch on it in depth.
My friend tore his UCL while pitching. The crazy thing is he was on a baseball diamond in Terre Haute named after Tommy John. The same field where Tommy John played his last high school game.
I had a partially torn UCL back in junior year of high school and they just had me do therapy but it never recovered I feel like. Was gonna try and pitch in college but I gave up because of the pain and I still have it to this day
@@BrianSuttererMD The irony lol probably felt surreal talking about a surgery you went through...hats off to you for playing tennis, i just couldn't get it lol
Hey Brian, can you make a video explaining Robby Fabbri’s situation with two ACL tears/surgeries? How common or uncommon is this? I’m a big cardinals and blues fan, and like to hear your feedback! Keep up the great work with the videos, they’re awesome.
caused by extending at the elbow. Either due to repetitive extension or a high force extension. Often seen in tennis players because of the amount of backhanding they do And very similar to how he explained this but instead of the MCL/UCL, it’s the LCL/RCL of the elbow that is affected with tennis elbow.
Other than pitch counts and reducing pitch speed, is there anything that can be done to help a young pitcher avoid this injury? Like special exercises or longer warmup time, etc.
Idk if this is a dumb question or not, im far from being a doctor...but why repair whats torn? Whether its this or an ACL or an MCL, you would think by now in 2019 they would have something that if the ligament is to the point that the athlete may not be the same why not replace it with something thats identical and of the same substance as the ligament itself? Maybe theyve already done this idk. But wouldn't that cut the healing time in half or better?
I am certainly no expert, but I was told they replace the Ligament with a Tendon. but maybe that was false. With the attention that pitch speed is getting, we see more players getting close to that 100 mark. I really feel that todays players should not throw pitches that speed especially early in ST. Too much stress on those elbows after being mostly inactive in the offseason, I wonder about how pitchers are being trained.
I have trouble achieving wrist extension. Only able to get 30°-35%. No pain. Any ideas. Never broke my wrist. Very frustrating for playing tennis, especially the forehand.
Dr. Sutterer can you help me? I had a sports related injury when I was a teenager. I was pitching when I was struck by a line drive to my right temple. When I arrived at the hospital I had to have surgery to remove an epidural hematoma. There is a lot more to this story, but I'm in my early 40's and I'm uninsured. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Take care
My elbow has always hurt ever since i was 12. Im now 15 and it hasnt gotten any better. Ive had x-rays and they came back with nothing wrong with it. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Im in pain almost every time i pitch
I’m trying to find a video on the ulnar nerve you mentioned, I’ve got issues on both elbows where my ulnar nerve bounces around my “funny bone” and causes numbness, sometimes my arms just give out even with 5lbs weight
i’m confused as to why I haven’t been able to walk for 2 and a half months (fracture of the lower extremity of my fibula and dislocation of my ankle and tore my syndesmosis ligaments and had surgery to put 6 screws and a metal plate and a tight rope for my ankle) but someone like Hector Bellerin who tore his ACL around the same time is already walking and i still have a couple weeks before i can
@Johnny Z'Salt Feel free to live in that little bubble of yours, devoid of reality. It's proven that it's not "They're used less" that the style allows for longer careers. Alone on injury rate in the minority it's an easy inference, though non scientific As for that other thing of 'not knowing true velocity"... Honest I don't wanna speak on that myth, it's fucking hillarious people believe that. If everybody threw like Chapman or Nolan they'd still not hit those speeds, maybe stop living in a fantasy.
@Johnny Z'Salt State your insane beliefs to Kent Tekulve and after he teaches you how wrong you are come back to me. I ain't here to fuck around with your prejudice which is detached from reality
@Johnny Z'Salt Keep whining. MLB history knows the truth. Submariners on average are better than any other type of pitcher in relief and starting scenarios
Can you cover the retired knee issues nba players have? They make fun of kenny smith, but alot of ballers have it and say it's just "the price you pay". I feel like that's horseshit and they could have avoided it with better mechanics and abductors
I watch Dr. Sutterer’s videos about baseball more than I watch actual baseball games 😂
Adnan A I can relate to this . Hope this guy gets credit he deserves
Same
Do Mike Tyson's broken back injury. Sthpinal.

