Top Thrill 2 Front Row POV & Off-Ride Animation Cedar Point New for 2024 Roller Coaster

- Cedar Point, The Roller Coaster Capital of the World®, will once again redefine roller coaster innovation in 2024 with the debut of Top Thrill 2, the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata roller coaster. The strata coaster, known as any roller coaster eclipsing a height of 400 feet, was first pioneered by Cedar Point in 2003. The park will build on that legacy with not one, but two, 420-foot-tall track towers, putting riders in the driver’s seat for one of the greatest races of all time.
Riders will immerse themselves as they join the CP Racing Team and climb into one of three, sleek high-performance racing vehicles. Each of Top Thrill 2’s trains will feature open-air seating, providing heart-pounding views on the world’s first and only dual-tower vertical speedway.
On the start, using an all-new linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch system, riders will peel out down the straightaway reaching speeds of 74 mph, racing toward the sky on Top Thrill 2’s original 420-foot-tall “top hat” tower. After experiencing weightlessness during the “rollback” - the coveted fan-favorite moment when the train’s momentum isn’t great enough to make it up and over the tower - the train shifts into reverse and into its second launch, reaching speeds of 101 mph.
Riders will then see Cedar Point unlike ever before as they speed into a backward climb at a 90-degree angle on a new, 420-foot-tall track tower. After a second moment of weightlessness, the train shifts into drive and races forward into its third launch, clocking in at the ride’s top speed of 120 mph.
Crossing over the top hat tower, the train decelerates momentarily before diving into a 270-degree spiral and crossing the finish line.

The first and only launch on the original dragster was the favorite part but I feel the backwards launch up the spike will be the new favorite moment

I agree, the initial launch was the best part and why I loved the ride. If the new ride doesn't have the same thrill there's going to be a lot of people let down.

I'm looking forward to the sustained speed, all of the thoosies are crapping on it (but nobody cares about thoosies). Actual roller coaster enthusiasts though I'm sure are excited for this! I'm looking forward to the amount of time you spend just going FAST.
My favorite part was going backwards when the tires where on the back. Ive always been out spoken for years that they should've made it go back intentionally and they finally answer! This is definitely why wicked twister was pulled because they needed parts lol
They essentially combined Wicked Twister and Top Thrill Dragster into one coaster with this idea. That reverse launch is going to be intense

I remember watching Dragster's animated POV when I was 7 years old and it blew my mind. Now I'm watching TT2's. I can't wait to ride this beast.

All the more for a much more reliable roller coaster. Keep in mind that when it first opened in 2003, it was actually the worst financial decision ever made, according to Cedar Point's CEO at the time. This model was extremely problematic from the get go, and had been something of a collosal failure. The new model was built by Vekoma, no involvement from Intamin whatsoever, whom Cedar Fair permanently severed ties with after one unreliable failure too many (trust issues be like, but I digress). I would have loved the idea of it being scrapped tho, because its existence will serve as a reminder that a woman was crippled in 2021, and she and her family have been left to pick up the pieces, unable to recover from the trauma of becoming disabled, not to mention the ongoing lawsuit that nobody has been talking about for a while now. I'm not riding a roller coaster that ruined the life of another person. I can't bring myself to.

@joeyharper4976 they could have if they would have added more to the back of the track than a simple spike. Even a camel back and a twisted spike or a fishook that took the train past vertical would have been epic

Massive queue lines no doubt like any other new coaster but I don't think it will be stacking because of the wide open trains which should make for faster load & unload times..especially if the g.p. cooperates

Capacity shouldn’t be too bad. Seems like it takes a little less than 50 seconds for the train to clear the top hat (based on the animation) if we assume it takes 10 seconds for the switch track to lock into place a 60 second dispatch time means 1,200 pph which is more than the og. Its mainly up to how fast they can load a train but I’d be surprised if they don’t hit 900-1,000 most hours.
I think cedar pint should’ve tried to re claim the height record by making the coaster 460ft tall to beat king da ka

To be honest, I’m kind of skeptical regarding the ride experience. In my opinion, they should have made the first launch go a little faster, perhaps to 80 or 90 mph so that the train would make it further up the first tower. On the plus side though, the ride will at least be more reliable! (P.S. when it opens, regardless of how the ride turns out, please make a parody of it!)

