Roger Taylor is definitely a force on those drums, man! If you get a chance though, you should check out "I'm in Love with My Car" live at the Hammersmith Odeon on 12/26/79. His vocals and drums were miked better in that show, so there's a much clearer quality. Great reaction, as always! Loving these Queen videos, and so glad that you're now a fan of the band! :) Wishing a Merry Christmas to you and your family, too! Hope your son got something related to his beloved cars today, but if he loves them that much, it's probably hard to find something new that has to do with cars for him, because he's most likely already collected nearly everything. lol
I just located it and you are 100% correct! That is a fantastic version with clear vocals and it seems like both of them (Roger & Freddie) sounded better overall.
It's a particularly difficult song to drum and sing at the same time according to Roger and apparently Freddie enjoyed watching him "struggle" haha Payback for the cupboard incident haha My favourite version is the one with isolated vocals/acapella because you can hear those amazing harmonies that are a bit lost otherwise. I think Drowse is Roger's best Queen song (underrated gem imo). And if you want to do some air drums check out his drum solo from the same concert. In general, like the rest of the band, his talents are a bit overlooked, especially by casual fans who think Queen = Freddie. Please do '39 now for Brian's voice 😊
One of the things one quickly learns about Queen is that this was nobody's band. If you wrote the song, then you became the band's musical director during the song's recording. And the rest of the band was really good at following directions, even if they hated the song. Musically, May and Mercury were the leaders of the band and that is reflected in the number of songs that they were allotted per record, but a great number of really big hits were written by Deacon ( You're My Best Friend, I Want to Break Free, Another One Bites the Dust), and Taylor ( Radio Gaga, A Kind of Magic, Stone Cold Crazy, Sheer Heart Attack, Love with My Car). Deacon was also the band's CFO once they started managing themselves. It was his decision to have the band put on extravagant live tours where they essentially broke even or lost money on the premise that they'd make the money back with record sales. I'm sure he had little to do with stage design. May oversaw the band's media affairs and fan club. Queen was one those few really democratic bands that wasn't dominated by one or two members. And I really miss that.
dresden123456 Love Drowse. It’s like nothing else. Just beautiful. And yes, ‘39!!! The studio version with Brian’s lead vocals and Roger’s incredible high notes.
Roger Taylor's son Rufus, is now drumming with the band, "The Darkness", sometimes guest drums for Foo Fighers and also as a touring drummer for the Queen + Adam Lambert stage shows.
Rufus wasn't on the last tour with Queen + Adam Lambert, but he was on the one previous to that. I'm hoping he's with them later this year when I see them in July.
OMG YAY YOU DID IT! I suggested this video largely for a lot of fun reasons including Brian's wicked transition between songs, Freddie's fun with the crowd, and the other three teasing Freddie with the opening of Under Pressure. Roger is (still is!) a wicked force from behind the drums, both vocally and as a drummer (he may not have that insane falsetto he was famous for any more, but he can still do this song sounding almost exactly the same now!). Now that you've done Roger's lead vocals we gotta get you hearing Brian! '39's studio version is wonderful. (If you want to hear the two of them harmonising - and boy do they do it well - then No One But You is a good example. But that's a tearjerker so maybe a few more happy songs first?)
I also recommend Brian's live version of '39. Pretty much I think all three versions are excellent and should be enjoyed by all: Brian Studio, Brian Live, Freddie Live.
Very interesting backstory to this concert. It was filmed for a concert movie. The guy who did the filming changed Queen's stage setup, including the lighting and the band was very pissed about it, Freddy took an instant hate to the guy and fought with him constantly. The film guy tried to choreograph the show and the band told them "we don't do that". They also screwed up the film. It was a two night show and they used audio from different night, which often didn't match what you saw, it was a general mess. The band later had the film reworked and it came out brilliant. Some of the performance however was left on the original cutting room floor and lost forever. There is a long, detailed explanation about it all by Brian May below many of the videos if you look for it. Whatever happened, maybe someone needed to piss the boys off more often because it was really a brilliant performance all around.
Barbara Saracini I think you commented on another comment of mine. This main comment is why I was talking about Freddie throwing the tambourine. I’m glad you followed me lol

Awesome reaction. Yeah, according to Queen lore, Roger locked himself in a cupboard till his bandmates agreed to have the song b-side to the song bohemian rhapsody. Also, in general while live at Montreal 1981 appears to be one of their more popular concerts, keep in mind that the Montreal crowd weren't the most energetic bunch regarding singing along: they were practically silent for "another one bites the dust" and during Freddie's rendition of "jailhouse rock" he tried to get them riled up by saying "come on you fuckers." when that failed, he can even be heard asking Brian May if the song could be wrapped up early, to which Brian shook his head. So basically, lesson learned is at a Queen concert, when they tell you to sing, you sing! Merry Christmas!
I think the Montreal concert is so popular because of the HQ videos, which is SUPER rare for their concerts before then. The audio and video quality is so good. Additionally, all of them were in excellent form at the time. But yeah, the crowd sucked.

