Also they hide the fact that hotels are actually long, so you see only the most expensive rooms facing The Strip. If you book the cheapest, or middle prized room, you will probably end up facing a parking lot or a highway the opposite side of the Strip. Be careful when booking in those hotels.

In most cases you can specifically book a room with a certain view. They're a little more expensive than the regular rooms as you said, but they allow you to choose if you want. Our first visit we stayed at the Venetian for a really high priced suite that wasn't advertised with a view; nice looking room but the view out the window was literally of a wall. Second trip we stayed at the Flamingo, spent maybe a little less for a room that was just okay by itself, but we had a perfect view of the Bellagio Fountains.

Living in SoCal, I’ve been to Vegas many times as it’s a short flight. The first time I went years ago, we stayed at the Stratosphere & thought it would be a short walk to get to Mandalay. It took almost 2 hours & we didn’t want to walk anymore for the rest of the trip, but it was still fun being there w/ friends when we weren’t even 21 yet.
We walked around the Strip. It wasn’t bad. But we’re from the Country, so walking is kinda what we do! 😉 And no, little strolls around the central areas is fine, but if you try walking any real distance, it is NOT pedestrian-friendly.
The shocking thing was the construction and the way the streets are put together, it's actually outright hostile to pedestrians walking in some places. Like you have to risk getting hit by cars to get around if you don't want to take a taxi.
@@compmanio36 Can’t blame them, really. I’ve seen ‘city-folks’ insist on calling a cab or taking a bus just to go two blocks! The Strip is deceptively long, even in a straight line.
I walked from Fremont street to the Excalibur stopping twice firstly by the hungover photograph sign then twice more towards top end once at the flamingo and another somewhere near bellagio I think. Now that really was a pilgrimage for sure. 🤦🏻♂️💀💪🏻🫡👍🏻🏴
This explains so much about my first trip to Vegas as a kid. I almost got heat stroke and my brother’s converse started to melt from the asphalt. Little poop wanted a cup from EVERY casino on the strip and my Dad said sure! Let’s WALK IT. In summer. In 107 degree heat. Some very very very kind bartender took one look at me when we walked in somewhere and got me a HUGE thing of water because apparently my little 10 year old face was red 🥵 My Mom said later they should have known I was dying because I was quiet. I’m never quiet!
The prices can actually be incredibly reasonable. Especially if you go during the week. I go because I live in the Los Angeles area. Hotels out here are crazy expensive and they never go down. Vegas is a quick getaway from LA, it’s 1/4 of the prices of hotels in Southern California. There’s great shopping and dining and entertainment. I don’t gamble. I also never leave on a Sunday because I’m pretty sure that 75% of the people there are also from California and heading home after the weekend. It has taken me 8-12 hours to get home on what is normally under 4 hours to drive. Traffic can be horrendous.
You’re joking right? Las vegas hotels are some of the cheapest I’ve stayed and nicer than most hotels I’ve been to. I’m literally going this weekend and was able to get a room at the Strat for $65/night. In my hometown, a typical hotel would cost about $140 and its not even half as nice. Vegas hotels are generally cheap because they want you to spend your money to gamble. Unless you go to a really nice one like Venitian, then maybe like $200/night for the cheapest room.
FYI the Vegas strip is 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, so if you're going to walk around, wear some comfy shoes with cushion insoles, carry your heels in your bag and change out for photos. (Ex Las Vegas resident) Also, in summer, don't wear thin cheaply made rubber flip-flops/slides as the temperatures get well into the triple digits and will melt easily on the concrete. Bring lots of water and be kind to hotel staff, especially the houseman and maids because constantly cleaning vomit out of elevators/lifts, off hotel lobby floors and sht stained/blood stained, vomit stained linens/towels is not fun. Have fun, follow the laws, please wear clothes when answering your hotel room door (again there are still laws), what goes on in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. ❤
Went to Las Vegas first time for my 23rd birthday with my girl for a week in November. we literally walked that whole strip because everything looks so close and walkable and even walked out to the outskirts about 30-45 minutes walking distance from the strip when it’s sketchy out there but still did it and got to see everything vegas had to offer. Ended up buying a bus pass the last 2 days and that bus will take you everywhere, definitely recommended.
My first time going Vegas, the buses were awesome, second time I went, it was absolute horrendous. Took 2 hours for 1 bus to come and road work every where so bus stops move to different locations
I like it, it just shows the sheer massiveness of the place. Plus, if you think of it, most castles were the same way, they were supposed to look big and intimidating.
I refuse to walk around in Vegas because the windows intimidate me. My first visit there, I hid inside my room for like 3 days! I wouldn’t talk to nobody, my kids were crying, it was a disaster!
You're more likely to get assaulted by someone trying to sell you something than a pickpocket. Here's another good tip for avoiding people like that. Get a Golden Knights shirt or cap. Wear it around when you don't want to be bothered and just ignore everyone. I once walked past a group of guys stationed on one of the pedestrian bridges trying to catch people to funnel them to a timeshare thing. One of them tried picking me out of the crowd and he comes up to me with the old "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" They always try to get you to stop with personal questions, like if you're with your spouse they'll ask something like "How long have you two been together?" I used to try to lie to them and tell them that my flight was leaving in the afternoon, but I've heard that they hear that excuse all the time and they still pressure you to do the timeshare thing anyway. That day I was wearing my Golden Knights hat, and I didn't want to deal with them, so I just ignored him entirely. As I was walking away, I hear him say, "Oh, you're a local. Never mind." Also on the Timeshare thing, if you ever do get suckered into one (because these people are totally soulless, they'll tell you anything to get you in the door. They like to hire third party people now to tell you that they don't work for any one resort but for the city itself, which is a total lie, and that it totally isn't a timeshare thing, which as also a total lie. It's gotten so shady nowadays.) Just keep reminding yourself that it's always a scam and never worth your money, and most importantly that time is always on your side. Every second they waste on you trying to scam you out of your money is one second that they aren't out scamming a more gullible dope out of their money instead. Call their bluff. It might take an hour, but they'll give you your free shit eventually.
@@whitworth5s248 unrelated but also not unrelated i guess, the Golden Knights presence in Vegas is ridiculous. I've never seen a team loved by so many locals. You won't even find that in Boston or Toronto which are two of the most hardcore fanbases right now. Yeah, a lot of Bruins and Leafs jerseys come out on game day, but Vegas had Golden Knights stuff everywhere every day, and game day was something else.
@@whitworth5s248 I use the timeshare folk for my own entertainment. I hate staying in the same place every time, and a timeshare of any kind is NOT an investment property. It’s a loss every year until you get sick of it and unload it at a deep discount. So I let them blather away at me while drinking their drinks and eating their food, thoroughly engaged and having a good time with them. I know I won’t purchase, but they don’t. So it’s fun to let them try to make me. I can drag it out as long as a movie, and then just pull the plug and walk away. No guilt if your job is primarily pressuring suckers to make unwise purchases.
This trick was invented over 150 years ago by Philadelphia City Hall in 1871, which looks like a 3 story building, but was actually 548ft tall (Equivalent to 54 stories if each floor were 10ft), and it was the tallest building in the world for 14 years, after taking 30 years to build. When it claimed the title of worlds tallest building, it was nearly DOUBLE the height of the world’s previous tallest building, but actually looked tiny due to window illusion, and by occupying such a large land-area (like the Vegas hotels).. Fun fact!