100% agree. The speed and drops will be awesome on this, but the launches are gonna be boring as hell. Would have much preferred a 0-90 launch

From a thrill standpoint, I absolutely get this. However, the more time each train spends in that swing launch section, the fewer trains per hour they can send, reducing the ride's capacity. I'd bet that was a big consideration for this ride.
It's going to be down a lot because Zamperla, and based on their coaster history, we can't even count on this ride being smooth, even though they are dealing with nothing but straight track.

Double launch coasters are incredible, there's nothing like it, my first one was the velocial coaster at universal studios in Florida, that was an insane experience id highly recommend for any riders, this is a huge improvement to top thrill and it will hopefully be much loved

These lightning trains really do look to offer a comfortable ride and experience. Would be a nice upgrade for Millennium Force

I am quite sceptical. What made Dragster so special was the powerful hydraulic launch, which they now abandoned. Sure, the ride lasts a little longer, but Dragster was never built to last long anyway. It certainly won't be bad, I just don't think it will be an improvement. Well, in terms of reliability it most likely will be at least.
I agree, this style of coaster is about the launch, what came after was pretty much an after thought. Now it seems like they just found a alternative solution to just simply getting over the tower and not focusing on the launch itself. I also think they should have changed the name and the theme. The dragster name came specifically from the launch and how it was similar to a real top thrill dragster.... Now it's not.
You are going to have 3 airtime moments, a reverse lateral force at 101....the same forward lateral force at 120 coming off a 300 ft plus spike vs one lateral force of 120 mph and one airtime moment from original. How can you say that is not an improvement?? Lol

I hear what you saying and it's all opinion but I just wonder if people are taking in to account all those crazy zero g airtime moments added to 3 launches, last being just like the original ride, is going to give. With the more open train??? Man! But I do recognize that some people prefer cheese pizza over pepperoni and Italian sausage pizza. So I respect where you are coming from. But I think this is going to blow the original out of the water.

I still think the new design is appealing in other ways, though, just that I dont think Id prefer it over the original.

It definitely sucks to lose the original launch system, but this still looks like fun. They should consider removing the corkscrew too; it really takes away from the drop… it’s so tight you don’t even feel any butterflies on the way down.

I was just thinking if the triple launch set up using the same LSM setup makes the ride more efficient to run and cheaper to maintain. They can get away with a smaller launch system because it doesn’t have to power the train over the top on the first shot. It only has to get it to about 80 then Boost backwards toward the spike and then boosting again over the top. With modern tech it might be simpler and more reliable than having one big launch.
That spike is going to be absolutely massive. This ride is going to be insane.

I’ve been on the dragster for a roll back and it was awesome. People used to wish for a roll back so I think this experience will be fun. I still think they should’ve extended the track on the other side and added a few more hills. I don’t think there was room though

This is a clever fix to the stall issues they used to have. And getting shot in reverse will be a trip. This will allow them to adjust the speeds better for time of day and temp.
I wonder if it has a rollback now if it will just send it again right away or what exactly will happen.
@@mushieslushieI doubt it. The reverse spike is probably too small to handle 120mph safely. The train shouldn’t be able to reach the very top of a spike. It will definitely stop.

Although the launch may not be as powerful as it used to be, the backward spike gives the layout a unique bite you won't see on other accelerator coasters.

A staple for dragster was the launch, and it looks like that's gone. We are left with a spike, which I guess is fine. Different experience for sure. Felt like they were selling it as a complete rebranding, and they were going to go nuts with it. So I'm personally a little disappointed that we aren't even getting a king da ka airtime finish.

