Thank you so much for doing The Miracle and Let Me In Your Heart Again, two of my favourite songs od Queen. The Miracle is highly underrated, such a beautiful song woth an adorable video. The kids were so amazing. The bandmembers were so enchanted with them they spend them a standing ovation and Freddie suggested to send them on tour for them. Let Me In Your Heart Again is such a beautiful song and a real gem. I'm glad they fixed it and released it. I can't hear any differences either it's positively seemless. And you're right Freddie will alway stay in my heart. I grew up with Queen in the 70's , I'm a fan for way over 40 years now and that won't change. I love Freddie with all my heart for being a brilliant musician, for bringing such joy, fun and passion to the world, for being a caring, kind , gentle and generous man with a heart and soul of gold. For giving everything he had until his last breath. Gone way too soon and missed every day.

There are a TON of videos on the making of “The Miracle”, ranging from behind-the-scenes footage to interviews with the kids to retrospective takes in the Queen documentaries. The kids were all actors found through open-call auditions and they were determined to get the mannerisms of their counterpart as accurate as they could manage. You can definitely see it in Freddie’s actor but the other three are also acting their tiny hearts out: John Deacon’s habit of bopping along to the song beat onstage, Roger’s drumstick twirls and Brian’s habit of pulling his guitar’s bridge up straight vertically whenever intricate fretwork is required are all faithfully copied. It was also clever to use a concept that didn’t require intense exertion from Freddie, as he was on the decline at this point, and the AZT he was taking to stave off his symptoms was not nearly effective enough to halt the toll of full-blown AIDS. HIV couldn’t be diagnosed at this point until you hit AIDS, which isn’t a disease as much as the series of symptoms and blood-markers that showed that your immune system was shutting down enough to slowly kill you. Nowadays the trick is to get on meds before you hit AIDS and then you aren’t stuck with a death-sentence or even a reduced quality of life.
Brian May is a masterful sound editor, and after the painstaking work on Made In Heaven to create a full album that sounded like Freddie had been there to make it out of about 3 full songs and quite a few scraps, this song would have been a piece of cake comparatively.
‘The Loser in the End’ is such a cynical, dark song lyrically, and it’s definitely very telling about Roger’s childhood. While he has never said more in interviews than an admittance of once being a victim of domestic violence, it’s fairly commonly accepted that he’s referencing that his dad was abusive and his mother stayed due to her lack of options. Divorce law in England is a snarled mess and I’m pretty sure that even today no-fault divorce doesn’t exist. The song reads almost feminist in message, because it’s describing the emptiness of life for housewives once the children that they’ve devoted their adult lives to are grown and leave home. It’s off their second album, and Women’s Liberation was still a work in progress when this was written. It’s fairly underrated and under-analyzed, but is surprisingly “woke” for a song written by a twenty-something year old white guy in 1974. Roger’s hidden depths.
Great series of reactions- I’d recommend trying out “Big Spender and Modern Times Rock N Roll”, as performed as one video in quick succession live at the Rainbow, any live rendition of “Look What a Fool I’ve Been”, and finishing with the B-side recorded version of “Look What a Fool I’ve Been” for a great display of Freddie’s versatility as a singer. Big Spender is just a few verses but was a staple at the end of concerts, and it’s hilarious how Freddie took what is essentially a female-sung stripper song and made it a convincing rock song, before leading into a great song written by Roger Taylor, and the two versions of “Look What a Fool I’ve Been” hardly sound like the same song on the two different versions, in the most enjoyable way possible.

And I agree with your evaluation of Let Me In Your Heart Again. It sounds seamless, & really shows their masterful editing skills. As for Loser In The End, you can always count on Roger to really rock. Does he have a thing for shoes? Just watch what he wears in some of the photos...pretty cool.

You were smiling all the way through "The Miracle", & so was I.💙
Brian's & Roger's editing/blending work on "Let Me In Your Heart Again" shows what wizards they were in the studio. I think Freddie's voice is gorgeous on that song & the finished product is beautiful.
And Roger's song...festival type song..& have we been to festivals? Why yes, most of us rock fans have been to festivals and have indeed had a lot of...fun (*wink*). Oh, & you said psychedelic right the 1st time, "sike-a-delic".
When you do another Queen reaction how about a little blues? Yeah, BLUES!!
"Sleeping On the Sidewalk" (Official Lyric Video) is Brian singing upbeat blues & telling a fun story.
"See What A Fool I've Been" is early Queen tipping their hat to Zeppelin's early blues-rock style (which they loved). Don't do the official video! Do the one that says "BBC Sessions".
There's also a live version (Hammersmith '75) set to some of the best photos I've seen of them in action in those early days. Neither one has very many views (maybe newer fans just haven't come across them yet). But they're SO worth watching. You should do both together.
And then there's "My Melancholy Blues" Official Lyric Video. Freddie sort of combines old-fashioned blues with a bit of jazz and it comes out sounding like one of those moody torch songs from old classic films.
C'mon L. Make a note of those three (& which versions). You know I won't steer you wrong! I'm giving you Queen doing the blues in three different styles of blues. Gotta love it!
And btw, thank you for remembering us lately. It means a lot to us. I watch some of your other reactions, but you do such a good job with Queen that I'd especially love those even if I weren't already a Queen fanatic!

Told yer loads of times to do The Miracle, but you held out and held out. Great video. The young guy who played Freddie is called Ross McCall, he went on to be in Band Of Brothers. One of Freddie's most beautiful songs, he did write it, but by that time they had all decided every song would have written by Queen on it, due to Freddie's failing health. And for Freddie to write a song about all the beautiful things in the world, knowing he was dying, shows the strength of him.

Just watched this again bc I LOVE The Miracle, and have recently fallen hard for Let Me in Your Heart Again - for which it's good to remember that not only are they superb musicians, but MASTERS of the studio. Mixing is their specialty. I Love Roger's work but it's not surprising he went solo first. His sound is hard to 'blend' into the Queen sound until later in the 80's. Thanks again! LOVE your reactions!

  • @markpalmer7215
    @markpalmer7215 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The band usually worked by making the final music then Freddie would complete the vocal. So there are probably several takes of the vocal track with different lyrics on each of them which they had to piece together to make the final song.
“You don’t fool me” from made in heaven is the really clever one. Apparently no song existed until the producer/engineer David Richards pieced together bits and pieces to make a song which the band then completed the music on

Fantastic stuff, really enjoyed seeing you watch The Miracle for the first time, easily a classic Queen song. You should think about listening to Queen's songs 'Headlong' and 'I'm Going Slightly Mad', both of which are on the Innuendo album. You should also listen to Freddie's solo songs on his own channel, which is dedicated to his solo work. Two in particular are 'Lets Get It On' and 'Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow'. The last one will tug your heartstrings.

I agree, I would LOVE to know who those kids were and what happened to them later-in-life!!
I'm really GLAD you're reacting to some of these later songs: I haven't spent much time experiencing their music from this time period, cuz it always makes me SAD.... But I think Freddie's voice here is AMAZING 💕

I’d love to see interviews with the kids involved in “The Miracle” video. They might not remember too much after 30 years, but still... That would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them.

L, you have to do the “Making of the Miracle” album videos. There’s more than one but it describes how the band had taken a break, then got back together to make this album.
