@ironcladzz Haha, that's quite the to-do list I have now! 😂 Talking about dark angels, I'm painting up Lion El'Jonson for a competition. I could always record some footage of him 🦁
@@WinstonCorneilius Thank you! I'm the same, something chill, no clickbait. So, I figured I'd make some of my own in that style. I honestly appreciate your sub, and taking the time to comment on this.
Criminally under appreciated video. I love that you limited the paints to those starting hobbyists would realistically have. Too often I click off when they bring out more and more paint. It's overwhelming and I'm much happier to just mix like you do! Keep doing what you're doing and don't give in to the endless clickbaiting of the big channels, this is so refreshing.
@@MerryMac1000 Thank you so much. I felt the same on here when I first started painting, some dude just pulls out 20 paints of his 400 he has sat around! It makes you feel like you'll not get the same quality in your own results. But I can evidence that you can. The paints you use and the colours you pick really are a small part of the process in the grand scheme of things. I won't give in to clickbait, I'll stick to what I'm comfortable with, and what the community want. It may not lead to thousands of views, or tonnes of subs, but if it's genuinely helping people, and it's the content you want to see, that's all that matters to me. Thanks again! 😊
I think you really stood out here with your mix of techniques and not doing the standard "how to paint a marine." I loved the thoroughness and also your unique take on it like the sketching method and not doing a ton of highlighting. I also loved that it was all in one place, thank you for doing that. I have watched a lot of tutorials and I still felt I learned something new here. Keep it up! it's a long road for content creation, make sure you're pacing yourself to avoid burnout. :hugs:
Thanks, Ash. I really appreciate the feedback, it'll definitely help shape my future content. I really wanna hit that sweet spot of what people want, and the content I wanna create. I know exactly what you mean about pacing yourself, I'm really hyped up at the moment from the reception this video has received, and I feel as if I wanna create tonnes of great content quickly, but I've definitely gotta pace myself 😅 Thanks for mentioning that... though I do have another video coming today 🤣 :hugs:

Thank you for this video. Its been a really relaxing watch as well as being a great tutorial on how to not only paint but prepare a mini! I look forward to your future uploads!
Thanks, Patrick! That's exactly the vibe I'm going for, so I'm glad that it has come across that way. Nothing crazy, loud and too fast paced. Just chill, and pick up some nuggets of knowledge.
The video and steps are great. Your own tips and tricks you've learned in the trade are invaluable. However, one thing that I also feel should be noted. Your audio is great and easy to listen to. Keep the awesome videos coming, and when I finish and paint my first mini, I'll make sure to tag you.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you noticing about the audio, I spend quite a lot of time equalising and cleaning up my audio, so I'm glad that's working! I’m noob at painting but i have master degree on watching tutorials. Therefore i can say that i could not believe this video is a debut video. High level quality and educative.
What a fantastic video, I don't think there's anyone else out there that goes through everything that comes with building a model but straight into the painting stage. I really hope you continue with your channel as this content is amazing. Would love to see a video where you explain airbrushing a model as there's not that many out there. @@daniellupton9701 Thank you so, so much. It's comments like yours that make me want to continue with this channel, honestly. I would do an airbrush video, but I don't own one and have never used one! 🤣😅 I do plan to get one in the coming months though, so that might be a good topic to cover, as we could all learn together, in a sense. @@OldgamerNL Thank you so much! Well, there'll be plenty more to come 😁 My go-to brushes are Winsor and Newton series 7. They're not cheap, but they'll last you a good time if you look after them. The brushes I use to base coat and put washes on are usually old Series 7's which have lost their tip, and therefore not great for detail work any more. Certain tasks I only use cheaper brushes for, like varnishing, stippling metallics, applying oil washes and the like, as they'll ruin them. I usually get a pack of four for £4 in places like Hobbycraft or The Works (UK). Oh, one thing I nearly forgot to mention, if you do go to grab a new paintbrush, like a Series 7, it's best to avoid Amazon, there can be a few fakes knocking about amongst their stock, and so be really hit or miss. Nice to support a local gaming or art store anyway 😁
@@highlordalcadizakyr1479 I know plenty of painters who do exactly the same actually. I don't mind a bit of the shine being knocked out of the shadows of metals, as not much light is being reflected back into the viewer's eye from that shaded area, and so it would seem pretty flat anyway. But that's the great thing about mini painting, and art in general, we've all got our styles! 😀 I do have to work with inks more though, I've got one of the Inktensity sets from Scale 75, and they are so very powerful 😅
@@AboveAndBeyondMinis i never tryed scale75's inks dont know about them, only used liquitex and such. inks are great for glazing and filtering, but u have to dilute them, they are very strong 😄
Hi there. I really like this, and think you have a solid grasp on color theory. I was hoping maybe you could give me a little help with my own marines. I want to use Vallejo's Camo Dark Green color as their base, and apply your method. I also have their Gunship Green, which I thought could be a good highlight shade. I was wondering if I could pick your brain, and get some ideas on what you would do for their highlights, what shades I could use for that. I only just started painting, and currently highlighting and color theory are basically nonexistent for me. So, any help would be appreciated. Thank you, and regardless of if you respond, this video was liked, and I needed to subscribe - you really deserve to blow up. Have a good day.
First of all, thank you for your kind words, I honestly appreciate them ☺ In regards to your colour choice. I think for either of those paints you listed, a really rich, interesting shadow colour would be 'Black Violet' from Vallejo. It's in that brown/red/purple area, and that'll compliment your mid-tone really nicely, as it's a green. In regards to a highlight for that, something like 'Buff', or 'Beige', or 'Dark Sand' all from Vallejo, would go nice. You're after something in an orange/yellow, but it can't be too saturated, as in, too colourful, as your mid-tone green isn't very saturated either. With a sandy colour (being in that orange/yellow space), the highlights will stand out, but not look out of place. I'm tempted to paint one myself now and see how it'd look! 😅 Let me know how you get on regardless, I'd love to know how it comes out 😁
What would you like to see for my next video? Let me know!