I’m in Love With My Car is different from most rock songs because it is not in straight simple 4/4 1-2-3-4 crotchet (1/4 note beats) beats but in the compound time of 6/8 - being 1,2,3-4,5,6 quaver beats (1/8th note beats).
Don't know if you did their full set at "Live Aide 85" yet, also..."Headstrong" and "Breakthrough" (This one they do on the back of a steam train, it's awesome, and you can tell it's hauling ass just by their hair and clothes, for them to stay on their feet, let alone Freddie dancing around on it and not busting his ass...that's skill...lol )
I am definitely not a fan of this song but I am a huge fan of Roger Taylor. He's super multi talented. Takes a lot of concentration to sing and play drums at the same time. He could be a lead singer in a band but he prefers to be the drummer for QUEEN.
I see you've added air drums to your musical repetoire! Don't sweat what others say, you can have a whole air orchestra! If I may humbly make a suggestion for your next Queen venture, how about the official video to "Who Wants To Live Forever "?
I want to tell you something. A couple days ago I was the victim of a violent crime. I am traumatized. I am feeling so many feelings, but mostly rage. Intense, primal rage. And somehow you showed up in my feed. Reviewing a band that I have loved since my older brother brought home A Night at the Opera when I was in elementary school. And I began watching you discover Queen. The first couple songs you were getting on my nerves because you kept interrupting Freddy's vocals (oh, uh, and the Murderous RAGE thing). But I had to keep on listening because Queen is compulsion! And I watched you get it. I watch you fall in love and be transformed in to one of us. I'm feeling so much better. I have tears in my eyes and I quite literally found myself thanking God for the Music of Queen and watching you discover it. So thank you son. If you ever get to feeling like what you are doing is just a TH-cam channel. I want you to remember the time that God used you, Freddy and Jesus to help heal a broken old lady.

Wow Thank you so much for this list I was just think of doing a list of what I havent done yet !!! You're Awesome
@@user-me6un7ih3r That truly sucks.
I’m in Love With My Car is different from most rock songs because it is not in straight simple 4/4 1-2-3-4 crotchet (1/4 note beats) beats but in the compound time of 6/8 - being 1,2,3-4,5,6 quaver beats (1/8th note beats).
I agree w/RM Wort....you need to watch I'm in love w/my car live from 12/76
Don't know if you did their full set at "Live Aide 85" yet, also..."Headstrong" and "Breakthrough" (This one they do on the back of a steam train, it's awesome, and you can tell it's hauling ass just by their hair and clothes, for them to stay on their feet, let alone Freddie dancing around on it and not busting his ass...that's skill...lol )
I am definitely not a fan of this song but I am a huge fan of Roger Taylor. He's super multi talented. Takes a lot of concentration to sing and play drums at the same time. He could be a lead singer in a band but he prefers to be the drummer for QUEEN.
His son: I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CAR!!!!
Roger: pride
Freddie from heaven: rolling his eyes, smiling fondly
Check out Keep Yourself Alive. Great (if short) drum solo by Roger that I could watch on a loop all day.
Queen ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your love of drums: check out Phil Collins - In the air tonight Live; Guitars: all live performances of Stevie Ray Vaughn (RIP).
In case you missed Roger singing “I’m in Love with my Car”, my favorite line is:
Told my girl I’d have to forget her.
Rather buy me a new carburetor...
1980’s Fat Bottom Girl from Old HB, NYC
Roger Rocks!! Titans up!!
My god Roger loves the shit out of that song, it’s actually a pretty decent song! Man could rock the shit outta them drums
Brian May, guitar God! I loved Freddie but I wish Roge had more lead vocal time. He had a pure rock voice and those drums! Know this is old but I wanted to reply.
Haha a medley with I'm in love with my car following a song with the lyric "for cars she could care less"
Killer queen is definitely a classic from my childhood and I’m in love with my car is a song that could’ve come across as ridiculous but was executed perfectly by Roger
I can relate..I'm in love with my car. Driving it 28 and half years and we're not parting soon.
Take notice: Freddie in Adidas, Brian in the Swoosh (NIke) 6:00
Brian with the nike cortez
Have you done "Im Going Slightly Mad" yet? I'll look through your vids.
So, what's it like becoming a new Queen fan?
I've been one as long as I can recall. (Born in '71)
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a bit from the full song. There’s a fun music video with the entire thing
Roger accepted an award on behalf of Queen. It was from BBC’s Top Gear tv show. Don’t Stop Me Now was voted best song to listen to while you drive. His song I’m In Love With My Car didn’t make the list.
First time to the channel. LOVE YOU DO RESEARCH!
Roger said they were stoned
For twenty years 😁😁
Happy Holidays L, hey just wondering would you say your better at the air drums or air guitar? I enjoy watching Queen songs with you.
Drumming most definitely.
.😂😂😂😂
I'm in love with my coffee machine
Please review "The Prophet's Song" at Earl's Court from 1977.
Studio version really lets you hear the lyrics..but this live is awesome!
I’m in Love with my Car was the “B” side of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which meant every time “Bohemian Rhapsody” was played, Roger got mucho Royalties.
1980’s Fat Bottom Girl from Old HB, NYC
Go to Queen songs with lyrics. Look up the words to In Love With My Car. A real auto lover! Also see the lyrics to All their songs while the songs play.

Beth Ford YES u know what im gonna edit my comment and mention that!
@@Emi-kw8gp ❤
Yes, the Hyde Park one is the most beautiful live version of "You take my breath away". Plus, the studio version is a MUST! 💞
Eva Sellden ikr! in the studio version he hits beautiful falsetto notes but the live version is so emotional, it’d be awesome if he did both!!
Correction live from 12/79
