Yep. Worst possible scenario.
But if you look at it again, it hit first the airbag (see the ping markings). (disclaimer: not an expert)

Mitsubishi actually used a really good airbag system but it's completely useless when the entire dashboard shifts completely out of the way from protecting the driver.
That was very scary to watch. Informative, but scary.
Watching crash tests are really eliminating all the affordable cars I can think of😭

The mirage/4g was made in Thailand and meant for developing markets. Mitsubishi should've built a more premium compact car for the Western market.😊

Nah it's all good, I have a Honda ADV 150 it does just fine here in the states. I'm considering the Mitsubishi Mirage now as well
What's actually scariest about this is that it represents crashing into a car of equal weight. So imagine if it crashed into say... a Honda Accord which are pretty dang common on the road.
Correct. You may be interested in reviewing our driver death rates lists. Generally minicars have high rates of driver deaths, reflecting that most vehicles on the roads are larger. Smaller vehicles also have less forward structure to help in a single-vehicle crash.
In other words, this car would only protect you better if it hit a car its own size, correct?

The 2017 improved to marginal. There aren't many vehicles that IIHS had for small overlap front test verification for side airbag coverage. The other car that i saw had the small overlap front test verification for side airbag coverage was the 2015-17 Camry.

So what I've learned is I should try to really commit to hitting something head on instead of avoiding and clipping the side of the car. Good to know

I purchased a 2015 mirage, made it to 70k when both the transmission and motor went. Under warranty the bill was 14k to fix that tin can again.
Did you buy it new or used? They're shitty little tin cans, but they usually last quite a long time.
@@OhPhuckYou Purchased new at the dealership with a whole 18 miles on the clock, I since gave the car to my mom which is stil running the new motor.
I owned a 2014. Both the engine and transmission started acting funny around 40k miles or so. Keeping expectations low I really enjoyed owning it, but I never felt safe in it and the reliability was disappointing.

I drove through a Mitsubishi dealer the other day and couldn’t believe they were asking $20k for these pastel turds. No wonder it was the only dealer with a full lot.
I believe that they're just using the inflation as an excuse to jack up the price. Before the madness, they're like under 10,000.
If this was $5000, it would be too much. An Asian death trap we should NOT import. Serves no benefit to us what so ever. Disgraceful that these are being exported to us.

@@serenan920 Nobody WANTS this. But when you have a poor credit score like I did, it's about all you can get.. Lol. I drove mine for 3 years, phenomenal gas mileage and no issues, except replaced battery.. Traded it in on a New Mustang last month :)
This is an example of how the worst cars from critics (should) perform in crash tests. Significant amount of intrusion in the driver survival space, trapping the legs.
I want to see how recent sedan model of this car do in this test.

In the real world with a 6000 truck or a wall in the worst case scenario when someone doesn't brake or for some reason doesn't have time to brake from 60,65 mph... (On state highway)

That's not bad for a car like that I seen expensive cars do worse. This should be rated marginal. Watch this in 2x speed. It's so cheap you can even see the serial number on the airbags.
No 2014 car sold in the USA does worse than the Mirage in this test.
This is exactly why you buy a 5 year old Civic Mazda 3 instead of a piece of shit death trap like this. They'll both be more reliable, safer, and be far better to drive.

The worst part is that the guy in the 6000 pound truck is less likely to die just because he likely could afford more car (this is avg.) and crashed into mirage which is more likely to die because of his car...
@@Victor-tl4dk I guess it all depends on what we define "afford" as. I'm not a fan of the idea of financing a 60k vehicle for 84 months to compensate for my lack of manhood. My death would just be one of the facts of life, which is that shit happens. I do the best I can with what I have, and if it doesn't work out, so be it.
