You can throw rainbow stones down if they will break if you will die from fall damage. They will land and activate you will survive the fall. I use this sooo much
ironpineapple demonstrated that your attacks also wont take you over a ledge if it is a deadly one, so that is another way to check if you are out of the rainbow stones.
I like to believe the goats rolling away from the player is a cheeky reference to how souls players will often roll-spam away from tough enemies that they have no chance against.
While the whole game encourages roll spam due to how bosses work. Miyazaki is so far up his ass, he's not self aware. Ask the ridiculous amounts of poision/scarlet rot swamps.

You can buy a lantern from a merchant in the weeping peninsula. It works like a torch but it doesn’t take up a weapon slot. Definitely helps if you want to use a sword and shield or two-hand a weapon and still want to be able to see.
One of my favorite items. Simple, looks great, and makes sense. I think the torch, held up, still lights up more but then you don't need to give up another weapon or shield.
Really important tip, if you look on your map you can spot little ‘posts’ on the brown areas of the map. These are guide obelisks that always have a map fragment for the area, so if you’re a little lost try speed running to pick one up :)

Glow stone is an overlooked item, it's dirt cheap to make and with one stone you can light up the entire room before going in and allow you to spot whether there's an ambush ahead.
@@Spencer-wc6ew This is old "trick" from Souls games, but if you are not sure where you will jump to your death, just drop the glowstone and if it breaks, it means you will die from fall, if not, fall will not kill you.
When you enter mistwood, you will sometimes hear howling. If you talk to kale about it he will give you a finger snap gesture and told you to use it when you hear the howling again. If you do that a very neat Npc will spawn near the ruins, and you can talk to him.
Be careful fighting the bear there, he can get damaged and turn hostile before you've ever seen him. When I first saw him his name was red and I killed him. Thankfully he respawned but you won't be able to talk to him til you reach the church of vows a fair bit later into the game. Pretty lame that this can happen imo.
It's possible to fight the tutorial Grafted Scion and get those items after dying to it originally - it's through one of the portals at the Four Belfries. So you don't NEED to kill it first time to get that equipment.
I heard someone say that they are technically the same items you get but their design is a bit different compared to the ones u get from the actual tutorial boss.
They are the same I believe but by the time you get revenge on him you more than likely will have better equipment, and they will become just collectables in your chest.
My personal quest in playing this game has been to Git Gud and return to there. I crave revenge for that abomination killing me. I'm going to flog it to death with a whip.
Two more things worth mentioning: you can roll around like the rams shown in the beginning and also there is a torch that can show hidden and invisible things, one could buy it in the capital from a hermit vendor.

The thing with the messages always amazes me. As a non English speaker most times when I read them in Spanish and try to figure out what's the joke behind lol. The first time, and probably one of the most hilarious "translations", was playing Dark Souls. Just before Queelag fight were some messages saying "chest ahead" and all that king of variants. If you know what that means... haha! But in Spanish the "chest" for women's anatomy is a totally different word and DS's messaging system refers to the treasure chest, of course, and there I was looking for a treasure after defeating her... like, where's that "cofre más adelante" all those messages were pointing to??
[Kind of a spoiler for some "puzzles" you might come across in the mid-game] And when you do this (helmet and Erudtion gesture combo) in front of some of the sealed towers that say things like "Seek Erudition" it will unlock the seals.
QOL tip: when you open the map & open sites of Grace tab, if you press Square (or X for Xbox) it will take you to the Roundtable hold, so no need to drag all the way to the bottom corner to get there! Saved me in a pinch when trying to fast travel out of caves in a rush
To anyone struggling with the Crucible knight; Go and buy quickstep from the merchant mentioned in this video. For his two and three hit combos you always roll first, then quickstep the second attack. Though be ware that he will sometimes wait for you with the tailswipe, so don't use it prematurely.
You actually dont have to defeat the Grafted Scion in the beginning of the game to get the ornamented sword and his shield, there is a place in western Liurnia that allows you to port back there and defeat him if you werent sucessfull on your first try, but you need some key items for it that you can find in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. There are also a couple of items that are worth going back for, espially for a Quest which no one has finished yet.

3:04 So that's what happened. I returned to Limgrave to complete some quest just casually mowing down enemies as I rode by. I circle back around and then there was a giant bear there. I was just confused about how I missed that the first time. I was doubly confused when I received the larval tear after killing it.
In Ordina Liturgical Town's 'challenge' segment where you need to light 4 candles, there's these completely invisible enemies that will repeatedly backstab you. You can buy a Sentry Torch to reveal them and give you a fighting chance, even though they're still pretty hard. You can buy the Sentry Torch from a merchant on the grounds outside of the capital city.
The problem with the multiplayer overlay on the map, is that it shows the hotspots in general, not for your soul level, so even if an area is super active, you might be too high or too low to participate.
Hey sunlightblade, crucible knight gets a lot easier once you realize he's trying to teach you not to turtle and to use the jump button in combat not just the Dodge button.
for anyone who like me struggled with crucible knight, learn to parry him, parry about when his hand is in line with you, he is serious parry bait and I can parry him with 90% success
Holding down your heavy attack whilst riding will have you drag your weapon across that side, raking enemies as you pass. Really effective with a nice reaching weapon like a greatsword or halberd.
Coming back to Crucible Knight at level 65 with a Str/Fth glass cannon to mash him into the ground in 3 hits. Overkill wasn't enough to justify the number of times he killed me
You can redo the Grafted Scion fight in case you failed at the beginning, it's one of the teleporters at The Four Belfries. You will need an Imbued Sword Key, one of which can be found at the belfries.

