    I’ve never worked on my car before but considering it was going to cost a minimum of $500, I figured I’d look into fixing it myself. This video was a lifesaver! Thank you so much!! I will say that I couldn’t get the back panel off by myself so I pried it open as much as I could and was able to replace it with only a tiny bit of difficulty. I also needed to look at another video to see how to undo the trunk latch from the wiring. With no mechanic experience, this video didn’t give enough detail for me to feel comfortable, but it ended up being super simple. Thanks again!

    Excellent video. I replaced my tiguan's rear latch following the tips. The tip to use the hammer to fix the screw driver in at 44' helps a lot. The link for m8 screw is also very helpful. Thank you!

    Great video! Simple and easy to follow instructions. With ease I was able to change the latch.

    This helped so much! My lock broke yesterday while at school, and i had to use rope from the inside to hold it down while i drive! My part will be here Monday, and I’ll be swapping it out!

    Thank you so much. Once again proving women do it better. There is not all the jibber jabber bullcrap the men do they just sit there and go on and on and on about nothing and still never tell you how to fix it. Thanks Girlie Garage! You rock!! ❤️

      I’m actually laughing out loud. Honestly I just don’t have time so I figured I would make videos for those who want to get to the point as well!

    Hi from the UK. Thanks for your helpful video. Replaced the tailgate latch on my vw tiguan mk1 following your method. The latch opens using the fob, but not the central locking system or tailgate handle. Suspect there is an electrical issue. Have you come across this before please? Tried looking for a video on replacing the switch/wiring connector but so far not found one. Thanks Brian

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t heard of that before! Weird because the electrical signal from the fob is getting through but not the interior door locks?! Maybe the forums will have someone else who is/has experienced the same problem??

    Love this! I have 2016 Tiguan and the trunk won’t open. Will the latch replacement resolve it? I was told to replace the whole assembly with camera need

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can’t diagnose it from a comment, but if you had it looked and and got a second opinion and they all said it was MORE than the trunk latch, then I would listen, but if you want to give this inexpensive fix a try because your gut is telling you it’s probably simple, then you can start here. Let us know how it goes!

    Mine went out today. It stays closed but on the dash it shows the trunk is open will it drain my battery? I ordered my new one. Thank you so much for this video!

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the dome lights in the car are staying on then it is probably draining your battery

  • @Snappycomeback

    Going to order the part and try this next week! My only question: The latch was broken and wouldn't stay closed but I finally managed to get it closed (and latched) so I could drive home - now I can't get it to open again! I can hear the mechanism making a sound but it won't release. I've also tried pushing the release inside the car to no avail.

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a second person it might help. There should be some sort of emergency release inside the car (when you’re referencing the release in the car I’m not sure if that’s what you’re using or if you’re just pushing the button). You will need to push/pull the tailgate hard while using the emergency release. Let me know how it goes!!

    • @franciscoa3886
      @franciscoa3886 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with the same issue right now, I already tried the emergency release but it didn't work, tomorrow I will try with someone else pushing the trunk and see if something happens, I'll let you all know if works

      You’ll need to open it manually from the inside. The step by step instructions for that should be in your owners manual

  • @hunterhayes970

    How would I get my trunk to open if the manual trunk latch seems to be broken? My trunk is completely stuck closed

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a manual opening procedure, check your owners manual

  • @xxtachas

    Is there a way to release the trunk if it’s whirring but will not release?

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, there is a manual release. It will be in your owners manual or also on TH-cam.

    Whats the name of the part it connects to? It is spring loaded and acts as the bolt that the latch connects to

    • @GirlieGarage
      @GirlieGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not 100% sure, but the mechanism usually connects to the latch (or hook). If you try Googling that, you might come up with whatever VW wants to call it

      If you have absolutely no function left with the electronic latch, try these things:

      @GirlieGarage I'll definitely look into it more maybe take those rubber stops off so if closes more. Will update on the fix. Unless it's electrical 😢
