Obviously not true - he's quite good at doing work in WWE and getting clicks on TH-cam. DEFINITELY TRUE about his business ventures though, all trash...so far!
That's a gross oversimplification. There are many CEOs in the world, many doctors, and many contexts in which a member of the first group could call one of the second an idiot, and sometimes the CEO would be justified. (Though the present case isn't one of these times.)
My PE teacher once told us that if you don't do activities that make you sweat, you don't need to drink these. It's just like drinking saltwater for no reason.
Even if you do activities that makes you sweat you typically only need water and a balanced diet. When athletes have something like "gatorade" on their bottle it's probably still filled with water, because drinking sports drinks while doing sports is repulsive.
@@volundrfrey896 I put an electrolyte powdered sachet into my water that I drink while doing Muay Thai, failing that I drink 'Sponsor', never felt it was repulsive.
@@volundrfrey896 you’re righr, but during endurance sports you need to hCe electrolytes drinks to avoid being in hyponatremia, which is a lack of electrolyte in your blood which can lead to dangerous consequences. Drinking too much plain water during long efforts is diluting your blood/electrolyte balance. Going to the gym, doing a WOD in crossfit, doing olympic weightlifting, isn’t part of that. Marathons and beyond, Tour de France, everything endurance related you need sugar and electrolyte balanced drinks/gels for the reason above.
I know a movie about where the guy time travelled in the future where everyone is specifically smart but really just doesn't have common sense or basic knowledge anymore So they used energy drinks as water for plants
It already happened, just think of people who don't drink water. There are definitely some who call it "liquid for flushing toilets" or something like that.
You need to go back and watch this video again cause there are cuts throughout it. Example 3:09 I'm pretty sure he's not a magic doctor and he made that prime bottle magically materialize in his hand🤣
The fact that Logan was so ready and willing to call a doctor an idiot just sums up how fit he is to be selling a product that's supposed to be good for your health.
The great medieval doctor, Paracelsus, said it the best, "All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; the dosage alone makes it so a thing is not a poison."
Actually, I find that when I'm sweating a lot, the salty taste of a sports drink tastes incredibly nice because that's what my body wants me to drink. So, the fact that Prime is trying to avoid the salty taste tells me it's the exact opposite of a sports rehydration drink. They are fully aware that when people drink it, they won't be active or crave salt, so the salty taste would be unpleasant to their target audience.
That's actually the one marketing slogan that was true. Gatorade used to say "tastes best when you need it most" which was def. true. (I think they've reformulated to be "sweeter" though.)
@@jafafa I feel the newer flavors have alot of more sugar added to it, but classic flavors like the lemon and orange one I believe still tastes a little salty.

Hydration drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are primarily marketed as sports drinks, because they are meant for very active people who are losing those electrolytes. I feel like that’s one of the main things people miss when thinking they need to drink stuff like this
Easy rule of thumb: if a TH-camr or celebrity makes up a all new proprietary blend formula and sells it to you as the answer to your problems run the bleep away it’s absolute horse 💩 a scam and no reasonable person should partake.

I think Food Theory did a great breakdown on Sports Drinks and how your body actually uses them. When you sweat, you mainly lose sodium and magnesium and barely any potassium. That's why things like Gatorade and Powerade help you rehydrate better than ones like Prime and Body Armor. I work in a warehouse and do landscaping in Georgia, it's hot and humid here so of course I sweat a lot. Gatorade helps a lot, but you should really only drink it when you're actually dehydrated and not just simply thirsty.
The funny thing is Prime gets rid of the salt because it wants to be sweet instead of having the salty taste that Gatorade has, not knowing that’s the main selling point of these rehydration drinks. I haven’t drink one myself, seeing how expensive they are, but my friend who had, said they taste like battery acid. And you know it’s bad when even little kids who are the target audience of Logan and KSI, didn’t finish the bottle.
I would argue if you're doing landscaping here in just slightly Balmy Georgia..you might want to switch to Gatorade SOME, but yeah, Also just drink a lot of water.
It actually makes some of the other values significantly worse. 7g of added sugars per 230kcal (61g per 2000kcal) is still way too much to be considered healthy. The WHO suggests a limit of 50g per 2000 Calories with additional health benefits below 25g. Then you have the saturated fats and sodium which are obviously way too high for this few calories. If it were the same calories as the other one (which is also garbage), at least the sugar content would be somewhat passable.
Their idea of what's "healthy" seems to be based on a gym bro mentality where less calories is better because you want to lose weight and get "cut" and more electrolytes is better because you sweat a lot when working out and need to replenish your body's salt balance. Apparently, they never paused to question whether the same thing that's good for them is good for children.
@@generalrubbish9513 There's nothing that would be good about this for "gym bros" either. "Gym bros" generally want to build muscle, and for that you need a good amount of protein (to build muscles) and to a lesser degree carbohydrates (to have energy in the gym) - both being calories. If you're cutting, it's even more important to have a high protein density in your nutrition, and these are 80-90% fat and carbohydrates. Also, the vast majority of "gym bros" really don't need any electrolyte drinks either. For the majority of people, you'd have to profoundly sweat for hours (think at least marathon level) and/or drink too much water (too much water can flush out electrolytes).
the only issue with gatorade though is it really does have too much sugar. over 30g per regular bottle is pretty excessive. plus artificial dyes arent great for you either. i agree it should be in the workout section, but there are definitely better options
@@levislayterPersonally, I always make my own workout drink by measuring out how much Gatorade powder I want based upon the caloric content (around 50-100 calories per bottle), then supplement that with some matching zero calorie electrolyte liquid that matches the flavor. @@levislayter I think the best commercial Gatorade ever released was one featuring Karl-Anthony Towns saying, “hold on, you gotta earn the sugar in that Gatorade.”