Great video! I think it's also very interesting that this is usually a chronic injury, usually from over use, and not acute. It makes a great case for the pitch count and other pitching rules in the MLB.
Cardinals fan you say? That's rough being a Cubs fan. But still won't change the enjoyment I have for your videos. Good stuff.
Cr1nged Client me and you both
Love the content man! You're making kinesiology a lot easier
I work at a baseball stadium so I watch pitchers throw all season. Incredible to see someone’s arm have that much power!
This is better than actually watching baseball. Thanks for another great video!
I’m not a sports fan at all. But I find human anatomy and injuries interesting. I’ve been binge watching this channel for like three days. Such a great channel!
Lol this would have helped me when I had my exam last week. Lol but it is never too late to learn
What are you studying?
Dr Sutter is a Cardinals fan! LETS GOOOOO
STL is where it's at
Ya it is
L
🤮
Can you name all of the players in the thumbnail?? Excited for some great baseball discussion this summer!!
I can't even name one but I'll still watch the video
Ohtani is the only one I recognize:( lol
Shohei Ohtani, Matt Harper, Stephen Strousburg, Corey Seager, Adam Wainwright, and Trevor Rosenthal?(Maybe just because of the Cardinals uniform but that's my best guess)
Chris carpenter, shohei ohtani, Jordan Zimmerman??, seager, anddddd idk. Is that Matt harvey?
Shohei Ohtani, Corey Seager, Matt Harvey, Chris Carpenter, and looks like Smoltz but i don’t remember him on the Cards.
EDIT: I also forgot Strasburg pre-beard. Go halos! 😇
Awesome video! Love being able to learn and engage in knowledge with your videos
omg you’re a cardinals fan too? bro you’re vids are just the best lmao
Born in St Louis, then spent childhood years in Lexington kentucky haha. Famiky moved a lot . Now I'm in Minnesota

Finally been waiting for this
So happy to see you’re a cardinals fan bro!! Cardinal Nation! 😄

Hope you got Steph Curry’s continual ankle injuries coming up soon!
I do!
@@BrianSuttererMD Nice!
Brian Sutterer MD Much support, enjoy your videos and you’ll blow up some more I guarantee you.
Dr. Brain back with another banger! Thanks for these videos

I went to college in terre haute!
ugh idk why but him just kinda describing it made my skin crawl, just thinking about the body like that makes me queezy
I had a partially torn UCL back in junior year of high school and they just had me do therapy but it never recovered I feel like. Was gonna try and pitch in college but I gave up because of the pain and I still have it to this day
You should do a rotator cuff video for pitchers, there’s a lot to talk about in the shoulder of a pitcher!!
very informative
Great video Doc! Looks like you had some elbow surgery also....were u a pitcher? lol Keep up the good work!
Good catch! No I played tennis but I did have Tommy John surgery
@@BrianSuttererMD The irony lol probably felt surreal talking about a surgery you went through...hats off to you for playing tennis, i just couldn't get it lol
You deserve wayyy more subs
Yes!!! Go birds baby!! Are you from St. Louis ??
Please do an episode explaining Steven Souza tearing his acl, lcl, and pcl after slipping on home plate
tennis elbow injury would be a great video!
Love your jersey! I’m a St. Louis native btw 😉
HAHA yessir cardinals are the best. forgot it was opening day today and almost wore my shirt but ended up wearing an OKC shirt . lol
harvey, ohtani, carpenter, strausburg, seager, and i cant tell who that last cardinal is ughhh
Smoltz
@@BrianSuttererMD woah i was about 10 when he was on the cardinals .
Dr. Sutterer should be the new member of "The Dr's" lol
Hey Brian, can you make a video explaining Robby Fabbri’s situation with two ACL tears/surgeries? How common or uncommon is this? I’m a big cardinals and blues fan, and like to hear your feedback! Keep up the great work with the videos, they’re awesome.
Korey Kluber is a legend and pitching in his thirties without tommy John’s yet has 2 cy young’s
Also have fun with Andrew Miller
Great work buuuuutttttt that jersey would look sexier as a royals one ☝️
Talking about elbows, I hope you can talk about tennis elbow and how one gets it. I believe I have it so it’ll be nice knowing what’s going on

