ya I've started to notice this bias mark has. the iPhone does prompt you to move your finger around which was smart, along with being round apposed to slightly rectangular makes it more obvious where to scan. how ever it could be improved with software updates (as that's how these things work). I feel like Oneplus could make it as good if they look into it a little more. it's Apples second round with finger print technology, and a much larger research force. if OP manages to make it as good, then that's saying something really big about the company (if we haven't already gotten that vibe already)
They did the OnePlus 2 setup wrong. They should've been on top of a corner of a family side cherry wood table while balancing a steel beam of 41kg on the opposite corner and have one hand grasping the back of their neck. That's why it didn't have good accuracy.
I think even the biggest android "fanboys" can agree, that Touch ID from Apple is a.t.m. the most accurate fingerprint reader. So in my opinion you dont need to compare every phone which has a fingerprint reader to the iPhone 6/+.
Stefan Holzer I think it comes down to time. Apple spends more time focusing on a feature (like Touch ID) to get it to work seamlessly, and other OEM's just seem to add those features as an after thought (like the GS5).
***** My S6 reads it just as accurately as my iPhone 6. I was skeptical when the S6 was first released because a long rounded rectangle-ish button would most likely not be as accurate as a big round button sine your fingers and thumbs are round. Speed is irrelevant to be because they're both lightning quick and the difference in speed is barely noticeable, if at all.
Interesting test. Though i thought Oneplus2 touted speed of the reader not accuracy. Also is it possible that 1+2 is more "strict" while touchID is more "lenient" on finger print reads? (side note i could care less either way, i like neither 1+2 or iphones)
Edis Delgado You are correct, Apple has set it up originally to be less strict & that is why people were able to unlock devices and fool the touchid with a set of silicon fingerprints. Apple did adjust the parameters of the algorithms do make it less acceptable unlocking with those fool attempts but still are quite more acceptable, as for the sensor in OnePlus they are from the company Fingerprint Cards who have set up the sensor to be less lenient. They themselves make algorithms for their sensors, but also have an another company helping them called Precise Biometrics, and they let their customers decide which algorithm to go with their sensors. Hopefully some update will tinker with the chosen algorithm and software of the sensor. Fingerprint Cards also made the sensor to HTC One M9, Huawei-devices, Oppo-devices, ZTE Nubia 9, Meizu Mx5 & many more smartphones. As for OnePlus statement of the speed they probably talked about the speed unlocking device with the screen closed, as there are no need to turn the screen on before unlocking the device with the sensor. And regarding the speed with smartphones screens turned on it sometimes the perceived amount of time it takes to unlock the phone with the sensors, is sometimes fooled with an choice of animation of the smartphone brand when unlocking.
Benedek Szénási Speed is useless if accuracy is not considered. Yes, you can unlock your 1+2 faster 7 times out of 10 than iPhone. But the other 3 times when you have to use passcode to unlock would make the average recognition speed much lower. More importantly, I think lower than 90% success rate would simply make a lot of users turn off finger print passcode at all.
***** " The reason that TouchID is just working better is one it's a circle which gives more area to scan the print and two the scan can come from any angle at 360 degrees and unlock still. " Thing is that the fingerprint sensor in the OnePlus 2 has a sensor from Fingerprint Cards & algorithms from Precise Biometrics, the latter one actually supports 360 degrees. As for the sensor itself it has more of an area (further away from the edges for the home button not disturbing the read) for the sensor to register and read the fingerprints in the iPhone than the OnePlus, even though neither Fingerprint Cards or Apples (Authentec) sensors are circular (the button is the only thing being circular). I think that it's good to have multiple people test the fingerprint sensors in this test, but they should have registered all in the same way. I found Jon's way to register his fingerprints the best way, as he placed his finger sometimes on the sides for the sensor to register a complete fingerprint as much as possible. And yes sometimes the results differentiate from people to people, some have dryer hands or just simply fingerprint hard to register. But as Delgado said and which I commented, Apple did have some leeway for the sensors to accept less complete fingerprints and therefore some were able to fool it with silicon fingerprints. Apple did adjust the requirements and improved the sensors capabilities to the iPhone 6 but I would guess that there still are some leeway left.
