I've never harvested any deer that had fat. We hunt by track and harvest. We don't can hunt tame deer that feed off of corn all year. But I'm sure also, deer fat will vary from state to state and breed in that state due to the amount of food forests are there for feeding. The Piney Woods of Texas don't truly offer much and we can tell when we're hunting national forest that is close to a lease, the deer are much broader, not so much fat, but broader like they're eating food plots and grazing corn and mineral blocks.

An excellent way to get protein and fat to your to your chickens. And the chunks are used for doggie treats. It makes all my animals happy. And I have the best lard for cooking with, making me happy. Before the flowers and afterwards that's how the lavender looks, I think the leaves smell better than the flowers.

Lavender looks a whole heck of a lot like rosemary when it’s not in flower, and that’s because the two types of plant belong to the same family.

That is the best fat for health. If you’re not eating it that’s crazy but at least the dog gets some of the awesome health benefits.

One great trick for the final stage. Move the cool, liquid tallow to a tight sealing container and add a little clean water. Seal it, turn it upside down & chill it. The fat will rise to the bottom of the container, so when it’s solid, and you flip it upright, the water pours off, leaving perfectly clean fat that fills the container without air pockets.

I don’t like the taste but for soap sure. You’ll want to add the lavender oil closer to the end of the soap making process though, otherwise the lye/ ash will break down the lavender oils just like the tallow. I usually let the lye work for a few mins before adding the expensive oils lol

I usually give it to the birds in my feeders. Deer fat has a wax taste and in my opinion I don’t like it for cooking. So the birds have it to fatten up for winter and my chickens as well

Ohh fun ideas! I just processed a bunch of ducks from my flock, and man did they turn out to be fat-asses 😅 I held onto some fat, but i wasnt prepared to collect much to use. Felt like kind of a waste, if im being honest 😕

I will try this if I ever get any fat. I got all excited once, when I was at an outlet store and found a 50 lb box of tallow cheap. I bought it, planning to make soap with it. One day, I mindlessly was looking at the box and noticed an ingredient label. Ingredients? It's just tallow! It contained "anti foaming agents". Ugh! No way to make soap with that. Ended up using it for frying potatoes and a couple of other things.

I’ve tried the wet render method. I don’t like the hassle of it with repeated purifying rounds. I have experimented and found that when I fold my huge cheesecloth piece into 4 layers it strains all the impurities out and I don’t have to wet render at all!