Really obvious one that might still take you an hour or two to notice: The map is scattered with skulls. Some of them glow. If you either run over them with your horse, hit them with a weapon attack or roll over them, they'll drop a small golden rune. 200 runes are not that much, but it really adds up. Also, here's a random little detail: Some fogwall locks require two stonesword keys, which is signified by having two of those little gargoyls stacked on top of each other.
there's always two gargoyles, the way to know how many stoneswords you need is by looking at their heads. if you need one the bottom gargoyle will already have a stonesword lodged in its head, if you need two neither of them will have one.
Depends on the boss and the attack. Take Margitt for example, assuming you have little to no poise the holy daggers will almost always stagger you if they hit. If you use the buff however they wont! That being said if he swings his hammer or staff at you you'll probably still end up being staggered regardless of the buff. Melania also has low poise damage on her attacks making poise buffs very useful for not getting stunlocked to death.
It still gives that 30% physical damage negation buff though so i mean until late game that damage negation is worth more than 5% hp unless you stack vigor at the beginning.
So an interesting detail At 5:50 the cave cannot be entered from that side because the area requires a stonesword key to be used. The imp statue is at the other end of the cave. That is why the fog is white (rather than the usual ER yellow). Perhaps after you use the stonesword you can enter from either end? (just a theory, would love to know if works!)
Yeah it’s not yellow cause the exit of that cave shown is not the exit of the boss room. You enter in caelid and then that exit is just next to the boss room. There’s also a nice NPC in there by the exit if you’ve got his quest going.
Same, lvl 55 and just found Weeping Peninsula. Ugh Limgrave has got a death grip on me and i just cant leave until its cleared. I just cant. Lol i only have a few hrs after work to play each day so progress is rare.
You can go back to the starting area by heading to the four belfries newr liurna lake. You can go kill the leg man thing and get revenge. He still drops the weapons too. There's also some interesting items lying there for your return. Just use the special key on the anticipation belfry :) The key is an imbued sword key, you get one for free in the area
Literally the best tip came at last. If a boss is to strong for you go somewhere else. It is a big open world where you can get better stuff and some level's. Remembering this is always helpful or i would still be there try to beat Margit.
Hey sunlight, did you know that in the multiplayer settings you can set a group password that will focus on showing other group member messages, death stains and summons? It also adds whenever a group member slays a shardbearer or beats the game. And it does it all without locking you out of all the other messages/summons
I remember I came across that one soldier yesterday and I killed him like normal and then a big fog cloud apperared and BAM he transformed into a giant bear and started kicking my ass
8:15 If you wanna stop dying to the Crucible Knight, there’s a spot along the rim of the Evergaol where he gets stuck on the terrain, allowing you to spam him to death with spells, arrows, and pots. Just run clockwise around the arena and you’ll catch him when you reach the treeline.
Blood hounds fang is a damn good weapon. Have it +6 or 7 rn and it slaps. My damage output is crazy. Couple it with rotten breath and lion great bow and my build is perfect for all ranges.
The beast repellent torch looks very similar to the Bloodborne torch too Also on the map, if you press triangle (or the x box equivalent is) it gives you a list of all the unlocked grace sites on the map, very similar to the old bonfire warping lists. You can also “mark” sites of grace in this list by pressing R3 on your currently highlighted grace, and if you then press triangle again, it gives you a list of all the graces you marked. If anything, this list is useful for just not needing to scroll aaaaaall the way over to the Roundtable Hold every time you want to upgrade something.
The dismounting horse cliff fall can actually be done 100% safely by just jumping up to it from the beach! That's how I got there originally, had no idea people were trying to fall down. Another thing that I've found, at least in my experience, a lot of people miss is dragging your weapon on horseback. Holding the strong attack (L for left, R for right) will hold the weapon down on the ground. Not only is this a charge attack, but if you ride by any enemies while it's down you'll slice through them and do a fair amount of damage. Really useful for groups of enemies/hunting wildlife since you can slice through them all in a quick runby without having to time it.
@@randrei001 Yeah I think there's a few different ones. Scythes can't do it at all because its held in the air. Whips are held in the right position, but don't do dmg, they do have a big aoe though.
"Inseparable Sword" can permanently kill Undead enemies without actually having to use Special Moves/buff just like what is written on it's description.
@@liamnehren1054 I know the occult affinity gives innate holy damage and occult will keep undead from rising up, but holy damage itself is not the value that keeps undead down.
I use the Sacred Sword Ash of War on my shortsword to permanently kill respawning skeletons. It was essential to beating the Tibia Mariner in Summonwater.
Interesting fact about golden sword from grafted scion. It gets a completely unique charged attack when buffed. Only works when you use the buff on swords
Theres a lot of enemies like the bear. If they transform they will drop the larva tear, its an environmental story-telling thing if you're following the lore
Up North West of Leyndel theres an enemy that transforms into a ghost version of Godrick, same movement and everything. Its in an area with lots of holes in the earth.
The cliff jump, you can also access it jumping up with torrent from the bottom/beach. Take advantage of the Rock on the ground to the left and try to get torrent to jump on the rocks from left to right. He will catch on 2 rocks that will help get you over the ledge
@@ether287 You have to clip the wall to dismount, you cannot dismount midair. Clipping a wall does not reset Torrent's fall damage, but does let you dismount
Crucible Knights are embarrasingly easy to parry. Also, you didn't mention the weather changes and their effects: rain makes fire less effective, while making lightning more so. There is a blood rain that will debuff your prowess and when the erdtree leaves fall, you gain more runes from kills.
Man, I fought the crucible knight for SO many times. I wasn’t gonna give up, I went full ego on him. He probably killed me 50 times until I memorized all his movements to perfection and I killed him. Not worthy at all lol