0:49 Just because it’s less doesn’t mean it’s better. A can of soda would have less calories than a full fledged meal, but a meal would be healthier any day. Those things have empty calories and no nutritional value. Children should be eating fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. Not junk food and energy drinks.
actual nutrients are expensive though, why not just rebrand pure sugar that is dirt cheap bc it's over subsidized. Why would we give kids what they need when some CEO somewhere could make more money?
Glad you mentioned the sugar. The sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLTs) proteins transport both sodium and glucose into the bloodstream simultaneously. Glucose expedites the absorption of water and electrolytes, making hydration more efficient. That's why saline drips always contain glucose, and it's also why I scoff when I see people consuming these "zero calorie" or "sugar free" electrolyte hydration drinks. From one doctor to another, much obliged. Thanks for spreading this information! You're one of my role models in our field.
I won't scoff at those people. If they want to avoid sugar like a plague, they won't mind slower hydration and should adjust the intensity of their physical activities accordingly.

Correct me if I’m wrong I’m genuinely curious. My understanding is that when you sweat, your body loses a lot of sodium and water. To try and hold onto as much water as possible, your body releases aldosterone, which tells your kidneys to try and retain water from entering urine by holding onto sodium, because as the primary osmotic solute water will naturally follow wherever sodium is. However, in the words of Interstellar “something has to get left behind.” If your kidneys are gonna hang onto sodium, they gotta leave something else with an equivalent charge in the urine. So they pull an Indiana Jones relic switcheroo where they replace the sodium that was supposed to be excreted with… Potassium. So effectively, in a roundabout way, your body will lose potassium when sweating.
It's actually quite dangerous to drink just water when exercising hard, you end up just passing lots of the water rather than absorbing it and you flush your electrolytes out even more than you already have from the sweating.

Very true Doc, you stated the answer yourself. It simply boils down to the fact that sodium makes drinks salty. Prime is targeted towards kids who want to drink something sweet. Prime doesn’t use sodium for that reason alone as doing so would force them to add sugars similar to how Gatorade adds sugar to mask the sodium content in their drinks. Prime is bad and shouldn’t be marketed towards kids at all.
Show me one study that shows American children need more salt and sugar in their diet. Studies show the exact opposite. Yet the American diet is low in potassium.
@@yourboy4ohChildren don’t need to drink potassium they can just eat bananas. But would you eat a banana during and after a workout? No. Yes the American diet is high in sodium. However, with a proper diet and some exercise you won’t be high in sodium cuz you lose it during exercise. So if YOU drink prime thinking it’s going to replenish your electrolytes, you have to think again. If you drink it cuz you love it, then that’s another story. Edit: technically it’s good to eat a banana after a workout. Healthier than prime, but still won’t keep your sodium levels balanced.
Dr truly speaks truth, the overcomplication of hydration is prevalent and while true that it helps athletes or people with certain conditions balance their electrolytes levels, it is true that the majority of people will live perfectly fine by JUST DRINKING WATER, it's not that complicated

