    Amazing tutorial. I bought latch and m8 size tool bit. You just saved me all the diagnosis fee and labor at VW dealer. God bless you sir. For anyone else have 2017 tig, this is same removal. The trim is difficult to pry off, but you only need those first 2 screws and front corners.

    Gave me the confidence to do it myself on my 2016 VW Tiguan. Received the part yesterday and took me less than an hour to do it. Helps to have the proper bit to unscrew the faulty lock.

    Thanks Andrew. Great Video! I did this repair about a year ago and now have the same issue/symptoms. Your video makes this procedure much easier than my last adventure. I winged it and got a good result, just undid too much unnecessary plastic. This is my wife's car and she is very appreciative of the repair work I do on our car(s). I'll order up another latch motor/mechanism. In the mean time it's manual release from the inside if the boot is needed. Thanks again, Matt P

    Thanks Andrew, I obtained the boot lock from VW Lismore, NSW (not far from Byron Bay) yesterday for AU$195.00. I watched your video twice then I went down the shed and installed it in less than an hour. It is working fine. @@AndrewFixes job done! I didn’t have to take the trim off. I was able to get to the latch just by pulling the plastic cover away slightly from the boot lid at the edge being careful not to snap or break it. New latch (£20) works perfectly. I think the solenoid had gone in the original. I wouldn’t have attempted it if it wasn’t for this great tutorial.

    Hi Andrew, thank you for the great video. I have had three (inc original which lasted for 10 years) latches fail like this in the last 3 months and I cannot work out why. I assume it is because of some pressure that is being put on the latch mechanism causing the plastic bolt to snap, but I can't work out how.
    Do you you or anybody else in the community have any thoughts? Thanks

    Very helpful video Andrew thanks for sharing your expertise is a very pragmatic and practical way. My Tiguan boot lock has just gone on the blink (which is how I found your video) but no response from either the key fob or manual tailgate release. So seems an electric issue but wondering if the lock needs replacing or whether it is the switch in the handle?

    • @AndrewFixes
      @AndrewFixes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian, as you're getting no response from the key I think a lock (or wiring to the lock) problem is more likely as I don't think the switch would be involved in the key unlock process, although I suppose it is possible that if the switch is stuck on, it could prevent normal operation. If I remember correctly the tailgate trim has to be (partially) removed to replace the switch or the lock, so you could remove the switch first to test it before ordering any parts. I think the wiring to the switch is quite simple, just one wire in and one out, so the switch could be tested with a multimeter.
      If you want / need to investigate further you can download wiring diagrams from VW for a small fee: erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showHome.do This may help with checking the lock is receiving power at the correct pin etc. I was fortunate that with the car in the video I didn't need to do this, because the lock was making a terrible noise so I knew it was receiving power ok.
      I hope you manage to get it fixed.

      @Chardonbois 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewFixes Thanks for the advice and signposts Andrew. I need to roll my sleeves up this week and have a look. I have now discovered the switch will operate if the fob is held very close to it- but it is hit and miss. I have also found a lot of water in the tailgate skin recently when I lift the boot- after usually after heavy rain. I can't work out how its getting in but can't help thinking this has affected the switch.

    • @Chardonbois
      @Chardonbois 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew. Finally got round to doing the job. The lock is now hanging off while I work out what I should be pressing to disconnect the wiring plug from the lock. Presumably a slotted screwdriver strategically inserted somewhere?

    Thank you for your very helpful video. My car is VW Tiguan (2015) and I heard same noise but I am not sure that same problem. Technicians says this problem caused by switch failure. I couldn't decide what to do.

    • @AndrewFixes
      @AndrewFixes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very hard to diagnose things remotely but my first thought would be that if your car is making the same noise as the one in this video, it's more likely to be the latch. The switch is still doing something if it's causing the latch to make a noise. Hope you manage to get it fixed and thanks for the comment.

Best of all is his "curiosity got the better of him" that he force-open the damage latch to show why the damaged part is not working ....
