- The brothers Gibb, Barry (9/1/1946) and twins Maurice and Robin (12/22/1949) were born on the Isle Of Man to Hugh and Barbara Gibb. The family moved to Manchester, England shortly after and remained there and the brothers formed a music group called the Rattlesnakes just before the family relocated to Australia. Using their vocal talents to perform at various venues, they were hired to work at the Redcliffe Speedway racetrack singing on the back of a truck that slowly drive around the track while patrons threw loose change at them. Australian DJ Bill Gates championed the bros and renamed them the BG's, using the initials of the oldest brother, Barry Gibb. They had their first TV appearance in 1960 and got a record deal in 1963 with Festival Records. By 1965, label interest in the group faded and the brothers decided to return to England. Daddy Gibb sent demo tapes to Beatles manager Brian Epstein who got Robert Stigwood interested in handling their affairs. He devised a promotional program that included releasing "New York Mining Disaster 1941" on a 45 that had no artist listed, and DJ's believing that it was the latest single from the Beatles, pushing the song into the top 20 UK and #14 US. They began a run of Top 40 US hits that culminated with the chart topping "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" that spent four weeks at #1 in 1971. By that time, the Bee Gees were fighting each other and one brother would exit the group and then return to the fold. Their career stalled until Arif Marden and Stigwood lit a fire under them telling them to listen to what US radio was playing. A move to Miami cemented the new direction they were taking and the "Mr Natural" album opened them up to a new sound. The bros were excited about this, and set about working on their next LP, "Main Course" that ignited their spectacular career in the 70's. The first single issued was the #1 pop hit "Jive Talkin'" and it was followed up by "Nights On Broadway" a #7 pop hit. The new combination of falsetto vocals and funky soul tunes hit big and even gave them a firm hold on the R&B charts. The slow paced middle eight was omitted on the single, but some radio stations still played the full version. Did you know that Stigwood originally wanted "Stayin' Alive" to have the same arrangement? Barry in his wisdom nixed the idea of breaking the song to include a tender interlude, because he felt it would kill the energy. I can only surmise that he did not want to repeat himself, but his reasoning about not breaking the beat was bang on.
AWESOME Re-mix,DJDiscoCatV2 !! The BEST I've heard yet on this song ,which is my favorite Bee Gees song!!

I like the drum beat best
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Yes that is MAURICE singing the falsetto part at the middle to the end of this song. Just like his older brother BARRY does. MAURICE was an important brother to the trio, he did a lot of the set up of the music. He had a good ear for different tunes of the music. I loved MAURICE, I LOVED HIS SMILE AND HIS FUNNY JOKES
The closeness of these brothers made this era of music special.
Their harmony is incredibly amazing. They are really much better than Beatles with more variety of voices more sophistic attractive and professional ❤❤❤❤❤
This generation has NO CLUE....Unless they appreciate Good music and a Real Beat!!!!
When this song was new in 1975, I was completely indifferent to it. With age - one hopes at least - you can accrue a modicum of wisdom; that said, and with no dumb nostalgia clouding my sensibility, I now hear this song as a pop masterpiece. Sometimes, youth truly is wasted on the young...
So on the mark. I am now mature enough to recognize the incredible songwriting and vocal talent of these brothers that I lacked when I was growing up.
Lol. Indifferent to it? Completely? How??😆🤣
@@darrenduncan1674 even though I was vehemently Van Halen -AC/DC, and part of the anti-disco backlash that was popular in the day, I must admit I was not indifferent to it; it had a sweet spot on my ear.
@@darrenduncan1674 I was in the 5th grade, and was a KISS super-fan, so I guess the Bee Gees weren't on my radar at the time...?
@@stevechabalik6985 I figured it had to have something to do with juvenile close mindedness. Lol. 👍
This shaped me in 8th grade,,for life..a MASTERPIECE..the Gibb brothers were genius musicians
The Bee Gees are timeless!! Their songwriting alone is spectacular! Their extensive catalog speaks for itself. Nice job!
Yup. The talent it takes to write a really great pop song like this is underappreciated. If it was so easy that it should be discounted, then why don't more singers and songwriters do it? Do they not like money? Do they shrink from the prospect of fame? No, they can't do it. Really fine pop songs like this or (looking at the youtube suggestions to the right as I type this) Too Late To Turn Back Now by Cornelius Bros. & Sister Rose should be appreciated.
one of the greatest songs ever written in the history of music
I TOTALLY agree with you on that 👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
4:25 I just love Maurice’s voice in this song . Loved 🥰 him ! RIP beautiful man ! ❤

What an absolutely incredible chorus!!!
RIP Dennis Bryon (14 April 1949 - 14 November 2024) the disco-era drummer for the Bee Gees.
Great song amazing harmony Barry’s high voice makes it more special ❤
Maurice sang the falsetto...
@@scuderiazane4723 Only during live performances. This is Barry
They could have written a whole other song just off of that bridge beginning at 5:36. Awesome talent. Those guys really left their mark on this old world.