Do you mean you can farm them from an enemy or you just find plenty of them late game? Because ive been trying different weapon and stat builds and Im starting to run out of larval tears

AND THEN, pain again when my Faith (at the time) isn't high enough to use the tail whip followed by relief when it is there and finally an empty feeling when I find the tail attack not useful enough to add to my utility belt of moves. Theres another guy that transform into a bear on the Consecrated Snowfield. Hes stuck in the snow and only his upper body sticks out, another enemy is next to him trying to dig him out. And yes the bear there also drops a Larval Tear
Thank you so much for producing and posting this guide. ProTip #4: Undead & Crystallian creatures have no resistance against strike/blunt weapons. Before entering caves, tunnels or catacombs having a hammer, mace or any weapon that does strike damage will be of great benefit. Fire is also a useful element against undead based creatures and most animals. Gravitas & gravity based spells or AoW is also beneficial in dispatching flying creatures.
You know, tip videos like this, segregated by area to area, would be a nice deal for viewers that wants to avoid spoilers on areas they've never been to.
Honestly, I'm not really patient enough to play any of the souls-like games. I can play rogue-like fps games, but that's normally because of the fast paced gameplay that I like so much. But I remember watching most of your videos when you made videos for the souls games and I couldn't stop watching them. I don't really feel like I have the time to play a game like this but I know I always enjoy your videos, so that's dark-souls for me. Your videos. And I'm fine with it. It's proved to be quite entertaining to watch during my college years, so I can't wait till the duel videos get started.
At 6:00 you mention getting to this cliff by dropping down from the footholds above, BUT you can also climb the foothold below it, close to the oceanside cliff. That's how I discovered it, by climbing with the horse up to it, no deaths. Still couldn't pass the fog wall though, haven't found the normal way through.

1:00 You don't need the torch for that, at least if you have the basic faith for the Fireball spell...it also explodes them from a distance without having to risk it hurting you.
The beast repellant torch even works on T-dogs (you'll know what I mean if you've into them), which I'd say is a lot more helpful since I personally find them far more terrifying than other animals (except big ol bruddah bear)

I feel so validated knowing some one else has struggled with the crucible Knight. This isn't even the one that was tough for me. It was the one at Redmane castle that also had a misbegotten warrior for the first 30 seconds. I didn't know there were so many crucible knights.... There's also a named one too I saw that is accompanied by a regular one too FML! I love this game
Funny how you mentioned the crucible knight. I actually spend like 3 hours learning how to parry in general and how to parry him to the point i beat him with just parries. Bear in mind i was dealing like 170 damage per parry, and i think i needed to parry him over 30times in total. So yeah i was stubborn but holy shit it was worth it when i beat him.
Quick tip, every time you parry him, doing a charged heavy attack is better than doing a crit. You only do slightly less damage, you damage his poise, he recovers far quicker reducing the time wasted in the crit animation, and when you finally do break his poise with a heavy attack you can do a crit to land a heavy+crit on the parry. Also, if you're playing with an uchigatana, the quickdraw sends him flying when his poise is broken and that feels extremely satisfying :)
One thing that I've seen almost no one mention (I don't know if it's common knowledge but everyone I've told so far didn't know) is that the brown obelisk symbol on an unmapped region marks the location of the map fragment
@@nahlies2382 Ya. One goes down to the beach bext to the forest and is one way, the other goes to the area up on the cliff, pretty far east from stormveil.
Adding a strike type weapon early on will make a lot of enemies easier, especially in the catacombs and caves/tunnels. There are three weapons you can get early on. The club from selecting the Wretch, a mace you can buy in the Roundtable Hold once you have access to it, and a flail that can be looted from one of the stagecoaches in Limgrave, specifically in the Gatefront Ruins. Mace is more Strength leaning and will bounce off stone type enemies but does full damage. The flail is Dexterity leaning but doesn't bounce off enemies and has a bleed effect, along with doing full damage and can't be parried. Even magic builds benefit from picking one up and 2 handing it if necessary.
The flail is good against giants on horseback too. When you charge up a strong attack, you spin the ball on its chain, and doing that near an enemy will quickly build up bleed on them
6:00 that was really good to know, I didn’t even think about dismounting going towards falls, but there’s a much easier way to Skyrim horse your way upwards from that beach down there. There are messages showing the spots you can do it at
If you really wanted to go there right in the beginning, then yeah, sure. You could do that cliff climb. But the sword isn't something you'll be able to use right away, and there's a bunch of good shit in that cave. And you can almost as easily just speedrun to and through that cave. So the skyrim-ing your way up the cliff is unnecessary
@@theoneandonlyjulian it is called gaol cave. You can get there through an entrance from the swamp of aeonia, but you need at least 1 stonesword key, it might've been 2, I can't remember. I believe there's a video showing you how to do this on YT
The skeletons; after you first kill them, their soul will still be there with their bones. Glows white and blue, you can actually attack that with a melee weapon and it will kill then for good. I do not know if magic works the same, but good luck! And good hunting 🤘🏻
@5:15 if you lure Eleonora to that exact ledge, there's a lip just below you where you can respite at & make her fall to her death. Fog door is an exit of boss room accessible via stone key BTW Cool vid 👍
there's a ravine in Caelid that you're normally supposed to access from an underground elevator from siofra river. However, if you're stubborn enough, you can actually access it from the poison swamp if you know where to jump.
I saw someone get pounced by the weak enemy that turned into a giant bear, and I had no idea how it happened as I had never killed that guy. I did find some other enemies like that later on though. You can also get up to the ledge at the third church of marika from the bottom, not just the top. It takes a while to find the angle, but it's much safer. I was even able to fight the boss in there at the time (maybe that's changed now) Just be careful not to die up there as the stake of marika will dump you in a high level cave with no clear way to get out.
Wait that's where the bear came from? I was mowing down those jerks with spells moving onto the next one before the previous one hit the floor. then suddenly... BEAR! Scarred the crap out of me.
I am duel wielding an Uchigatana and Nagakiba with the full Banished Knight Armor set, except for the gauntlets. My gauntlets are Godrick Knight gauntlets.
Your comment about the Crucible Knight really hits home. I encountered him after having spent my entire first 5 hours trying to beat the Tree Sentinel straight out of the tutorial area. I think I died to the Crucible Knight over 100x because I would do it after having come home from work at 12-1am and just proceed to hit my head against his shield, tail, sword, stomp....
The Blessing that the death lady gives you also increases physical damage negation by 30%. Also if you hug her a certain amount of times while you progress through the story bosses she will give you a dagger which if the dagger is given to D he will die and you get his armour set.
You don't need to kill any Great Rune Bosses. Just progress North and ascend to Atlus. Then most NPC quests will begin their next arch. Just leave Godfrey to the very last and speak with the Finger Reader after getting two Great Rune, excluding Godfrey. In order to obtain all 4 Talisman Slots. Godfrey gives you the last Slot and Margit gives you the second Slot.
I'm 50 hours in and I never knew the baldachin's blessing gives you debuff. Then again it's only 5% so I guess it's understandable that I didn't realize