Lol this is very true.if you loot at MGM you might think that it is possible to jump from one level to the next like a small balcony .when you go really close you realize that every balcony level is actually 3,4 levels.
I've been in Vegas for the past 10 days having a blast, I fell for the walking but it's not the worst if you have time - its like 45 min from the middle to the south of the strip
I love walking the Strip. The heat can get to you, but most of the resorts, especially those on the central part of the strip, are close enough together that you only need to be out in the sun for a few minutes at a time. Ducking into casinos even if you have no desire to gamble is an absolute must on a hot day.
Why does this mean don't walk around? We had a great time walking around. In some areas, like up by where the famous fountains are, crossing the street can be confusing, gotta go over these walkway things. But it's beautiful out and full of interesting people. Definitely recommend walking around in Vegas.
I worked at Excalibur. It is like a penitentiary. The employees have to come in and go through a dungeon. And we're not allowed to leave on oue lunch and we are forced to donate to charities we don't want to through intimidation and mandatory forms to fill out.
@@LASVEGASREALTOR Sounds like a Las Vegas thing though, Excalibur is owned by MGM so I can assume all MGM hotels in Vegas operate on the same principles?
But, i've been to vegas so many times and walking the strip is always the best part of the trip, seeing the Hershey's store and the M&m store, going on new york new york. Walking is the best part of the strip. It is long but rather pretty
My tour guide in las Vegas did tell us not to try explore other hotels and I guess this was the reason, that they are further than you think and the walkways aren't made for exploring. I remember trying to go to the one next door then looking at the time and thinking better not.
The only thing people should be aware of is the Taxi/Lyft/Uber locations are mad stupid yo! The drop off and pick-ups are on opposite sides of the hotels/casino. If you find yourself on the wrong side, you might as well cancel because they won’t wait for you to walk 15 minutes through a hotel/casino.
Thank you for sharing an actual tip that is really good to know and keep in mind so you can plan and navigate those better. So many comments on here are just people bitching but nothing constructive to be helpful. You tip is helpful!
i’ve lived here my whole life and love seeing people underestimate how overwhelming the strip can be lol i’m used to it by now but when i was a kid even i knew that the perspectives were designed to fuck with you
For anyone who has actually stayed at one of the bigger strip casinos, you realize exactly how massive they are as you try to navigate the inside of one, much less from one casino to the next. I enjoy walking around the strip, but the distance is definitely not to be underestimated, especially if you wanted to cross the street. During the fall/winter when it is cool outside, walking a couple miles to visit some of the cool shops, see some of the attractions, take the trams, etc is awesome. I would not want to do it in the summer though. Even if you are just going a few casinos over, it's worth it to just take a cab (tip your driver a few bucks for making such a short trip) if you are drunk, in a hurry, or it's just too damn hot out.
I live in Vegas. I’ve walked the strip in winter, spring, summer, and fall, so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to how comfortable it is to walk a mile in this city. And while I can’t answer for everyone, I can answer from the standpoint of someone young and in good shape/health. Walking in Vegas can be brutal, and it can also be nice. It really all depends on what time of the year you plan on trekking that mile here. See, in Vegas, we don’t technically have a spring or fall… it’s basically winter from November-March, with lows ranging from 30-40 degrees F and daytime highs from 40-50 degrees F. And summer is basically April to October when the LOW temperatures can range from the high 70s-mid 90s (meaning it could be a tolerable 75 F one night or 96 F a different night.) I don’t know about you, but I think most people would consider 96 F at night too hot. And that’s just the LOWS I’m referring to. Summer daytime highs can easily reach 116 - 120 F. Some people say, oh, it’s not that bad… because you guys have a dry heat. Well, anyone who has lived in Vegas or has visited enough in the summer knows that we also have a monsoon summer season here which usually starts in late July and lasts through the end of September. Summer monsoon season in Vegas is not like the dry, hot summer that most people think it’s like here. In reality, it can be downright unbearable, and here’s why. During monsoon season, the LOWEST nighttime temperatures in Vegas can sometimes be 96 F with high humidity, and the reason for this is because of the