There needs to be some responsibility being thrown towards the FDA in these influencers throwing fancy terminology to sugarcoat how much shit is in their product. Its just awful that they clearly target kids to get their parents to buy garbage and its hard to expect them to see through the bullshit through first glance
The law describes these products as "nutritional supplements" like vitamins & foods and not "medicine/drugs" which have to go through a rigorous testing & approval process. Supplements & vitamins are not intended to treat disease, so the FDA can't do much except to make sure they aren't contaminated. Medicines & drugs are intended to treat disease, so they need to prove their effectiveness and to identify side-effects. But as for these energy drinks and vitamins, the FDA basically lets these products hit the market fairly easily. And from that point on, it's up to the consumer to educate themselves about the benefits and harms of consuming those products. The state of Utah has a massive economy that relies on vitamins & supplements. The reality is that most vitamins are not absorbed and urinated out - the way the body absorbs vitamins is through food and generally not through pills. Utah fought for years (with Republicans leading the charge) against regulations. And those vitamin makers get richer & richer while consumers produce a lot of expensive pee.

A bit of responsibility towards parents wouldn't hurt as well. Sure, regulation that helps prevent these vile con artists from spewing bullshit and selling it to idiots and children would be great but the buck ultimately has to stop somewhere. Fortunately, for the most part, a lot of these vitamin drinks are just really expensive pee. They might not harm the kids but they do harm the parents' wallets.

Electrolytes used to just because salts or blood salts. So whenever someone says electrolytes just think salt. They rebranded it because people started worrying about their salt intake.
yes electrolytes are salts, but the salt everyone just calls "salt" is sodium chloride, most average people don't realise that electrolytes are salts in a chemistry sense, rather than a culinary one. it marks a clear divide between table salt, which is very obvious when youre eating it or using it, and other necessary salts. and one electrolyte doesnt have much to do with another, so your "salt" intake (NaCl) could be way over reasonable because you eat way too much potato chips, and you could be entirely deficient somewhere else.. so i think your point is really not a helpful one for clarity.

bro my french teacher mr grant in freshman year told me he was friends with you. Is that true?
I think Food Theory did a great breakdown on Sports Drinks and how your body actually uses them. When you sweat, you mainly lose sodium and magnesium and barely any potassium. That's why things like Gatorade and Powerade help you rehydrate better than ones like Prime and Body Armor. I work in a warehouse and do landscaping in Georgia, it's hot and humid here so of course I sweat a lot. Gatorade helps a lot, but you should really only drink it when you're actually dehydrated and not just simply thirsty.
Don't let logan paul see this or he might sue u too. 😂 logan is such a freakin idiot
The funny thing is Prime gets rid of the salt because it wants to be sweet instead of having the salty taste that Gatorade has, not knowing that’s the main selling point of these rehydration drinks.

I would argue if you're doing landscaping here in just slightly Balmy Georgia..you might want to switch to Gatorade SOME, but yeah, Also just drink a lot of water.
The average American has as much need for an electrolyte hydration drink as much as the average Nigeria needs a gastric bypass...
The funniest thing to me is that they are marketing it as having less calories. Like… do they not understand we need calories to survive??
People associate 'calories' with 'getting fat'
Gatorade shouldn't be in the juice/pop sections at grocery stores. It needs to be with the rest of the workout items like protein bars and powder.
I've never thought of that. Would help a lot, especially for parents who might not be as informed on the subject.
the only issue with gatorade though is it really does have too much sugar. over 30g per regular bottle is pretty excessive. plus artificial dyes arent great for you either. i agree it should be in the workout section, but there are definitely better options
@@levislayterPersonally, I always make my own workout drink by measuring out how much Gatorade powder I want based upon the caloric content (around 50-100 calories per bottle), then supplement that with some matching zero calorie electrolyte liquid that matches the flavor. This still gives me some sugar (which is good for both energy and electrolyte balance) and still tastes good without being unnecessarily high in sugar.
@@levislayter I think the best commercial Gatorade ever released was one featuring Karl-Anthony Towns saying, “hold on, you gotta earn the sugar in that Gatorade.”
@@levislayter That's not actually an issue for high intensity workouts. You just shouldn't be consuming it on the daily as a regular drink, that's when it causes issues.

im in phsyiology aswell haha we learned about sodium potassium pumps that are assosciated with our neurons haha

@@snapperboat25 it is what TH-cam feels is a doctor.. those are the videos with a YT label saying they are a practicing doctor from xyz etc. it’s all BS IMHO

