  • Tear down of the MSI Trio 3080 to replace the memory thermal pads. I averaged 104c memory temps in hwinfo at 98.5 mhs before and 74c at 100.5 mhs after replacing the thermal pads.
I used 1mm FujiPoly pads on the memory modules. Used a 60mm x 50mm size pad from amazon. 17.0W/mK

I just found this video, there is a gap between the memory and the heatpipes. 20c colder after the fix. Maybe you can try it aswell and show it in a video with the 17w/mk pads. th-cam.com/video/6m1w6y8I8oU/w-d-xo.html

I also changed all the thermal pads and applied new thermal paste on this same model and the difference is quite noticable. Mine was maxing out at 98°C with 90 MH/s earlier. After pad replacement, it maxes out at 76°C now. I don't think the cooling system design is bad on this card. It's just that it ships with rather average quality pads. Changing them with higher quality pads makes all the difference.

@@APxKP I don't know if there is another one again, but the latest 1 I installed a few weeks ago through Dragon Centre still has the same problem (it adds Bar support). If you don't set the power limit to 102% the core throttles to about 800-900MHz. You have to set PL to 102%, then use a Core Clock curve to set the core voltage to about 725mv and 1350MHz, then use CTL+L to lock that in. That will limit power usage to about 230-240W and give you 96-99MHps card dependant. Without thermal pad replacement, or a cold air flow (15c or less), the VRAM will start to overheat though. Its a pain in the butt though, I have no idea what MSI were thinking with this cards BIOS.