Una delle canzoni più belle dei Gibbs! Velata malinconia e spazialità! Grandi
I heard "Nights on Broadway" at the grocery store and it brought back so many awesome memories of my childhood in the sensational '70s. I came home, searched on TH-cam and found this Disco Purrfection version and it is simply AMAZING!!! The beautiful music of the Bee Gees is truly timeless.🎤🎹🎧👍

I can't stop playing this song since Robin passed away, his voice is haunting, hard to say if this is their best there are so many. Hang in there singing Barry, your the music of our lives, the love in our hearts and the vehicle to express it to the ones we love and to ourselves.
Folks,The Jonas Brothers WISH they could sound like this! The Brothers Gibb had the family band sound down cold back in the day! Nuff said! Period!!

@DJDiscoCatV2, how is it possible that you did the best mixes of my all time favorite songs? Love's Theme, Alone Again (Naturally), Goodnight Tonight, and Nights On Broadway... Incredible
Great, great !!👍 👌 😊
WOW
Forever Bee Gees 👏👏🎧
Great tune that's never played.♥
I have a friend telling me how this band he knew started eyeing to add this track in their program. Soon enough they started to realize how complex the instrumentations were. They quit even before they could deal with the vocals part.
Well, even Barry himself stated that this is probably the hardest to sing among their line-up.
I agree very well.
Awesome vocal range of him from the deepest, ground-pounding register, to the stratospheric, high altitude falsetto vocal acrobatic rifts!
No band has ever equalled them in that uniqueness department.
Barry made the falsetto sound MUSCULAR 💥💪
Omg love it this is a fantastic version
This song is absolutely timeless. My favourite Bee Gees tune. Masterful Mix to BTW.
❤this song and this version is amazing. X
いや~~シビれるねぇ❤︎
最高です‼️‼️‼️
One of the greatest choruses ever written..
Fantastic. Just brilliant
Will forever luv The BeeGees... 💓this song. Can’t believe Barry’s the only one’s left💔
Il n'y a rien à dire qu'à écouter et apprécier une fois de plus les Bée Gees.
THANK You DJDiscoCat, for an absolutely beautifully done remix of this Bee Gee's gem!
Three musical geniuses who's talent will shine on - indefinitely...
(I'm so thankful that I got to enjoy these three amazing guys in real time...).
💙💛🌹💜🍎🇺🇸
Excellent, excellent. EXCELLENT! These dudes were SO good. Far & away the best disco band OAT, &really 1 of the top singing/songwriting acts in popular music history. Both in terms of sales &.. just raw performance.
Vocal perfection even Elvis Presley says two thumbs up 👍 👍🤩…
Spectacular
El mejor grupo del planeta tierra y la cancion que me ase alucinar de los mejores años de mi vida bee gees de los 70's y 80's
*RIP Andy, Maurice and Robin Gibb* Barry, I feel for you and your family every time a Bee Gees song plays somewhere in the world. 🎶
MIKEY I STILL LOVE THE BEE GEES I MARRIED BARRY LAST YEAR WE ARE TOGETHER BARRY IS HAVING A HARD TIME LOSING THREE BROTHERS ROBIN WAS THE LAST ANDY WAS THE FIRST AND MAURICE WOW BARRY WE LOVE YOU KEEP SINGING FOR YOUR FANS
The irony is that Barry is the oldest brother. It worked out that the youngest brother (Andy) died first, followed by Maurice and Robin, who were twins and technically both the middle child. I'm sure Barry never expected to be the oldest living Gibb brother.
Foi MEU idolo
Awesome 👍 from Rio Brazil 2022
2024...Thank you...
Absolutely great band .
I miss them good lads and from the north west of England .RIP LADS
I really miss you guys.
Dancing, singing and groovin ty
Damn, that groove with the drums and Minimoog bass is sooooo good!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👌🏾♨️🔥
Like it was yesterday. So great.
DiscoCat, however you do this - you’re super fly!
Listening to this song reminds me of my uncle Francisco (Paco)... He looked like Serpico back in the day.. We use to walk the city from Shereton Square to Times Square and catch a Bruce Lee movie on 40 deuce. He showed me the city, all the different types of people and not to judge.
Barry Gibb was the best at Glastonbury festival and strictly come dancing last year .
ALAN DID YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME SEEING SIR BARRY GIBB TELL ME WHAT SONGS DID HE DO? MARILYN NEEDS TO KNOW
How wonderful... And to think that two of these musicians are gone and in my opinion the most talented of them that was Robin...💔😢 I miss too much the times of an incredible musicality that today we do not even dream of...💖😎
I love this remix! Thank you!
Awesome ... Eutopia NYC Disco House
LOVE this! Nice extended remix throughout the verse/choruses...but that ANGELIC VOCAL HARMONY at the breakdown section...GLORIOUS!
Cat, I'm so into your current mixes that I've been remiss in listening and thrilling to your older gems.
This is another one that evokes sweet memories.
Thank you.
How could I have ever missed this original remix?! Just incredible.