I went back to Kalé after a while, and he had a new dialogue option, giving me a snapping emote, saying to use it in the forest when the wolfs howl. I tried it multiple times with no effect. Does anyone know what is this all about?
Some armor will add a stat increase or have some sort of an effect. One of the early game’s enemies chest armor adds 1 stat to Int. Some minor spoilers ahead. The NPC that can level up your ashes drops her hood in Storm Veil castle after you complete her mini quest. After you do the mini quest that lets her level up your ashes, go to the room in the castle that has some dogs eating a dead giant. Her hood will be on the pile. I’m not sure why it’s there, but it is.
If you meet her in the abandoned shack in Stormhill prior to entering the castle she tells you her followers were taken into the castle to be grafted. You find her quest item on that pile of meat and when returned to her she has additional dialogue.
The crucible night at the bottom of Godrick’s Castle is my nemesis. I nearly killed it first time. Had it to 10% and died like an idiot. And now I can’t get below half
I brought him to the lift that brings you back up the tower to the site of Grace, activated it, and jumped off after we gained a small amount of height. He followed, but the loft had gone too high and he died on impact with the ground 🤣
Trying getting moonviel and hitting him with its magic attack after he trys to stab you, hell die after like 12 hits. Youll probably need atleast 3 or 4 blue flasks to have enough magic to finish him.
A very easy cheese: you know how you fall all the way down to that bottom area, then you have to cross a narrow cliff-face ledge to where the Crucible Knight is waiting with his back turned? He can't cross the ledge. Go over to him, whack him once, turn around, run back across the ledge, and cheese away.
I've found some nice fast-travelling tips that are very useful. 1. On the map screen you can press Y to bring up a list of Graces and from that screen you can press X to travel to Roundtable hold (Thanks Zhnigo). So instead of selecting that grace manually on the map you just press Y,X,A to quickly fast-travel there. You can also mark gracesthat you visit often (By pressing R3) and by pressing Y a second time you get a list of only your marked graces. (For PS users Y=Triangle, X=Square, A=Cross) 2. When you clear a minor dungeon boss you can return to entrance using that light thingy, but after defeating the boss you're actually able to use map fast-travel while in the boss room. 3. Not fast-travel related, but if you fail to kill a scarab beetle you can quit out to make it respawn, just like with crystal lizards in Dark Souls.
the roundtable hold has its own shortcut, Y,X,A (triangle square cross) how people know about the grace list and marking but don't know about this is beyond me, the controls are all there on the screen
8:18 You can get him stuck on the rocks in the area near the walled circle. Just have to watch out for his earthquake ground attack but other than that he'll never be able to hit you.

Really important tip, if you look on your map you can spot little ‘posts’ on the brown areas of the map. These are guide obelisks that always have a map fragment for the area, so if you’re a little lost try speed running to pick one up :)

Glow stone is an overlooked item, it's dirt cheap to make and with one stone you can light up the entire room before going in and allow you to spot whether there's an ambush ahead.
Yeah, they are surprisingly bright. Whenever I have to drop down a hole in some cave, I'll throw a glow stone in and it helps a ton

@@Spencer-wc6ew This is old "trick" from Souls games, but if you are not sure where you will jump to your death, just drop the glowstone and if it breaks, it means you will die from fall, if not, fall will not kill you.