+Leois12 of course the circular button is more accurate because the finger lays on it more naturally but if you look at the speed the one plus two fingerprint scanner is faster
Waseem Jaas Touch ID has more surface so it is just logical that it is better. You have more area to maneuver your finger - therefore placing it doesn't matter much. On the 1+ the area is narrow and specific so you have to be more careful. With this in mind, Apple's way is faster over a longer period of time I ain't fanboying, I have an Android myself - it's just that Apple takes the crown for this one :s
Joker1ruler You got a point but in the video you see the one plus it unlocks instantaneously but in the Apple iPhone you'd get that annoying animation
Jon R was doing it at a weird angle as you normally would unlock on that setup. See how he was doing it vertically instead of horizontally..Of course he's not gonna as accurate, not a fair comparison.
iPlayer93 If you claim you have 'the best finger print scanner in the world' then it doesn't matter what angle it's at. Especially when Touch ID has been proven time after time to be amazing , and capable of reading your finger print no matter the angle.
metalgrunt400 I never said that, but I was just stating Jon R set up oddly, while the others did it normally. One's $380, One's $800, I'd fucking hope the iPhone would win this.
+metalgrunt400 from personal experience Touch ID does not work from any angle, I have to have my thumb at just the right angle or it doesn't work at all.
+BeatTheFreak Wow. that's cheap. it's still 800$ in India >_< 400$ would be roughly equal to 25,000 rupees or thereabouts, for that amount the only phone we can get is the 8GB iPhone 5C O.O
iMiguelAOG Jon R and Nivin didn't move their fingers either, for touch ID and for the OPT. Your fanboyism blinds you man. Even with evidence right in front of you, you still won't believe the result. Forget who makes the phone, and look at the results. I love android, but Touch ID wins here.
***** Well I wouldn't say I'm a fanboy of OnePlus, but those two actually did move their fingers when scanning. Well I guess you're right, since Apple has been including Touch ID for almost two years now
it may have something to do with a circle design as it is easier to cover the whole surface area of the circle rather than a wider oval shape which results in better accuracy
Two main things: 1. touch id has better security than android scanners right now- touch id encrypts your actual fingerprint while android doesnt yet. 2. OP2 cant be used to pay for things, kinda lame-ish to not have that option.
when setting up the fingerprint sensor, put your finger at different angles, something mark didn't do. Can't blame them for that considering it never prompted them to do so. Another thing is that iphones have a circular/larger sensor so it is far more likely to work on the first attempt.
well I just got 10 out of 10 on my OnePlus 2. I think your problem is people not knowing how to register their thumb prints correctly. the one guy just kept lifting his finger and putting it back down in the same position.
Well I have to say I'm unconvinced by only 10 reads per person. There were potential factors they didn't talk about that would needed to be controlled, such as if different people were more or less sweaty than others, the temperature of the room, how long they waited before trying again, etc. Also, I noticed that they turned the screen on first, then used the fingerprint reader to unlock the phone. That isn't necessary with the OP2, you can just put your finger on the home button and it will wake up and unlock; yet they completely fail to mention that in this video.
So, first do this with the Galaxy S6, and second i believe OnePlus claimed that their fingerprint sensor was faster than Touch ID, unfortunately not more accurate. It could also be related to how the iPhone's setup requires you to get the sides and edges of your finger allowing more possible angles to unlock it.
coming from a person that uses the 1+ 2 as my daily phone I get 100% accuracy. one thing that should be tested again is when setting up the fingerprint by changing angles and or as if it was touch I'd since it calibrates it better with keeping accuracy to a set finger as well as speed. It is faster, but just slightly since both sensors are great.
I saw the video and I tried that on my oneplus. What I discovered was that the Fingerprint works every time if you clean the Fingerprint Reader on your phone after using it a few times. It works perfectly.
Probably has something to do with you not quite being used to the sensor on the OP2. Use the OP2 for a while like you have the iPhone 6 and try it again, i bet it's much better
Why do you go around talking shit about every device on every video? If you don't like a device, don't watch the video. Now it's my turn to make a joke. You.
+D33M0N3Y you do realise you're the foolish one for falling for my obvious trolling. I have permission to say whatever I want, whenever I want online and you can't tell me differently. it's called a freedom of speech.
I think the main reason OnePlus claims it's sensor is better, is the very fact that you don't need to turn on the screen THEN unlock it using the sensor, but the iPhone and even Samsung do need you to turn the screen on first.
LOL people bash the Moto X for not having a fingerprint sensor. Meanwhile Motorola clearly said that Apple acquired the best manufacturer for fingerprint readers on the market and that they would rather not introduce a feature at all as opposed to releasing a half-baked version of it. OnePlus doesn't seem to have that same level of quality control.
that's because you set a finger print on one plus two vertically, but when you are trying to unlock you put your fingers horizontally. that's the mistake, you didn't do that with iPhone
Maybe because his Mark's finger is at a 90 degree angle? It would work better at that angle on an iPhone because its circular whereas the OnePlus Two is not circular...
a simple reason could be that the touch ID is a press button, so you press it more properly, against the OnePlus where you may just tend to hover around the touch sensor. kindly give your views.
i've got an iPhone 5, and my battery is almost dead. Should i replace the battery, should i switch to Oneplus 2 or should i wait until the OP3 comes out?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe Oneplus said the fingerprint scanner was FASTER than touch ID, and they are correct. It was much faster, but yes it looks like touch ID is more accurate.