You have no idea what you are talking about. Please educate yourself before listening to Instagram doctors.🤦 This is one of the most moronic videos and Dr Sutterer is an incompetent mess. Tweeted that Prime was marketing Sodium as electrolytes then makes a video claiming PRIME does not have enough sodium to be an electrolyte drink. He is desperately trying to cover up his stupidity in his tweet.
A bit of responsibility towards parents wouldn't hurt as well. Sure, regulation that helps prevent these vile con artists from spewing bullshit and selling it to idiots and children would be great but the buck ultimately has to stop somewhere. Any parent that doesn't at least take an interest into what their kids are consuming doesn't deserve children and really doesn't deserve oxygen, either.
@@tree_eats As a parent, I can tell you it's really hard to police all of the products out there. I welcome stronger regulations so that kids don't end up buying an energy drink that contains enough stimulants that will keep an elephant dancing for weeks. We all need to do a better job.
Fortunately, for the most part, a lot of these vitamin drinks are just really expensive pee. They might not harm the kids but they do harm the parents' wallets.
Every company does this
Doctor I'm originally from the Caribbean and my go to electrolyte is natural Coconut water. Incredibly refreshing.
The power of proximity, but you need sodium NaCl not potassium salts/electrolytes for physical activity. You’ll urinate the excess. Anything your body doesn’t use will be flushed.
Prime is giving you like 10times the potassium and a 1/10th of the sodium needed. Just using electrolyte/salts terminology to advertise a catch all term for all salts negative ionic bond (sodium magnesium and potassium, etc)
@@ChosonJindos My young friend in the Caribbean we have a plethora of fruits. And as someone

@@aaronlopez492 natural is always best, usually, but still need the correct percentages of minerals during specific activities. When sweating you need to replace the sodium NaCl, Could probably just eat salt and replace the water but we’re talking about energy/sports beverages. Coconut water and fruits are good But potassium the mineral isn’t what your body is lacking.
@@ChosonJindosthis mf just said you don't need electrolytes for physical activity 😂😂 are u deluded
Chemicals like citric acid can be naturally occurring or synthesized. Doesn't mean it isn't citric acid and doesn't behave the same way. You can mix sodium hydroxide in solution and hydrochloric acid in a proper stoichiometric mixture to get salt water with a ph7
Edit now that's not to imply that natural isn't better. We evolve to thrive on what nature gives us or we perish. Natural selection, but doesn't mean we can't understand nature and attempt to manipulate it for human benefit.
Mr. Beast watched "Idiocracy" and thought: "Hey, that's a good idea!"
Thank you for pointing out that WHO Oral Rehydration Solution, seems you can get it in any pharmacy. I'll keep one in stock for the next time I have diarrhea
Better test it out with some Taco Bell
I like Pedialyte in a pinch too. Drank that while doing a colonoscopy prep and it helped me feel so much better.

Pvt. Joe Bowers: What are these electrolytes? Do you even know?
Secretary of State: They're... what they use to make Brawndo!
Pvt. Joe Bowers: But *why* do they use them to make Brawndo?
Secretary of Defense: [raises hand after a pause] Because Brawndo's got electrolytes.
I knew I was gonna see this reference here.
Rebranding salt as electrolyte is as helpful as labeling potentially coliform bacteria as probiotic, brilliant move Logan
I’m just baffled of the confident claim of zero sugar in Prime energy drinks, only to find out its got a crap ton of Sucralose in it.
What’s the similarities? The difference is obviously the calories
I'd rather it be actual sugar. Sucralose absolutely wrecks my stomach.
@DankMemes-xq2xm it's the same stuff from those sugar-free gummy bears 😭
@@sneakytacos773 sucralose is a chlorine-based calorie-free artificial sweetener invented years after nutrasweet. They called it "Sucralose" to confuse people with "sucrose," which is table sugar. Somehow they managed to get the FDA to allow it to be used without the label "artifically sweetened" on the package the way it is for other artificial sweeteners. They did all of this sleazy marketing stuff because they didn't want to get burned the way they did with the backlash to aspartame... people don't even know stuff with sucralose HAS artificial sweetener. Sometimes they put it in foods that still have sugar, just to boost the sweetness even more.
@@sneakytacos773 both are sweet. In fact, sucralose is a lot sweeter than sucrose AKA normal sugar.
And I think letting kids ingest sucralose everyday and get used to such intense sweetness is not a good idea, since it may make it harder for them to control their sugar intake later on.
You're crushing it Brian, keep it up! Very proud of you :)

