  • Nukeproof has always been the privateer enduro racer's brand of choice, but the decision as to which model to ride got a lot harder this year with the introduction of the brand new Giga. So Nukeproof Mega or Nukeproof Giga; which one should you choose? We ride them back-to-back in the Surrey Hills and BikePark Wales to find out.

    Got a trek remedy at the moment and was literally looking for this comparison, I was set on the giga but 180mm travel had me second guessing myself. think I might go mega as it just seems like it might be the SLIGHTLY better all rounder 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @samc821
      @samc821 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think the Megas gonna be a better choice after being used to riding a remedy, the difference is gonna be a shock to the system either way seeing as theres such a drastic difference in geo but the mega makes more sense as an all rounder.

  • @gpearce11

    Great comparison and good video. If I wanted one bike as my do-it-all bike I'd probably pick the Mega, but if I wanted a big travel brawler to compliment a shorter travel trail bike (like the Reactor) I'd go for the Giga. I also think the Giga with a Fox 40 fork and DHX2 coil shock would be an awesome park bike.
    One thing I noticed you mention twice is that they both have 170mm forks. I was under the impression the Giga is supposed to have a 180mm fork.

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the kind words. Yes, you're right about the fork travel. This kind of got missed in all the info we were trying to get across, so apologies!

    • @gpearce11
      @gpearce11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MBRmagazine No worries, mistake happen (although it would possibly explain why you needed different fork setups). As Nukeproof is practically a CRC direct to consumer brand these days customers are relying on comparisons like these as they're unlikely to find a LBS with either/both and you've done a great job with this comparison (definitly better than Vital MTB's attempt, which ended more a 275 Factory vs 290 RS comparison than Mega vs Giga; at least here you compared two equivalent 290 Factory's).

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's super annoying as we can't go in and correct the video now, but at the end of the day it doesn't affect the conclusion of the video. Glad you enjoyed it - we'll definitely try and do more of these in the future as there's so much crossover out there now.

  • @paulnwt

    After two years of struggling to decide which of the eight or ten bikes I liked, this video helped me to decide. I then had to wait until Nukeproof brought out the 297 version of the bike that I eventually bought. Wait for it... Which was the Mega! Of course we all have different preferences, but the 297 Mega has been perfect for me from day one and I'm really pleased with it. The first time I rode down a big fast swooping corner and the Mega 297 railed around it super smooth, I knew I'd bought the right bike. Thanks guys, keep up the great work! 🙂

    Do you think the Mega would benefit from a shock with a bigger negative chamber (e.g. Meg Neg on a Super Deluxe), to help with being able to pump and keep up with the Giga (due to increased mid range support)?

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure the MegNeg would be a good fit for the Mega since, looking at the leverage curves, it is digressive initially with a similar mid-stroke to the Giga. Which means it will likely make it too soft to sag, then too firm after. Certainly Hill isn't running one on his Mega.

      @samalexander1068 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MBRmagazine what about a Vorsprung Tractive Tune? I have an RS model with the Super Deluxe which I love in the rough, but really notice not being able to pump on flow trails. One of my riding mates has a Giga, and I can relate to your comments about not being able to keep up.

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samalexander1068 flow trails are mtb-ing now?, probably the in the same way resort snowboarding equals freerideing.
      in the rough is where it matters, not on flow lines. Having said that, I do think I might have made a mistake with the Giga.. but, before being sure, I need to do much more testing. From where I stand now, Mega would/could have been a better choice, maybe a size bigger to bring some more stability into the game. The glide sensation is what I am missing.. and the glide sensation is what I am looking for. I wish I had seen this video before taking delivery of the Giga.