monsoon-induced moisture that forms cloud cover… which acts as a giant insulating blanket, keeping all the heat from the daytime trapped below, well after the sun has set. The geography of Vegas also adds to the heat retention, which doesn’t help. Las Vegas lies within the Mojave Desert. The giant mountain ranges surrounding the Las Vegas Valley are mostly made up of sandstone or limestone rock which bakes for hours in the scorching heat of the daytime, acting as an oven to heat us even more. Hot desert winds pick up a ton of dirt and sand and can quickly turn into gnarly dust storms. NASA did a study recently where they heat-mapped Vegas from space during the summer of 2022 (you can Google it) to show just how hot the surface streets of the city can get, if you’re still a skeptic. During the monsoon season is when we mainly get the oppressive humidity and also when Vegas receives most of its annual rainfall (which is a meager 4.5 inches a year!) Additionally, it’s during this time of the year when we get insane thunder and lightning storms mixed with crazy flash flooding. So with all that being said and taken into consideration, when you combine the humidity of the monsoon season with the extreme summer heat and possible dust storms, walking a mile down the strip is not something I would recommend during this time of year for anyone -fit or not. You’ll be sweaty, gross, tired, cranky, possibly covered with bits of desert dirt (depending on the winds), and more than anything, annoyed with trying to walk a mile through crowds of people, traffic, and pure craziness. All the while thinking… “OH MY GOD, I CANT WAIT TO GET BACK TO MY AIR CONDITIONED HOTEL!!!” And for most people who are just trying to enjoy themselves while on vacation, it’s easy to see why many people end up opting for an Uber or a taxi instead. So while yes, you CAN walk a mile down the strip, you have to ask yourself: is it worth it? Winter/Spring, I’d say yes. It won’t be that hard, and you’ll mostly have a decent mile-long walk. Summer before monsoon season, maybe… but it probably won’t be too enjoyable. As for Summer during the monsoon season, HELLS TO THE NO. Unless you’re a bit crazy and you enjoy the feeling of dying. Again it’s really all dependent on what time of the year you end up visiting Las Vegas and what the weather is forecasted to be like, which will play a significant role in whether or not you decide to walk a mile down the strip.
Got major Oceans 11 vibes from this due to names and looks of buildings. One day would love to travel to see someday🇬🇧. P.S I know the buildings in the 3 movie series are based on real ones, it’s just nice to see what they look like irl.
I’m a Vegas native, spent most of my life living there. The first time I ever walked up and down the entire strip was when I was 8 years old. I’ve done it several times since then. Pro tip: wear sunscreen and carry your own water with you. Watch your pockets. If you’ve never been, you may want to explore it and take a week off. But there is plenty to see outside of the strip that is just as entertaining and less expensive! So don’t forget that. However, it’s not my favorite city. It stays hot from early-mid April all the way to late October-early November. Unless you like dry heat, I would recommend visiting in winter or spring. Not autumn though, because you could experience a far better Autumn somewhere else where there’s actually trees that change color everywhere, unlike Vegas. The buffets usually do live up to their reputations. And if you enjoy the outdoors go check out Floyd Lamb park or the nature reserve. Maybe even hike Mount Charleston or go to Goldstrike canyon. There’s lots of underrated things to see out in Nevada.
I know how far everything is but sometimes just down for the torture. When I checked out resorts world for first time I decided to walk back to vdara. My feet will never do that again. At least not in the summer.
These comments are confusing. Did people not grasp that the point of the video was to explain why the buildings appear to be closer together when they’re actually quite far. The windows create the illusion of a smaller building, therefore, with perspective, they appear to be closer. So, what you believe to be a ten minute walk might actually be a forty five minute walk.
Walking around Vegas, esp at night, is one of the best things you can do on that trip. It really should be one of the wonders of the world… this amazing place basically built in the desert
You should definitely walk around Las Vegas. The Strip anyway... there are a lot of places you shouldn't walk around in Vegas, but it has nothing to do with windows.
Wow I would probably walk forever without noticing. I frequently explore cities by walking around and 8-10 miles a day is pretty normal for me while window shopping.
Also a reason why most if not all hotel/motel windows with more than a couple stories have windows that don't open is to prevent people from taking their own lives