When you enter mistwood, you will sometimes hear howling. If you talk to kale about it he will give you a finger snap gesture and told you to use it when you hear the howling again. If you do that a very neat Npc will spawn near the ruins, and you can talk to him.
He on top of the ruines, he jump down, you can see him up there!

Be careful fighting the bear there, he can get damaged and turn hostile before you've ever seen him. When I first saw him his name was red and I killed him. Thankfully he respawned but you won't be able to talk to him til you reach the church of vows a fair bit later into the game.
Pretty lame that this can happen imo.

It's possible to fight the tutorial Grafted Scion and get those items after dying to it originally - it's through one of the portals at the Four Belfries. So you don't NEED to kill it first time to get that equipment.
I heard someone say that they are technically the same items you get but their design is a bit different compared to the ones u get from the actual tutorial boss.

They are the same I believe but by the time you get revenge on him you more than likely will have better equipment, and they will become just collectables in your chest.

Yeah those duel swords the grafted scion drops are really. Nice have been using the craps outta them.
Two more things worth mentioning: you can roll around like the rams shown in the beginning and also there is a torch that can show hidden and invisible things, one could buy it in the capital from a hermit vendor.

The thing with the messages always amazes me. As a non English speaker most times when I read them in Spanish and try to figure out what's the joke behind lol. The first time, and probably one of the most hilarious "translations", was playing Dark Souls. Just before Queelag fight were some messages saying "chest ahead" and all that king of variants. If you know what that means... haha! But in Spanish the "chest" for women's anatomy is a totally different word and DS's messaging system refers to the treasure chest, of course, and there I was looking for a treasure after defeating her... like, where's that "cofre más adelante" all those messages were pointing to??

QOL tip: when you open the map & open sites of Grace tab, if you press Square (or X for Xbox) it will take you to the Roundtable hold, so no need to drag all the way to the bottom corner to get there! Saved me in a pinch when trying to fast travel out of caves in a rush

For his two and three hit combos you always roll first, then quickstep the second attack. Though be ware that he will sometimes wait for you with the tailswipe, so don't use it prematurely.

You actually dont have to defeat the Grafted Scion in the beginning of the game to get the ornamented sword and his shield, there is a place in western Liurnia that allows you to port back there and defeat him if you werent sucessfull on your first try, but you need some key items for it that you can find in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. There are also a couple of items that are worth going back for, espially for a Quest which no one has finished yet.
You can loot the key needed to tp back also from the same area the tp is. If you pick the right one. Hahah

3:04 So that's what happened. I returned to Limgrave to complete some quest just casually mowing down enemies as I rode by. I circle back around and then there was a giant bear there.
I was just confused about how I missed that the first time. I was doubly confused when I received the larval tear after killing it.
In Ordina Liturgical Town's 'challenge' segment where you need to light 4 candles, there's these completely invisible enemies that will repeatedly backstab you. You can buy a Sentry Torch to reveal them and give you a fighting chance, even though they're still pretty hard. You can buy the Sentry Torch from a merchant on the grounds outside of the capital city.
The problem with the multiplayer overlay on the map, is that it shows the hotspots in general, not for your soul level, so even if an area is super active, you might be too high or too low to participate.
Probably explains why I couldn't do invasions for varre 😑

Hey sunlightblade, crucible knight gets a lot easier once you realize he's trying to teach you not to turtle and to use the jump button in combat not just the Dodge button.
Also he's one of the easiest bosses to parry that I've encountered thus far, and I'm no parry god

Same, this is how I beat him. I barely tries to parry enemies before either, so you don't need to be super skilled at parrying to pull it off

looks like I'll be deequipping my "no skill" ash from my shield today and giving it a go
I beat him by using the Lordsworn Great Shield with the Barricade Ash of War, and learning the best times to dodge and turtle up.
Holding down your heavy attack whilst riding will have you drag your weapon across that side, raking enemies as you pass. Really effective with a nice reaching weapon like a greatsword or halberd.
I don't mind the debuff from my favorite npc, she really helped me when I was too stressed with a certain boss/area
When he mentioned dying to the crucible knight and being too stubborn to come back later I felt that with every part of my soul. It took me hours.

Coming back to Crucible Knight at level 65 with a Str/Fth glass cannon to mash him into the ground in 3 hits. Overkill wasn't enough to justify the number of times he killed me
You can redo the Grafted Scion fight in case you failed at the beginning, it's one of the teleporters at The Four Belfries. You will need an Imbued Sword Key, one of which can be found at the belfries.

Really obvious one that might still take you an hour or two to notice: The map is scattered with skulls. Some of them glow. If you either run over them with your horse, hit them with a weapon attack or roll over them, they'll drop a small golden rune. 200 runes are not that much, but it really adds up.
Also, here's a random little detail: Some fogwall locks require two stonesword keys, which is signified by having two of those little gargoyls stacked on top of each other.
there's always two gargoyles, the way to know how many stoneswords you need is by looking at their heads. if you need one the bottom gargoyle will already have a stonesword lodged in its head, if you need two neither of them will have one.