I think Mark missed to register the finger prints properly on OP2 in its small rectangle area whereas finger print registration has no problem on Iphone. I think Johns resullt's are comparable as he did this test better!!
I will stick with Touch ID, since Apple made it so 3rd party devs cannot get direct access to your fingerprint info. Since Android is open, I think 3rd party apps could steal your fingerprints.
The think I like about the home button on the iPhone is that I press it to turn it on and I hold my finger/thumb there to unlock it. It takes less than half a second. That's why I like the apple one the best. Samsung Galaxy s6 is a good second though. Haven't tried the one plus two scanner yet.
at's because you set a finger print on one plus two vertically, but when you are trying to unlock you put your fingers horizontally. that's the mistake, you didn't do that with iPhone.
I set up my Fingerprint on my OnePlus 2 by registering the fingerprint for each finger in all possible ways I could touch. For me it works 10/10 times when the screen is on. With the screen off though, it's a hit or a miss. It works about 7/10 times.
Look how much longer it takes for the iPhone screen to unlock. Its not nearly as snappy as the One Plus when the One Plus works. I would take the One plus for the speed alone over the iphone scanner
The reason why iPhone 6 gets 100% accuracy is because the scanner is big & round -- scans entire finger. Android phones have small rectangle scanners, there's no way to scan finger accurately. Just science, bro.
Mark didn't move his thumb at all (at least it seemed from the video) when registering his fingerprint for the OnePlus but did for the iPhone 6, not sure if that was intentionally trying to mess with the results but if he would have moved his thumb around like he did on the iPhone the readings would have been much better. Also the OnePlus was all about speed not accuracy, I wouldn't expect a $350ish phone to have 100% accuracy (but it probably is better than the 73% you guys got), but I would expect a $650+ phone from a company that bought out a fingerprint scanning company to have 100% accuracy.
OnePlus two has been out for a month while the iPhone 6 has been for nearly a year. There's bound to be a difference when you compare the two. That said, I'm sure the OnePlus 2 will get much better as time passes.
Nana A. Boateng a compromise doesn't make a statement true. I doubt the software adapts to your fingerprint over time, the initial setup records it and then it just checks for it every time. How and why would it get better at doing that?
Same here. But it's pretty much about getting used to it, I can get 10/10 with my right thumb, but roughly 7-8/10 with my left. Since iPhone 6 is out for longer, it has a smaller size and better shaped button (consequently easier handling) it will give better accuracy than the 1+2 IMO.
I wish people would just get the facts right (I am looking at you TechnoBuffalo). No one said the sensor is better than Touch ID, Oneplus stated the sensor is faster: forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-2-fingerprint-sensor.318962/
I don't remember oneplus said they had the best finger print sensor they said it was faster then iPhone, I might be wrong but that's what I think they said
mark kept his finger at 3o clock the whole time while setting up the one plus phone. then immediately goes to six o clock from start to finish during Apple setup... bias from the start. Jon was the only one who did it correctly. you can also see marks finger during the one plus test starting at the bottom with only half his print on the button when starting the gesture then moving the rest of the finger on the circle mid way which would clearly mess it up and it did.
zorkor Its a good first attempt by 1+2 but its pretty hard to get on par with Apple. Especially since they already have 2 and a half years optimising it.
Jon please do more videos like this. By this I mean in in places that are a more natural environment. You used to have an office with a glass wall and and it was a hoot to see Lucy in the background doing whatever. Maybe some videos outside would be cool. When you have a smartphone that your testing what better place to film. Anyway's just contributing my 2 Why is there not a cent sign on my keyboard? Who dropped the ball on that one?
I had the IPhone 6 and almost always had a problem with the fingerprint scanner. I adjusted it, tried different fingers and no matter what it was just gimmicky. I just ended up turning it off. If the oneplus is worse, I wouldn't be using it either.
I have not used the oneplus 2 yet but I did have a lot of trouble with Touch ID on the iPhone, half the time it wouldn't work for me so I guess you guys got pretty good results. I cannot say the same.
