    A pleasure to listen to this singer. He sings the music respectfully, intelligently and passionately with the lyric voice he has. He is a fine artist.

    There is nothing but beautiful, sustained sound from a warm, loving soul. Musical criticism doesn't apply to a voice like this-he's a gift from God, and that's our good fortune!

    Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, response to voices is highly personal and individual. I adore Calleja Here he demonstrates his perfectly even scale and smooth transitions. Many do not admire his vibrato. I find it thrilling. He is a major artist and I feel privileged to listen to his performing.

    His vocal timber often reminds me Gigli. His is a slightly heavier sound but the overall quality of his voice is very reminiscent of Gigli. He is one of the most underrated Tenors in the world. He should enjoy the same level of fame and popular recognition as do Kaufmann, Flores and Bazceala.....he is by and far better than all of them.

    Musím pokračovat- nádherný hlas J. Galleji mi vhání slzy do očí-- nedá se popsat tu nádheru, když zpívá květinovou arii z opery Carmen. Z.V.

    I am not an expert but his voice gives me goosebumps and brings tears into my eyes.
    What more do we want?
    When I read some critical opinions I ask myself what do they want more.
    It is a beauty in its most sublime form.

    es un irrespeto.

    He has lost weight and looks physically good in this clip. I have some recordings from Covent Garden from about 2011-12 with him as Adorno and Alfredo where he was near Pavarotti in stature. Let's hope for him that he keeps the present form. It cramps the style of a singer to be to fat and makes him look ridicolous in the hero roles. But of course being a opera star is a lonely straining life and the danger of overeating as a combined stress reaction and lake of excercise is great.

    Dear Mr. conductor, please hire proper singers to sing arias from La Gioconda, Cavalleria and Turandot... otherwise all of us who have a pair of ears will believe that marketing has taken over completely. This guy here has no business singing those arias.

    • @BearClawChrisLapp
      @BearClawChrisLapp 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My dear sir, I think you're being too hard on him. He has almost perfected his caprino; what more do you want? The claque led the charge, pleasant applauds followed and everyone went away happy.
      This is the future my friend. This type of simulacra is easily cloneable. We will see legions of them; furthermore, no dissent will be tolerated! I just read an article about the new GM of La Scala; he accused the loggionisti of scaring away his singers and he wouldn't tolerate it anymore, poor Alagna. Actually, I think he's paving the way for Calleja's Radames. A sign will be placed at the entrance to the Gallery: “No Booing Please” or maybe a red circle with a line through it over the word Boo.
      "FUORI REPERTORIO"...? ma il repertorio non esiste. Pavarotti was the beginning of that particular mess. I don't blame him; he was a good singer, they paid him and he moved on to singing with pop stars. I don't blame the managers; why hire a true Spinto when you can hire a star? If anyone I blame the public; for chewing on spam and pretending it’s filet mignon. But I don't even blame the public, I blame the times.
      The technological age killed this particular art. In the generation that follows engineered recordings will be played in the house and the performers will lip-sync their parts, to thunderous applause. Call me crazy…

    • @AfroPoli
      @AfroPoli 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BearClawChrisLapp A most reasonable reply. What the GM of La Scala said is typical. I remember an article by Henze from the 1960s where he praised the loggionisti as the true connoisseurs. Una Scala d'altri tempi, amico mio.
      But you have to blame the consumers after all. They create the taste of the time and they decide what can be sold. And I blame Pavarotti (and Karajan, Solti, Decca and all others involved) for having paved the way for the final Bocellisation of opera.

    • @Campuscoll
      @Campuscoll 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      AfroPoli I find your comments lacking in substance. There is no accounting for taste for beauty is indeed in the ear and eye of the listener. I heard Calleja at the Met and was floored by the size of his voice and in a role that had a very large orchestra. Much bigger than I thought from recordings and TH-cam. I find his technique serves him well as there is no one correct way to sing. Remember, this is a concert and one is allowed to stretch in a concert. Bjorling sang Wagner in concert only. I admire his intelligence in his interpretation and he has a sense of legato that few tenors have today. Me, I like this guy.

    • @AfroPoli
      @AfroPoli 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Campuscoll It's all right to like Calleja, but please don't compare Diet Coke to Barolo and then talk about taste.

    • @Campuscoll
      @Campuscoll 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AfroPoli I didn't compare Calleja to Bjorling as a singer. There is no comparison. Bjorling surpasses every tenor who ever sang his repertoire. I was talking about being allowed to do repertoire in a concert when one wouldn't perform complete roles onstage. If you haven't figured it out, marketing has changed the face of opera, and it is not better. Looks over substance, popularity over talent (Michael Bolton, Bocelli, Brightman, etc). Still, no accounting for taste. There will always be exceptions, but marketing controls most things today and that includes opera.

    • @robertjschroff6307
      @robertjschroff6307 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sorry Mr Mlakar. I'm singing, teaching and listening opera voices more than 30 years ago. This voice is NOT pushed and what you can hear there is NOT tremolo but a special and beautiful vibrato. I don't mind who are you I'm just listening this beautiful voice and his very well based technique. We could complain because his voice is usually more nasal than it would be necessary but the value of his voice is still brilliant. I'm relaxed because I believe in Calleja's long career. He is one of the BEST tenor in the World nowadays. This is my opinion.

    • @AfroPoli
      @AfroPoli 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are perfectly right. It will be over very soon. After all those years, the voice is still constricted, pushed, nasal and has a bleating caprino. Cielo e mar... my god. He sings with poor intonation from the very beginning with no core and, of course, completely FUORI REPERTORIO.
