The Bugatti Type 35 is one of the most iconic and revered racing cars in motor racing history, both technically and competitively. Ettore Bugatti's masterpiece was a unique mix of engineering skill, design, elegance, speed and its relatively light weight. Produced during the 1920s, it won an incredible number of races in both “road” and “on track” competitions. The Bugatti was in fact specifically designed for the world of racing, which included the introduction of technical and mechanical solutions for the car that made it ideal for the racing circuits of the period. Aesthetically, it was universally known and recognizable by the unmistakable shape of the horseshoe-shaped radiator which was a key design feature of Bugatti as a car manufacturer. Due to its 2,263 cm3 8-cylinder engine with a four-speed mechanical gearbox and equipped with a volumetric compressor, the Bugatti Type 35B was able to attain a top speed of over 130 mph. It was produced in limited numbers until 1930.
The Bugatti Type 35 is an iconic race car design produced by Bugatti at their Molsheim premises between 1924 and 1930. It was extremely successful when raced by the factory works team. It was also bought by a diverse roster of privateer clientele from around the world. It pioneered the concept of a holistically conceived, race-ready car available for purchase.
The arch/egg-shaped[1] radiator is emblematic, as is the rear of the car. The tapered stern has been called a 'Bordino tail' and Ettore Bugatti may have been influenced by the shape of the earlier Fiat 804 driven and modified by Pietro Bordino.[2] The car has also become synonymous with being the first to use cast alloy wheels.[3][4]
The Type 35 was phenomenally successful, winning over 1,000 races in its time. It took the Grand Prix World Championship in 1926 after winning 351 races and setting 47 records in the two prior years. At its height the Type 35 averaged 14 race wins per week. Bugatti won the Targa Florio for five consecutive years, from 1925 through 1929, with the Type 35.[5]
The Bugatti Type 35 was continually being modified and improved upon, but broadly falls into the following nomenclature:
This original, defining model was introduced at the 1924 French Grand Prix, held at Lyon. The inaugural outing for the Type 35 was not a success due to fitment of badly-vulcanised Dunlop tyres.[3] Despite this, the model showed promise and became increasingly competitive with refinements being made.
The car used an evolution of the three-valve 2.0 L (1991 cc/121 in³) overhead cam straight-eight engine first seen on the Type 29. Bore was 60 mm and stroke was 88 mm as on many previous Bugatti models. [6]
This new powerplant featured a sophisticated roller bearing system, numbering five in total. This allowed the engine to rev to 6,000 rpm. Output was up to 90 hp (67 kW). The cable-operated drum brakes system was very popular and adaptable. Alloy wheels were a novelty, as was the hollow front axle for reduced unsprung weight. Another feature of the Type 35 that was to become a Bugatti trademark was passing the springs through the front axle rather than simply U-bolting them together as was done on their earlier cars.
Named by the factory "Type 35TC" (Targa Compressor), this most powerful version became known colloquially as the "T35B". It shared the 2.3 L engine of the Type 35T this time with a large supercharger added. Output was 138 hp (102 kW). A British Racing Green Type 35B driven by William Grover-Williams won the inaugural 1929 Monaco Grand Prix. While having more torque, the Type 35B did not rev as high and engine fuel consumption levels were such that the factory reverted to producing the T35C.
Around 37 Type 35B were produced.

It’s a great time to be a model kit enthusiast. The precision and detail that’s brought out with modern 3d laser scanning and printing along with modern tool and die castings make new model kits better than ever.

Great kit Chris. Bought 2 kits and build the Blue 1 already. Goes fairly easy together. And you can weather the engine and the rest of the car very nice. Just be sure it is standing on his 4 wheels. Mine was a bit warped. But with warm water and a bit time your will get it right

That kit is absolutely amazing. Excellent work on the molding of all of the parts and pieces. It appears to be well engineered, and should build into a very nice model. Thanks for sharing.

I have Italeri 1970s Fiat 500 ¹/₁₂ kit. Bought it 2nd hand at half a price. New ones are way over my budget.

The first model kit I had was when I was about three and it was a 35B that my dad built for me. As it was so delicate it sat on a small shelf over a door in the apartment where we lived up to 1971. I have no idea what happened to it but I recall it was red (unpainted) plastic and as with all his builds, caked in styrene glue! First time I have thought about it in 50+ years!

This new kit is a gift to car lovers!👍 Louver detail is gorgeous. I should point out that 1/12 is not twice the size of a 1/24 scale model. If we think in three dimensions, 2 x 2 x 2 makes it EIGHT times the volume of a 1/24 model. Anyone who has tried to fit one into their display cabinet quickly discovers this, though the 35b is a small vehicle even for a race car of the period.

I'd love to see you tackle this one - with some careful detail painting and weathering it looks almost like the real thing. It's also great to see that it's an all new model rather than a reissue dating back more than 40 years.

Monogram did a 35 in 24th scale. They can be found fairly easily and it's a really nice kit.

Hi, I noticed in lots of your builds you paint the parts before assembly. What adhesive do you use ?
I always thought you had to scrape off the paint before gluing, just a bit confused ! Thanks !

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  ปีที่แล้ว

I use Plastruct Bondene for bare plastic to plastic.
I use dollar store super glue for final assemblies, and I rarely scrape anyhing before gluing.

Cost of model through MRC is $294.99 😮. Some of Melissa McCarthy’s bar scene lines from her movie The Heat, come to mind when I see that price. “Is it a magic f’n model? Do I get a motorcycle with it? Is it served in Jesus’s shoe?”

Jay Leno has one of these. Actually he has 2.
He has an original. Then there is an argentine company called Pursang that makes an exact replica. He has the replica also