The Baldachin's blessing unfortunately does not work for bosses, they do too much poise damage for this blessing to be useful.
Depends on the boss and the attack. Take Margitt for example, assuming you have little to no poise the holy daggers will almost always stagger you if they hit. If you use the buff however they wont! That being said if he swings his hammer or staff at you you'll probably still end up being staggered regardless of the buff.
Melania also has low poise damage on her attacks making poise buffs very useful for not getting stunlocked to death.
It still gives that 30% physical damage negation buff though so i mean until late game that damage negation is worth more than 5% hp unless you stack vigor at the beginning.
It only occurred to me today, but the reason those transforming enemies drop Larval Tears is because they were granted rebirth, too!
I honestly love how there's literally a torch set of weapons in this game.
There's a torch spear that you can get as well. It's classified as a spear but is just a really long torch.
So an interesting detail At 5:50 the cave cannot be entered from that side because the area requires a stonesword key to be used. The imp statue is at the other end of the cave. That is why the fog is white (rather than the usual ER yellow). Perhaps after you use the stonesword you can enter from either end? (just a theory, would love to know if works!)
It dispels the fog entirely, yes. The cave's entrance is actually in Caelid.
Yeah it’s not yellow cause the exit of that cave shown is not the exit of the boss room. You enter in caelid and then that exit is just next to the boss room. There’s also a nice NPC in there by the exit if you’ve got his quest going.

Same, lvl 55 and just found Weeping Peninsula. Ugh Limgrave has got a death grip on me and i just cant leave until its cleared. I just cant. Lol i only have a few hrs after work to play each day so progress is rare.
You can go back to the starting area by heading to the four belfries newr liurna lake. You can go kill the leg man thing and get revenge. He still drops the weapons too. There's also some interesting items lying there for your return. Just use the special key on the anticipation belfry :)
The key is an imbued sword key, you get one for free in the area
The resurrecting skeletons can be killed permanently if you hit them while they're coming back together but before their health bar refills.
Using the Holy blade ash of war will kill then permanently the first time. They never resurrect
If you hit them with even 1 point of holy damage they won't resurrect

Literally the best tip came at last. If a boss is to strong for you go somewhere else. It is a big open world where you can get better stuff and some level's. Remembering this is always helpful or i would still be there try to beat Margit.
Hey sunlight, did you know that in the multiplayer settings you can set a group password that will focus on showing other group member messages, death stains and summons? It also adds whenever a group member slays a shardbearer or beats the game. And it does it all without locking you out of all the other messages/summons
You also get a buff that increases rune gain, have a look under your stamina bar next time it happens, it's a little gold foot.

250 hours into the game and there's still things I'm learning, like the torch trick for the miners and the transforming bear.
I remember I came across that one soldier yesterday and I killed him like normal and then a big fog cloud apperared and BAM he transformed into a giant bear and started kicking my ass
He just respecced using the larval tear.
You are able to climb up that cliff by the Marika church by approaching it from the right side kinda in the water on Torrent as well!
8:15 If you wanna stop dying to the Crucible Knight, there’s a spot along the rim of the Evergaol where he gets stuck on the terrain, allowing you to spam him to death with spells, arrows, and pots. Just run clockwise around the arena and you’ll catch him when you reach the treeline.
Honestly its really worth just learning how to parry him. He's really easy and parrying him will give players lots of confidence

Blood hounds fang is a damn good weapon. Have it +6 or 7 rn and it slaps. My damage output is crazy. Couple it with rotten breath and lion great bow and my build is perfect for all ranges.
I've been running Bloodhounds Fang and the Jellyfish Shield for most of my playthrough. It's too fun and good for me to want to try other combinations
The beast repellent torch looks very similar to the Bloodborne torch too
Also on the map, if you press triangle (or the x box equivalent is) it gives you a list of all the unlocked grace sites on the map, very similar to the old bonfire warping lists. You can also “mark” sites of grace in this list by pressing R3 on your currently highlighted grace, and if you then press triangle again, it gives you a list of all the graces you marked.
If anything, this list is useful for just not needing to scroll aaaaaall the way over to the Roundtable Hold every time you want to upgrade something.

The dismounting horse cliff fall can actually be done 100% safely by just jumping up to it from the beach! That's how I got there originally, had no idea people were trying to fall down. Another thing that I've found, at least in my experience, a lot of people miss is dragging your weapon on horseback. Holding the strong attack (L for left, R for right) will hold the weapon down on the ground. Not only is this a charge attack, but if you ride by any enemies while it's down you'll slice through them and do a fair amount of damage. Really useful for groups of enemies/hunting wildlife since you can slice through them all in a quick runby without having to time it.
It's different with a spear type weapon, just imagine jousting
@@randrei001 Yeah I think there's a few different ones. Scythes can't do it at all because its held in the air. Whips are held in the right position, but don't do dmg, they do have a big aoe though.
"Inseparable Sword" can permanently kill Undead enemies without actually having to use Special Moves/buff just like what is written on it's description.
the last hit with holy damage really but the pots are pretty useless for a strength build later on. "Try Holy" "Try ash of war"

I use the Sacred Sword Ash of War on my shortsword to permanently kill respawning skeletons. It was essential to beating the Tibia Mariner in Summonwater.
Interesting fact about golden sword from grafted scion. It gets a completely unique charged attack when buffed.

Theres a lot of enemies like the bear. If they transform they will drop the larva tear, its an environmental story-telling thing if you're following the lore
So THAT'S WHY it's so common in Nokrom.
Up North West of Leyndel theres an enemy that transforms into a ghost version of Godrick, same movement and everything. Its in an area with lots of holes in the earth.