Ha! I walked from Venetian/Palazzo once to MGM. 😫 One of the dumbest things I've ever done. And it was hot af that day and I forgot to bring water.
I walked from Fremont street to the Excalibur stopping twice firstly by the hungover photograph sign then twice more towards top end once at the flamingo and another somewhere near bellagio I think. Now that really was a pilgrimage for sure. 🤦🏻♂️💀💪🏻🫡👍🏻🏴
Thats about a 2 mile walk

This explains so much about my first trip to Vegas as a kid. I almost got heat stroke and my brother’s converse started to melt from the asphalt. Little poop wanted a cup from EVERY casino on the strip and my Dad said sure! Let’s WALK IT. In summer. In 107 degree heat.
Some very very very kind bartender took one look at me when we walked in somewhere and got me a HUGE thing of water because apparently my little 10 year old face was red 🥵
My Mom said later they should have known I was dying because I was quiet. I’m never quiet!
Ahhh the visuals. Thanks for sharing! 💧
The way the windows look aren't what makes you feel uncomfortable. It's the cost of the rooms that make you feel uncomfortable!
Hotels on the strip can be pretty cheap
That and the overall deception of Vegas. Lol Idk why ppl go especially repeat...
😂
Being old and wise, it's nice to learn something new that I never even thought about before. Thanks
I noticed the windows were weird I just never knew the reason, thank you for educating!!
you’re welcome!