First of all, just because the oneplus 2 doesnt say that you should use all the sides of your finger doesnt mean you should touch the very center of your thumb to it 40 times like all of you did in the video Also completely left out the fact that you can do the Oneplus touch ID while the device is asleep as well....
OnePlus Two doesn't support fat fingers that's why Mark's reading was off the chart!
So true. Lol
That's messed up man...disrespectful
Kyle Pineda your absolutely correct! Mark is very disrespectful to the oneplus two touch ID. shame on him and his fat fingers.
+L BS xD
That's Mark B, not Mark L. Same name, different person. Lol!
Uhh yeah, put the S6 in this too. Not sure why you didn't just do all 3 at once haha.
So they could make another video and make more $
Garrett R Let me just take a minute to interrupt this comment thread and thank our friends over at Harrys.
Lol to funny
Garrett R "Make more $"...so you mean like every other company in the world and no one should be surprised by this?
Kevan Mann yep
Mark set it up wrong, he never adjusted his finger when setting up. He's biased towards anything but Apple.
iPhoneHelper1999 the one plus never actually prompted to do so. it's not really a bias if your following the instructions.
ya I've started to notice this bias mark has.
the iPhone does prompt you to move your finger around which was smart, along with being round apposed to slightly rectangular makes it more obvious where to scan.
how ever it could be improved with software updates (as that's how these things work).

iPhoneHelper1999 also that isn't the mark from the videos, it says mark b
+Nitin M did I ever say it was? No
They did the OnePlus 2 setup wrong. They should've been on top of a corner of a family side cherry wood table while balancing a steel beam of 41kg on the opposite corner and have one hand grasping the back of their neck. That's why it didn't have good accuracy.

I'm ready.
Danny Sillence Thanks ...
Touch ID All day. Everyday. :)
+cmromflasher.slite “Gadgets” Roms Apple is not the first one to have a fingerprint scanner, but okay. Whatever makes you apple consumers happy.
+cmromflasher.slite “Gadgets” Roms Uhh, not really. The S6 and OP2 has a faster fingerprint scanner. TouchID is overrated because it's on an iPhone.
+victor slater Have you TRIED the s6 fingerprint? It's accurate 99.99% of the time.

No real surprise here but OnePlus claimed that it would be faster, not better.
Nana A. Boateng and it is faster from what i saw! :D
Yeah but it can't be faster when it fails to read the fingerprint ;)
They said it would be faster, not better.
Get Dynamic but then on every failed attempt it would take a lot more time for retrying
Nope, better
It's not faster if it doesn't work
Ryan Dougherty When it works its faster
+schenkenberg13 right but considering that's it's 73% accuracy at the end of the day overall the iPhone is going to save you more time
As an android fan, no its not better than Touch ID. As long as that fingerprint vulnerability on android is not patched then theres no point to it.
It doesn't matter what your a fan of. If it's not as good then it's not as good.
it may have something to do with a circle design as it is easier to cover the whole surface area of the circle rather than a wider oval shape which results in better accuracy

hey john, you didnt even need to wake the device (OP2) to unlock it. just press it. LOL
Can't wait till the new iPhone 6s comes out with a supposedly improved Touch ID
One impractical test scenario... The result might be because the finger scan may not have been properly stored during the setup.
OnePlus2 fingerprint scanners looks faster though.
The fact that you can use fingerprint sensor to wake up the screen on OP2 without even touching the Power button outshine TouchID
In the OnePlus Two I don't think Mark and Nivin moved their finger a lot. They just kept pressing one part of the fingure
Oneplus probably will release an update to fix it?
That circular format of the button must help.
Where can I get that nice iPhone wallpaper in the title video picture?
The main thing going for the 1+2 fingerprint sensor is the fact that you can use it when the screen is turned off.
OnePlus, don't make a claim like "our sensor is better than Touch ID" if you can't back it up with real world use.
Nice test, by the way do you guys sell those Technobuffalo sweats ?

i've got an iPhone 5, and my battery is almost dead.
Do a speed test of how quick they work. Along with include the S6 for its accuracy.
I thought they claimed it was faster than Touch ID. Not that it was more accurate.
Ryan Good People can find there ways into getting in
***** Yeah it would say in the app
"This App Has Control Over ______"
Android is an open is but not with security
The government already has your fingerprint so there's no point of being scared.
The think I like about the home button on the iPhone is that I press it to turn it on and I hold my finger/thumb there to unlock it. It takes less than half a second. That's why I like the apple one the best. Samsung Galaxy s6 is a good second though. Haven't tried the one plus two scanner yet.
