Tosti was an accomplished Italian composer and music professor who moved to London in 1894 to teach at the Royal Academy of Music. He became a British citizen in 1906 and was knighted two years later. His style of composition is light and expressive and his melodies became very popular.

I have listened to quite a few versions of this song and Joseph Calleja is head & shoulders above them all. I don’t believe in God, but I do believe that only he could improve on this exquisite performance. Bravo Joseph Calleja.