Show me one study showing that active athletic kids are lacking sugar and salt in their diet. Prime is just a more natural form a Pedialyte that has less sodium and sugar. If you are an athlete with a low calorie count with a shortage of carbs and sodium then drink something else. This guy acts like Prime's target market is Olympic Level Athletes! As an American with a high sodium and sugar intake why would this not be an acceptable hydration drink?
As a football player, what do you recommend for heavy practice?
@@494Cards Watch the video.
@@494Cards Depends on what you mean by heavy. During moderate-high intensity workouts, you would ideally consume 6-12 oz of a sports beverage containing carbohydrates and electrolytes (6-8% carb-electrolyte solution) every 15 minutes. This will help maintain blood glucose concentration while providing fuel for your muscles, and decrease the risk of dehydration and hyponatremia.
I drink two gallons of seawater every day, it’s loaded with electrolytes.
Same
It's pathetic Mr. Beast keeps trying to claim his stuff is healthy. His feastable bars were gross, so he changed the recipe to bring it in line with hersheys in terms of fat/sugar/etc. Then he partnered with Zaxby's to create a a box with a shit ton of calories. This is all a cash grab, and he literally could not care less if it's healthier. What a POS
When you say something enough times, you can convince other people it is the truth. You don't need to believe it, you don't even need to provide any basis.
So long as you say it repeatedly and with conviction- say it without showing doubt, that's all you need.
Of course he doesn’t give a shit if it’s healthier. He pumps all his money into marketing the product because he knows that’s what gets people to buy and with marketing you can say whatever you want as long as it’s what people are going to believe in order to buy.
@@Xenthera No, no. I'm saying it the other way around; I'm saying that's what *he's* doing. This is literally the method of a viral influencer who pushes products. Because unless you're severely over hydrated there is no harm in drinking more (clean) water
The movie "Idiocracy" is becoming a reality! Soon, farmers will start watering their crops with these products because they contain electrolytes.
It's been a reality for a bit now
As a teacher in one of the top-performing schools in my state... it's a reality *now*. Kids in 10th grade don't even know how to add -6 + 2 without a calculator (well, maybe the AP kids do). They can't slow themselves down enough to read more than like 5 words on a page before becoming distracted by the phone constantly in their laps that we are no longer allowed to take away. Pretty much the only way to get them to follow even the simplest of instructions is to include icons/emojis with everything (like that hospital scene in Idiocracy).
If I had a nickel for every time some boomer online said this I would be richer than Logan Paul.

I heard Logan Paul’s lawyer drinks prime and isn’t properly hydrated to properly litigate on behalf of his client.
As someone with POTS, getting sodium into my system and drinking a bunch of water to artificially raise my blood level is my day-to-day. And obviously over salting my food gets old so I began looking at alternatives to put in my drinks to make it easier to get my sodium intake. And when I looked at electrolyte drinks I was SHOCKED. So many of them lacked sodium, and that some of the ones that did have sodium had so much that I couldn’t drink two without going over MY prescribed sodium intake, much less the average person’s.
Logan Paul going full Dunning-Kruger trying to talk down to Dr. Brian
History lesson - Gatorade was originally developed at the University of Florida as a product of their sports medicine team in conjunction with other departments. The point was to develop a scientifically based product that would replenish the electrolytes of their football players in full pads during the excruciating Florida preseasons.
Great summation at the end, Doc. On point as usual. 👍🏼

In what way? Most people that say this don't seem to understand the point of the film.
I don't really care about anything related to internet celebs, but I really appreciate the information shared. Esp as someone who drinks Gatorade often despite not being physically active. The problem is for me, I have had issues with drinking water for a while now, so I need it with flavor to not feel nauseous. I blame it partially on the fact I've been through chemotherapy, but my nausea was more recently so that might not be it. Thanks for sharing!
@@auscaliber1 Electrolytes are ions and salts are ionic compounds.
Any ion is an electrolyte.
Sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, ammonium, chloride, bromide, iodide, hydroxide are electrolytes.
So are iron2+ and iron3+ or copper+ or copper2+ or even mercury2+ and if we talk about anion, PF6- is an electrolyte, OH- is one, carbonate is another one, sulfate is yet another one, nitrate, fluoride, tetrafluoborate, tetraphenylborate, etc.
As a endurance marathon athlete, who needs the extra electrolytes and sodium, I ditched the PRIME, Gatorade, and switched to plain coconut water and whole milk, and I feel so much better and recover faster. Also on top of that when I'm at peak training, I add pink salt to all my meals.