The cliff jump, you can also access it jumping up with torrent from the bottom/beach. Take advantage of the Rock on the ground to the left and try to get torrent to jump on the rocks from left to right. He will catch on 2 rocks that will help get you over the ledge

@@ether287 You have to clip the wall to dismount, you cannot dismount midair. Clipping a wall does not reset Torrent's fall damage, but does let you dismount
Crucible Knight is a Pontiff/Gwyn situation; you can parry him to make the fight several times easier
I used to just do dodges, but Hoarfrost Stomp is pretty effective ash of war.
Crucible Knights are embarrasingly easy to parry.
Also, you didn't mention the weather changes and their effects: rain makes fire less effective, while making lightning more so. There is a blood rain that will debuff your prowess and when the erdtree leaves fall, you gain more runes from kills.
Man, I fought the crucible knight for SO many times. I wasn’t gonna give up, I went full ego on him. He probably killed me 50 times until I memorized all his movements to perfection and I killed him. Not worthy at all lol

Theres another guy that transform into a bear on the Consecrated Snowfield. Hes stuck in the snow and only his upper body sticks out, another enemy is next to him trying to dig him out. And yes the bear there also drops a Larval Tear
Thank you so much for producing and posting this guide. ProTip #4: Undead & Crystallian creatures have no resistance against strike/blunt weapons. Before entering caves, tunnels or catacombs having a hammer, mace or any weapon that does strike damage will be of great benefit. Fire is also a useful element against undead based creatures and most animals. Gravitas & gravity based spells or AoW is also beneficial in dispatching flying creatures.
5:50 you can get to that ledge from the ground up (right next to the waters edge there are some ledges) its much easier.
This, you might even see a trail of blood leading up the cliff from the beach. Hilarious discovery.

Honestly, I'm not really patient enough to play any of the souls-like games. I can play rogue-like fps games, but that's normally because of the fast paced gameplay that I like so much. But I remember watching most of your videos when you made videos for the souls games and I couldn't stop watching them. I don't really feel like I have the time to play a game like this but I know I always enjoy your videos, so that's dark-souls for me. Your videos. And I'm fine with it. It's proved to be quite entertaining to watch during my college years, so I can't wait till the duel videos get started.
At 6:00 you mention getting to this cliff by dropping down from the footholds above, BUT you can also climb the foothold below it, close to the oceanside cliff. That's how I discovered it, by climbing with the horse up to it, no deaths. Still couldn't pass the fog wall though, haven't found the normal way through.

You don't need the torch for that, at least if you have the basic faith for the Fireball spell...it also explodes them from a distance without having to risk it hurting you.
The beast repellant torch even works on T-dogs (you'll know what I mean if you've into them), which I'd say is a lot more helpful since I personally find them far more terrifying than other animals (except big ol bruddah bear)

I feel so validated knowing some one else has struggled with the crucible Knight. This isn't even the one that was tough for me. It was the one at Redmane castle that also had a misbegotten warrior for the first 30 seconds. I didn't know there were so many crucible knights.... Funny how you mentioned the crucible knight. I actually spend like 3 hours learning how to parry in general and how to parry him to the point i beat him with just parries. Bear in mind i was dealing like 170 damage per parry, and i think i needed to parry him over 30times in total. So yeah i was stubborn but holy shit it was worth it when i beat him.

It's 15 parry with a base dagger to kill him
Quick tip, every time you parry him, doing a charged heavy attack is better than doing a crit. You only do slightly less damage, you damage his poise, he recovers far quicker reducing the time wasted in the crit animation, and when you finally do break his poise with a heavy attack you can do a crit to land a heavy+crit on the parry. Also, if you're playing with an uchigatana, the quickdraw sends him flying when his poise is broken and that feels extremely satisfying :)
One thing that I've seen almost no one mention (I don't know if it's common knowledge but everyone I've told so far didn't know) is that the brown obelisk symbol on an unmapped region marks the location of the map fragment

Adding a strike type weapon early on will make a lot of enemies easier, especially in the catacombs and caves/tunnels. There are three weapons you can get early on. The club from selecting the Wretch, a mace you can buy in the Roundtable Hold once you have access to it, and a flail that can be looted from one of the stagecoaches in Limgrave, specifically in the Gatefront Ruins. Mace is more Strength leaning and will bounce off stone type enemies but does full damage. The flail is Dexterity leaning but doesn't bounce off enemies and has a bleed effect, along with doing full damage and can't be parried. Even magic builds benefit from picking one up and 2 handing it if necessary.
The flail is good against giants on horseback too.
When you charge up a strong attack, you spin the ball on its chain, and doing that near an enemy will quickly build up bleed on them
@@Spencer-wc6ew I forgot to add that. Makes a lot of larger enemies and those on horseback easier to kill too if you get each swing to hit.

