  • Using Freecad to create a hexagon meshed sphere using tools from both FreeCAD part workbench and Part Design. We will also introduce a new workbench that extends the primitive objects to include pyramids and polyhedrons . Easy beginners FreeCAD tutorial using basic modelling skills. No code or macro involved

I have been trying to make a soccer ball and was failing. This now makes it too easy.

Hello and thank you for your videos.
I tried to redo your procedure in order to recover all the faces before making the extrusion which respects the normal directions.
Unfortunately, with FreeCAD0.21 it doesn't seem to work anymore.
    Is this correct?
    Thanks in advance.

Time to 3d print that. This’ll test your 3d printers retraction and skip features. 👍👍🇺🇸

Great video. However, it would be good if you changed the title because I must admit that when I read the title, I thought to myself "here's someone else who thinks it's possible to have a curved surface with only hexagons."

I've seen you do add thickness in another video. Could you have just added a thickness to the binder, then cut the extrusions? Keep up the great teaching.

Unfortunately you cant as you will get an error with the 3D part offset, But what you can get some really cool effects playing with the multiple offset values of shape binder which creates 2D offsets.

How on earth did you figure this out?1?! Well done and very appreciated.

Lol, I woke up during the middle of the night with the solution. I have had quite a lot of realisation moments like that. Most people normally go off to the realms of unicorns and pink dinosaurs, I end up dreaming in morphing geometry lol

Can you somehow hide the lines that appear on the surface of the sphere or cylinder so that it looks better.

You can rotate the sphere before the cut so it's less visual but if you change the view style then all the edges will disappear. It doesn't 3D print the line it's just visual. But I agree it's a bit annoying.

You more than welcome. Some ideas .... well it's getting near the festive season so maybe a decoration for the tree. Or some geo domes in architecture :)

You need this when you happen to want to 3d print a Factorio lab.
In "some" circles, this happens a lot.