The airtime at the peak of rollback, which is going to be much higher than this cartoon is showing...a reverse launch at 101 mph and a huge long airtime 300 to 350 feet in the air and then coming down a vertical spike and launch at original 120. That is waaaay more elements than kings ka and original dragster. Smh

Clearly this shows they closed Top Thrill not because of the accident but because of the launch. The queue is in the exact same spot and the name is the same with a "2" at the end. The bad part is when CP realizes Zamperla LSMs are even more unreliable than an Intamin hydraulic.
The queue appears to be indoors (or at least covered), though.

The LSM motors are supplied by external manufacturers, so I doubt their unreliability. Apart from overheating I don't think LSM's suffered from many issues

I really don't want parks to fail, but I do think they'd kind off deserve it if it all goes down hill, when they don't even understand what made this ride so popular and just throw out the manufacturer because of things that aren't even a problem anymore.
I think intamin impulse is pretty similar, they have made worse rides than this before...
This new ride is gonna be all about sustained forces. Continuous seconds of acceleration; continuous seconds of floater airtime on the "rollback" and spike. By the time you get to the third launch, that's a few seconds of pure speed, flying through at 100+ MPH, with no airtime hills or anything to distract you.

I can get the same "continuous seconds of acceleration" in my Toyota Tacoma though. Thrilling acceleration doesn't appear to be part of the formula here.
Okay, if the LSMs make the revving sound like portrayed in this rendering, I’m not too mad about it to be honest. There’s something about the sound of launch mechanisms that interest me. My favorite was the scream of the LIMs on Wicked Twister. Either way, I’m getting more and more excited for this coaster and to see the top hat being utilized once again after all these years!
I hope they actually keep the traffic lights on the tower.
If a rollback happens on the third launch, would the LSMs act as Brakes? Or would they let the train let it run the reverse spike again?
Not for me, the thing that made dragster was the insane launch, they are taking away the best part of the ride.

Its a giant half pipe. They should have taken the surf coaster stand up cars, rotated the seats 90* and rebranded it Tony Hawk's Half Pipe of Terror.
Some air time hills after the drop would have been nice to see also they could have made this a world class coaster with the redesign but seems like they took the east route.

I think yes, In Portaventura Spain rides like Shambala or dragon kahn are often closed because of heavy Winds. However Red Force Was still oparating while being much taller. It is not exact the same ride as dragster but it has a lsm launch too.

That woukd slow the ride down. All those renditions of a hill on the launch side were by people who never took physics. If there was going to be one it woukd have to be coming down after the top hat.

I gotta say this atleast looks awesome from the parking lot. I am going to miss the original and the overall more intimidating nature of Top Thrill Dragster but I understand it was a little too intense and that drove about half the park's guests from even trying it out. It's the best course of action for everyone, just not for me because now I have to drive 7 hours to Great Adventure to get the same experience it delivered. Im sure this will probably have better "wind in your face" because of the more prolonged speed throughout the 3rd launch and it looks super fun and rerideable.
This rollback on the video is an obvious low ball offer to us to set our bar to a certain level only to be pleasantly pleased when reality comes. If a launch at 115 to 120 , depending on how the old dragster was running, got us rollback from the top with heavy trains....a 74 mph launch with lighter trains should get a rollback from 60 to 75 percent up the track. Which is wayyyy more than this animation shows us. I'm thinking the nose of the train will be between the 2nd junction between first red track and next white track to that next junction of white to red. Even if it's a little below the junction if first red track......thats well above what this is showing us. This is going to be lit like a BBQ grill on July 4th

I wonder what roll backs are gonna be like on this. Is it gonna break then stop on the launch and be that original punchy launch. Or it it gonna go all the way up the spike then speed up a bit again.

I hope they can calibrate the LSMs in real time to just make it over the top hat. A 1 in 10 chance of a rollback (thus a five-pass launch) would be awesome. Not so great for throughput, but awesome.
I got to ride the original in 2005. While i wish i had ridden it more recently, im glad i did get to ride the original. Im sure its a great ride and they have reasons for changing it, but I think the original will be the better version.