Haha appreciate you
Love your channel! Could you do psoriatic arthritis related to Phil Mickelson please!
Thankssss doctor👍

Helpful video…thanks doogie howser, md
Oh come on Doc! Go Cubs Go!
Would love to see a video of obj ankle injury last year

Noooo I loved you before I found out you were a cards fan!! #istillloveyou
What was the medical diagnosis and the MOI??
I tore my rotator cuff 3 years ago then 2 years after my surgery I tore my labram
Brandon Roy?
And now Shohei has another UCL tear. Man that had to be disappointing to hear for him.
My cousin had this surgery in college, he never played again.

Does a submarine or three quarters pitcher run less of a risk for this injury or are they increasing the chance for others?

Yeah! Go Cardinals!
More baseball videos 🔥🔥🔥🤭
How is Tanaka still pitching? Every article I've read, mentions he has a partial tear that he is pitching through.
can you do a video on bone bruises?? thank you
I’m trying to find a video on the ulnar nerve you mentioned, I’ve got issues on both elbows where my ulnar nerve bounces around my “funny bone” and causes numbness, sometimes my arms just give out even with 5lbs weight
Do one on Steven Souza Jr who is out for the season cause he slipped on home plate
this may sound strange but hurt the ulna nerve by accidently hitting it the wrong way on a door edge one night years ago
Yo doctor can you look into the series of injuries the great Ronaldo Nazario had in the 2000s. Maybe go into more soccer injuries too
Hi can you talk about Josh Hart's injury?
could you do a video on tennis elbow? or is that too similar to this one?
Nvm I just found it thank doc !
Did you grow up around St. Louis or does you being a Cards fan have nothing to do with location?
Born in St Charles and my parents are from southeast mo
Rotator cuff tears and oblique injuries next
hahaha Doc! I was about to say! Why aren't you a Cubs or White Sox fan!?!?
Born in St Charles (suburb of St Louis) and all my relatives are from Missouri!
Can you do one on the labrum please. I have a tear myself
i’m confused as to why I haven’t been able to walk for 2 and a half months (fracture of the lower extremity of my fibula and dislocation of my ankle and tore my syndesmosis ligaments and had surgery to put 6 screws and a metal plate and a tight rope for my ankle) but someone like Hector Bellerin who tore his ACL around the same time is already walking and i still have a couple weeks before i can
i broke my growth plate away from my elbow what do i do after 1 month of the surgery
Go Cubs!!
Yay baseball!!!!
I broke my medial epicondyle bone (funny bone) from throwing. Any explanation for this? Please respond
Hmm was it your flexor tendons that avulsed off?
I think I was a cat in my past life because that white dot is killing me
What about qb’s with shoulder injuries like cam newton
Here after seeing that Big Ben had something similar
*notes who the Nats swept in 2019 NLCS*
Oh also, go Cubs go!!!
The worst case I've seen was when that guy snapped his arm with throwing the ball 😖
Go Cardinals!!!!
do andrew bogut elbow please!
Who else is here after the DeGrom news?
watching this after Paul George tore his UCL to find out if hes done for the season
I don’t even watch baseball but this was a very interesting and entertaining video :)
And this is why us submarine pitchers are the longest lasting. Stop oppressing and forcing people to stop throwing submarine