If you really wanted to go there right in the beginning, then yeah, sure. You could do that cliff climb. But the sword isn't something you'll be able to use right away, and there's a bunch of good shit in that cave. And you can almost as easily just speedrun to and through that cave. So the skyrim-ing your way up the cliff is unnecessary

@@theoneandonlyjulian it is called gaol cave. You can get there through an entrance from the swamp of aeonia, but you need at least 1 stonesword key, it might've been 2, I can't remember. I believe there's a video showing you how to do this on YT
The skeletons; after you first kill them, their soul will still be there with their bones. Glows white and blue, you can actually attack that with a melee weapon and it will kill then for good. I do not know if magic works the same, but good luck! And good hunting 🤘🏻

there's a ravine in Caelid that you're normally supposed to access from an underground elevator from siofra river. However, if you're stubborn enough, you can actually access it from the poison swamp if you know where to jump.
I saw someone get pounced by the weak enemy that turned into a giant bear, and I had no idea how it happened as I had never killed that guy. I did find some other enemies like that later on though.
You can also get up to the ledge at the third church of marika from the bottom, not just the top. It takes a while to find the angle, but it's much safer. I was even able to fight the boss in there at the time (maybe that's changed now) Just be careful not to die up there as the stake of marika will dump you in a high level cave with no clear way to get out.
What's the name of the cave? I might have missed that one.
You can still get to the ledge from the bottom but cannot get in the cave (it took me ages to get the angle right)

If you put markers in the map, simply walking over them will remove it from your map

Your comment about the Crucible Knight really hits home. I encountered him after having spent my entire first 5 hours trying to beat the Tree Sentinel straight out of the tutorial area. I think I died to the Crucible Knight over 100x because I would do it after having come home from work at 12-1am and just proceed to hit my head against his shield, tail, sword, stomp....
The Blessing that the death lady gives you also increases physical damage negation by 30%. Also if you hug her a certain amount of times while you progress through the story bosses she will give you a dagger which if the dagger is given to D he will die and you get his armour set.
Not only that she's important for the death rune mending ending and to go into her "dreams" to fight s hidden dragon boss you need for an achievement.
There's specific things you have to do to get the dagger from her, not just get hugged a bunch of times. That doesn't do anything.
You don't need to kill any Great Rune Bosses. Just progress North and ascend to Atlus. Then most NPC quests will begin their next arch.
Just leave Godfrey to the very last and speak with the Finger Reader after getting two Great Rune, excluding Godfrey. In order to obtain all 4 Talisman Slots. Godfrey gives you the last Slot and Margit gives you the second Slot.
It's not related to number of hugs, but specific progress checkpoints.

I'm 50 hours in and I never knew the baldachin's blessing gives you debuff. Then again it's only 5% so I guess it's understandable that I didn't realize

I went back to Kalé after a while, and he had a new dialogue option, giving me a snapping emote, saying to use it in the forest when the wolfs howl. I tried it multiple times with no effect. Does anyone know what is this all about?
Go to the ruins in the forest where you heard the howling, then after you use the emote an npc will appear there

Some armor will add a stat increase or have some sort of an effect. One of the early game’s enemies chest armor adds 1 stat to Int. Some minor spoilers ahead.
The NPC that can level up your ashes drops her hood in Storm Veil castle after you complete her mini quest. After you do the mini quest that lets her level up your ashes, go to the room in the castle that has some dogs eating a dead giant. Her hood will be on the pile. I’m not sure why it’s there, but it is.
If you meet her in the abandoned shack in Stormhill prior to entering the castle she tells you her followers were taken into the castle to be grafted. You find her quest item on that pile of meat and when returned to her she has additional dialogue.

The crucible night at the bottom of Godrick’s Castle is my nemesis. I nearly killed it first time. Had it to 10% and died like an idiot. And now I can’t get below half
Yeah I feel you there. Took a few more tries using the Bloody Slash Art of War. He's not resistant to it at all.
I brought him to the lift that brings you back up the tower to the site of Grace, activated it, and jumped off after we gained a small amount of height. He followed, but the loft had gone too high and he died on impact with the ground 🤣
Trying getting moonviel and hitting him with its magic attack after he trys to stab you, hell die after like 12 hits. Youll probably need atleast 3 or 4 blue flasks to have enough magic to finish him.
Lead him to the elevator. Take it up and he will fall down the shaft 🤷♂️
A very easy cheese: you know how you fall all the way down to that bottom area, then you have to cross a narrow cliff-face ledge to where the Crucible Knight is waiting with his back turned? He can't cross the ledge. Go over to him, whack him once, turn around, run back across the ledge, and cheese away.
I've found some nice fast-travelling tips that are very useful.
1. On the map screen you can press Y to bring up a list of Graces and from that screen you can press X to travel to Roundtable hold (Thanks Zhnigo). So instead of selecting that grace manually on the map you just press Y,X,A to quickly fast-travel there. You can also mark gracesthat you visit often (By pressing R3) and by pressing Y a second time you get a list of only your marked graces.
(For PS users Y=Triangle, X=Square, A=Cross)
2. When you clear a minor dungeon boss you can return to entrance using that light thingy, but after defeating the boss you're actually able to use map fast-travel while in the boss room.
3. Not fast-travel related, but if you fail to kill a scarab beetle you can quit out to make it respawn, just like with crystal lizards in Dark Souls.
the roundtable hold has its own shortcut, Y,X,A (triangle square cross)
how people know about the grace list and marking but don't know about this is beyond me, the controls are all there on the screen

8:18 You can get him stuck on the rocks in the area near the walled circle. Just have to watch out for his earthquake ground attack but other than that he'll never be able to hit you.
Tip: The reason dismounting lets you live mid fall is that dismounting gives s.
I've had great effect with the whip against the miners, it breaks their poise constantly and keeps them from attacking you 👍
