Well thank god for this vid I didn't know I needed cause I thought that urban fantasy was "low" fantasy but...kinda gritty? Rather than romance fantasy!!
My mind is blown. I usually just divided my books into high and urban fantasy - I was so sure the Shadowhunter series were urban fantasy!! But the most useful thing I learned here was the sub-genre/setting of "medieval fantasy". It makes 100% sense, I just never thought of it as a distinct sub-genre
I actually consider Arthurian Fantasy to need the essential ingredient of “the Quest” narrative. For example, the Quest for the Holy Grail. LOTR is also a quest narrative because of the whole “taking the ring to Mordor”. Joseph Campbell wrote a fantastic book called “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”, which shows the quest and character growth for these types of stories. His book was also the inspiration for Star Wars, and we can see the quest journey in Luke’s biography.

I know this sounds stupid, but I’ve always wondered, how do you tell if a book is indie published? I just tend to but them from Amazon/book depository/eBay and can never tell? I’d like to know but just don’t know how to find out 🥴💜
I just look at the publisher in the book info that is provided on the website, and then google it. It's usually in the part of the website where you can find the info about size, page number, when it came out etc. hope you know what I mean!

I always use Urban fantasy to describe Shadowhunters series cause there is actually a fictional fantastical city known as Idris in the series.