Huawei Mate 7 has the best apparently
But huawei didn't give these guys a lot of money to do this kind of videos.
at's because you set a finger print on one plus two vertically, but when you are trying to unlock you put your fingers horizontally. that's the mistake, you didn't do that with iPhone.
the 6's fingerprint reader is also second gen compared to the first gen oneplus
What's the end track?!
Can you test the S6 too.
I am curious if it is as accurate or better than Touch ID
I set up my Fingerprint on my OnePlus 2 by registering the fingerprint for each finger in all possible ways I could touch. For me it works 10/10 times when the screen is on.
With the screen off though, it's a hit or a miss. It works about 7/10 times.
You cant compare an $800 phone to a $320 one.
Would you try this test again with OxygenOS 3? The fp scanner got way more faster than OxygenOS 2
Look how much longer it takes for the iPhone screen to unlock. Its not nearly as snappy as the One Plus when the One Plus works. I would take the One plus for the speed alone over the iphone scanner
Probably it depends how you do setup, If you scan you whole thumb from various angles, it might give you better chances of unlocking the phone
Why was Mark B doing weird angles with his thumb for the OnePlus 2? Bit of a flawed experiment tbh
OnePlus two has been out for a month while the iPhone 6 has been for nearly a year. There's bound to be a difference when you compare the two. That said, I'm sure the OnePlus 2 will get much better as time passes.
*Surface area, a thumb sits perfectly in a hemisphere*
they didn't say it is better. they says it's FASTER (at least the times that it works...)
I would like to see the same kind of test with the Galaxy S6.
Do this with the s6
+Mysteriousmustard No, fuck you.
Mysteriousmustard they wont because the love apple and know the s6 will beat it
+Ese Mapache that escalated quickly lol
The s6s fingerprint sensor is shit compared to apples
Ramon Teuling dude, how can you beat a 100% score? Weird guy...
Just tested my S6 and got 10/10
***** ***** I think it's a combination of both
Nana A. Boateng a compromise doesn't make a statement true. I doubt the software adapts to your fingerprint over time, the initial setup records it and then it just checks for it every time. How and why would it get better at doing that?
***** precisely!
For oneplus 2 , u dont need to open screen to put ur finger , just put ur finger when screen is off
I don't remember oneplus said they had the best finger print sensor they said it was faster then iPhone, I might be wrong but that's what I think they said
mark kept his finger at 3o clock the whole time while setting up the one plus phone. then immediately goes to six o clock from start to finish during Apple setup... bias from the start. Jon was the only one who did it correctly. you can also see marks finger during the one plus test starting at the bottom with only half his print on the button when starting the gesture then moving the rest of the finger on the circle mid way which would clearly mess it up and it did.
Apple has more experience in Touch ID fingerprint tech now while One Plus just launched this feature. With time I'm sure it will get better.
zorkor Its a good first attempt by 1+2 but its pretty hard to get on par with Apple. Especially since they already have 2 and a half years optimising it.
Wolves4ever 01 exactly.
Do a fingerprint sensor comparison w/ GS6.
Tip: You don't need to turn on the screen with the power button, +Oneplus 2 can detect fingerprints with screen off. :)
it unlocks pretty fast when it works
I had the IPhone 6 and almost always had a problem with the fingerprint scanner. I adjusted it, tried different fingers and no matter what it was just gimmicky. I just ended up turning it off. If the oneplus is worse, I wouldn't be using it either.
bc the apple is a smaller phone and easier to hold with one hand? You guys need to do it again and set some rules.
I saw behind the scenes on periscope!
thanks man..I had requested for this video previously.. thanks again
its probably not suited for such unhealthy fatty fingers :( thats why it was only 5 out of 10 need a big circle to register the fat :(
The Oneplus is definitely faster, but that doesn't mean shit if it doesn't properly detect your finger.
Wallpaper on the One Plus Two?
Please do a video against the s6 also!
I think in terms of speed the oneplus 2 did better than the iPhone 6 and please do a video with the s6
I have not used the oneplus 2 yet but I did have a lot of trouble with Touch ID on the iPhone, half the time it wouldn't work for me so I guess you guys got pretty good results. I cannot say the same.
I'd like to see the speed of the unlock using the touch,
First of all, just because the oneplus 2 doesnt say that you should use all the sides of your finger doesnt mean you should touch the very center of your thumb to it 40 times like all of you did in the video
Also completely left out the fact that you can do the Oneplus touch ID while the device is asleep as well....
The hell is wrong with your right sleeve
They said "faster"..?
do it with the s5, s6, note 4 and htc one max as well
