I can vouch for this one, i've got the mega 290 ltd edition frame with the EXT coil shock. The tune on the shock is absolutely spot on, unlike what it sounds like you encountered with the Fox. I'm 5'10" and ride the size medium, on paper it would look like its too small for me but in reality its perfect, the mega was never designed to be a 'big bike' by geometry standards. It has exceptional trail manners, i've taken it for multiple day long rides and it's very easy to live with despite the travel numbers, and get it to a bike park and open it up and it absolutely rips on steep techy terrain!
Ex Mega 297 owner - to fix the loose Pivot bolts. you have to remove them, add a lot of loctite and torque them a little bit over spec... and they will sit in place. But luck servicing your pivot bearins 😉
I own same bike in XL (6'3 210lbs) just different drivetrain and I can agree on suspension observations. 100psi in forks and bit faster rebound and few clicks more compression, 240psi in x2 with rebound fully slow. Would be interesting to find out what others got dialed in, especialy presenters. I'm new to this fork and it is pretty tricky to get right
I don't know if it's a bad materials choice (e.g. metal or surface finish is too hard), but the flip chip bolts on my Nukeproof (Reactor) also came loose regularly. Bit of a Loctite 243 sorts it. (Better than over-torqueing imo).
Anything from nukeproof with threads needs loctite imo. My frame has been mostly fine barre the linkage bolt near the bottom bracket, and also my nukeproof pedals have lost 5 pins (almost 6) in a month, so a bit of loctite on the outside pins is necessary
The brakes seem like a strong point of the build to be honest, the feeling was similar to that of TRP. I think immediately swapping to metallic pads would be a good idea to maintain the full power out of them, we just ended up with wet conditions on the stock organic pads.
I agree with Jonny. I don't have any reason to think the brakes were a problem, just the brake pads. There isn't a brake in existence that I'd want to ride with organic pads, but that's not the brake's fault.
My Rockshox version of this bike has never had an issue, the geo is perfect for all around enduro / bike park / shuttle type riding, but you really could pedal it anywhere, you'll just be overbiked.
its incredible. I went up to 180mm travel on my fox 38's and it makes it such a hard charger. Gunna build a scout for local rides though with the recent sales on the frames
Chain Reaction/Wiggle are up for sale right now, and allegedly are a hot commodity. Seems unlikely they would toss the whole Nukeproof/Vitus brand in the garbage bin, but unfortunately Nukeproof did shut down their US HQ in Salt Lake City out of the blue recently. Sucks for people who worked at their Salt Lake location, but Nukeproof as a brand will probably survive this chapter.

correct about travel, our mistake in the details. nukeproof says chainstay is 440 on all sizes - geo chart from their site here - nukeproof.com/products/07e7-mega-290-carbon
@@vitalmtb youre right, sorry guys. Got confused with the 297 chainstay which is shorter Btw, i had the mega with the x2 factory and also didnt like the tune. Got the 2023 rs super deluxe coil which is a dream on the bike, even though the frame isnt the most progressive

Is the EXT shock come with the bike or did you order it separately?
@@youling1997 It came with the frame. Nukeproof worked with EXT to dial in the tune.

Really great looking bike. I was super close to getting one but those brakes just put me off.

Their worst sin is being ugly. And requiring a special bleed adaptor
I went for a metallic pads 🤌🏻 in giga thought.

Mine has 180 up front too.
Are they going to continue the brand?

Some of the numbers shown in the video are wrong... The 290 has 160mm of rear travel, not 170.
Edit: Was wrong about the chainstays
