My cat simply refused to eat soft canned food, but will eat Science Diet hairball and urinary food every 12 hours. I did give fresh chicken and fresh salmon as treats. Only needed 2 units every 12 hours. And was stable on 2 units. The cat never weighed more than 11 lbs ever!

Welcome back! A Hill's dry food veterinarian said she attended a a lecture where they said ANY canned food is better than dry for helping cats with early diabetes. Cats can go into remission almost immediately. She feeds cats that are boarded at her practice k/d WET food. Chaga mushrooms help prevent diabetes. "Their Oxygen radical absorbance capacity is 52,000. Blueberries are at 5,000. Chaga is the most potent antioxidant available. It is anti-inflammatory and helps prevent diabetes." I hope you enjoyed your time off. Did Jericho miss you?

Yes absolutely! I'm glad they said that at the lecture. That moisture is so important for all cats. But especially the low carb. And we all know how high dry food is in carbs lol
I did enjoy my time off - thank you! Jericho was passed out when I got back, and John had to wake him up lol But then he came trotting to the door to say hi to me. Lots of purrs 😻 he couldn't wait to get in bed to cuddle lol

Welcome back and thank you so much for another great video packed with important information and convenient links! One of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes years ago after noticing him walking flat legged/feet (loss of muscle strength). I was totally caught by surprise since I had 6 other cats eating the same diet and no one else had it and it was my first and the only diabetic cat so far. They were mainly eating premium wet food but also some dry food (I didn't know any better as so many cat parents😢) Vet told me to get him off dry food and put him on a daily insulin shot. Luckily he completely recovered and was able to get off insulin and lived many years after until he passed at 19 years old. I always encourage other cat & dog parents, if you can't afford to do anything else, please FEED WET FOOD and DON'T FEED DRY FOOD, period.

Wow! 19 years that's amazing! You're right to point out that every cat is an individual. And def - wet food over dry food if that's the best we can do!

Happy to have you back! We’ve been loving the complete line for cats from Viva Raw. What treats do you recommend? (I know one protein freeze dried ones are great but what brands do you trust?)
Purin, my cat, is also staying away from chicken, turkey and beef at the moment to figure out the source of her allergies (I add the supplement Viva suggested for allergies, as I do not feel comfortable giving her Zyrtec every day.) She is having rabbit and duck.
    Thank you!!

Hi, i"m in France and i discovered your videos and i love your work. I have a diabetic cat, name's Nemo, he's a ragdoll, i adopted him when his owner dumped him in my friend clinic to put him down, because diabete, my vet friend says no no, and called me....I had a diabetic dog during ten years, i loved him so much, but cats is completly different !!!!
I have 15 cats, all rescue but very healthy, Nemo has a libre link captor, so i can see his Glycemia all the time on my phone, very handy !!!!
Regarding the raw meal, here"s my issue : Nemo is a glouton, he love his meal but he refuses the raw, even if i mixed with his wet food ( diabetic formula and urinary support ), he selects and the raw food stays in his plate !!!
Have you an advice for me, my vet says he's stubborn as hell , true !, i spoiled him too much to console him for his abandon, sure !!! He's 8 years old, remission not happen but still i want to give him his best chance so....i hope
    Sorry for my bad english
    Kinds regards from France

When I stopped feeding my two cats carbs, no dry food, they went back to no diabetes. Wet canned food 2X a day, no kibble. Kibble is poison to cats. When I did give the kibble up until both 5 yrs old, they threw up a lot, didn't look as well. I don't feed raw food, too many bad things that can come from that. Both lived to 16 and sister cat 18. Both were happy with wet food 2 times a day. They are not like dogs, dogs can eat kibble and are omnivores like us. Cats are carnivores, meat only. I use to give them treats of cooked chicken or turkey, which I would take dark meat only (they usually don't like breast meat) and break into pieces and bag a weeks worth. Freeze, then throw in refrigerator on Sunday for the week. Happy cats, healthy cats.

My cat isn't diabetic but I want to feed him better! Right now, I can only really afford beef liver, ground beef from the farmer's market, leftover chicken from carcass, and canned sardines. I also have some frozen deer meat. Can I feed any of these raw to my cat? Does liver have too much vitamin A for his small body? Right now, he's on grain-free dry + wet.

My cat just got diagnosed and his Blood Glucose was high at 27. Our vet said to get him on insulin right away. Having suffered from Pancreatitis in July 2023, I wish I was proactive and watched his glucose level myself to make sure the insulin the pancreas was working with was sufficient while he was recovering. What ANNOYS me the most is the food the vet has is all high carb hydrolized cat foot in Dry (Hills ZD wet and dry) , as well as the Royal Canin which has corn starch I found out and is 40% carbs.
I wish they had asked me to come in or even suggested it. Frustrating. Is it me or are most vets oblivious to nutrition? i have my cat on Rayne Kangaroo Maintenance which works for both pancreas and diabetes

"All life stages" food is probably too high in calcium, phosphorus and sodium for older cats and especially for cats with diabetes, or urinary tract issues. Jericho really wanted his screen time! LOL

My 6 year old cat just had blood work done and has 70% kidney loss. I'm at a loss, he's 6 I had no idea. I wanted blood work at his annual appointment because he had been throwing up and drinking a lot. I have been thrown for a loop and I have been reading everything watching everything but I am EXTREMELY confused now.
    Do you have any recommendations?

My understanding from what I’ve read is the basics should be: Wet food with a dry matter basis of at least 50% or more protein (FROM ANIMAL SOURCES), ~30% fat, and LESS THAN 10% CARBS.