Walking the trip is fun af. Safe your money from gambling and just walk around. Coming from a born and raised local.
FYI the Vegas strip is 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, so if you're going to walk around, wear some comfy shoes with cushion insoles, carry your heels in your bag and change out for photos. (Ex Las Vegas resident)
Also, in summer, don't wear thin cheaply made rubber flip-flops/slides as the temperatures get well into the triple digits and will melt easily on the concrete. ❤

That's crazy. I was just in Vegas for the first time and that totally makes sense. I never realized how ugly the excalibur windows were
❤️😀Awesome Vegas Video! Keep up the Great Hard Work! 💯💯💯
After seeing the Excalibur--I prefer the illusion hotels. If you put all the individual windows it looks crazy.
Excalibur is a dump inside, though, and smells like rancid coconut. It needs to be demolished.
I like it, it just shows the sheer massiveness of the place. Plus, if you think of it, most castles were the same way, they were supposed to look big and intimidating.
I was asked to rate your comment specifically lol
@zionistjewish9513 the Excaliber smelled like horse stables and potpourri
It's also to give the effect of the rooms looking much bigger than they are lol
That's the ONLY reason they do it. It has nothing to do with "looking intimidating."
I refuse to walk around in Vegas because the windows intimidate me. My first visit there, I hid inside my room for like 3 days! I wouldn’t talk to nobody, my kids were crying, it was a disaster!
If you're from NYC, this is a normal day walking from work to home or to the park.
A tip for walking the strip: keep your eyes open and don’t let people get up in your face and start talking to you, that’s when you lose your wallet.
They make pickpocket proof pants now
You're more likely to get assaulted by someone trying to sell you something than a pickpocket.
One of them tried picking me out of the crowd and he comes up to me with the old "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" They always try to get you to stop with personal questions, like if you're with your spouse they'll ask something like "How long have you two been together?"
I used to try to lie to them and tell them that my flight was leaving in the afternoon, but I've heard that they hear that excuse all the time and they still pressure you to do the timeshare thing anyway. That day I was wearing my Golden Knights hat, and I didn't want to deal with them, so I just ignored him entirely. As I was walking away, I hear him say, "Oh, you're a local. Never mind."
Also on the Timeshare thing, if you ever do get suckered into one (because these people are totally soulless, they'll tell you anything to get you in the door.
Don’t stop for anyone
This makes so much sense now. Walked the whole strip and was like that was way longer than it looked!

Fun fact!

I love walking the Strip. The heat can get to you, but most of the resorts, especially those on the central part of the strip, are close enough together that you only need to be out in the sun for a few minutes at a time. Ducking into casinos even if you have no desire to gamble is an absolute must on a hot day.

Las Vegas has some beautiful architecture.
Why does this mean don't walk around? We had a great time walking around. In some areas, like up by where the famous fountains are, crossing the street can be confusing, gotta go over these walkway things. But it's beautiful out and full of interesting people. Definitely recommend walking around in Vegas.
The engineering behind these buildings are insane, and to also incorporate an illusion just makes it all the more impressive.

You tip is helpful!

i’ve lived here my whole life and love seeing people underestimate how overwhelming the strip can be lol i’m used to it by now but when i was a kid even i knew that the perspectives were designed to fuck with you
this is a true locals comment
Okay, dully noted. I will never go outside again to walk around.
My wife loves the Tuscany Casino and Hotel on Flamingo.
They're like mini apartments and a just right size with some very good restaurants.
“Penitentiary Style!”…😂😂😂
I’ll have to remember that trick (I’m an architect).
“Wild mega shit.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
We walked from the Treasure Island to New York and it took a long time, but it was fun!
