I kinda get why some people are complaining about "being a PDA while an NPC does the 'fun stuff'", but I'm all for experimentation in games. These mechanics allow for a very different kind of experience. If you're interested, you could also take a look into the game Observation.
Not surprised by the "this looks boring comments" below. This is a game for people with an actual vivid imagination, so not a lot of people, hence it being niche
Even if you have vivid imagination some people need more visual cues like flashy effects, symbolism and abstract and/or beautiful art direction to imagine. Others like the people you mentioned may only need a story or a soundtrack but that doesn't make others who can't do the same any less creative.

I feel like your missing the point a bit. I get what you say about reading and imagining the world within and people can have the same experience with games but that doesn’t apply to this one. The reason why people say it’s boring isn’t because of how much text their is or how we never see the alien life but because the main gameplay is you just clicking nodes to walk around and not much happening.
I found this game through Amos Rodney, the person that did the soundtrack. They also did the soundtrack for the Kingdom games (Kingdom Two Crowns, New Lands) which I recommend you listen to if you liked the soundtrack. Very underrated.
Looks quite good. Might wait for them to maybe patch in a change to the dialogue/objective history thing; I would be badly lost coming back to this after any amount of time away.

I’d love a game where you play as a crappy video game UI and there’s an annoyance meter for the “character” as you make obnoxious notifications and put tons of bullshit up on the HUD
This reminds me a lot of *LIFELINE* (android) which is very deep and VERY interesting for an app/game. Its an immersive game about guiding an astronaut through dangers...
Yeah, this game isn't for everyone. It's essentially an interactive speculative evolution project, with a story about environmentalism to give some meaning and drive. It's completely awesome if you're into spec-ev or biology in general, as I am, but if you're not interested in biological descriptions of alien lifeforms give this one a pass.
"Review copy provided by the publisher" It just doesn't really feel like you will say anything critical if that's the case. I don't think I will continue watching escapist reviews if this is what they are.

I lack imagination and chose against purchasing this game. (I'm not saying it's bad)
