    Hey thanks for the tip on identifying detonation by looking at the upper connecting rod big-end bearing. I've got a 2017 GTR 230 that melted the #1 cylinder piston, and it burned through the cylinder liner, so I have a new block (and a bunch of other new parts) here at my shop. Sure enough, each of the three upper connecting rod bearings is more polished than the lower bearings. Yea, I was running 87 octane gas in accordance with my owner's manual. I won't be doing that anymore. 56 hours on the engine. and now a $3,500.00 repair bill ... and that's doing the rebuild myself!

    Great video keep up the good work I have 2015 GTX 155 which I have had from new 15 months ago number 2 piston failed destroying the block is had 136 hours on the motor always been well maintained regular serviced and never got a hard time I was running 91 fuel here in Australia which I think is equal to your 87 I have since replace the motor and the mechanic that cleaned my injectors told me never to run 91 always 98 = you're 93 since doing that my ski is running and performing better than it has ever done before and it only cost me about $5 more a tank to fill.

    When running pump gas, also make sure to run some kind of fuel stabilizer in your gas to prevent issues when the jetski is sitting not being used. I know rec fuel has a lower octane rating of 90. However, it contains no ethanol. Maybe using a octane booster with the rec fuel will be the best

      Go by the owners manual recommendations. These engineers fine tuned the engine for a specific octane.

    Great info. Sometimes you have to ignore the owners manual for the good of the engine ... I will never consider 87 octane...cost of fuel is not an issue if you can afford these machines. Recommendations of 87 in the owner's manual and for most online forums is an issue.. thanks again

    It literally takes me about 10 minutes to pull the pump out, this should be at minimum a once a year thing if you ride in saltwater you should probably do it more often and just spin it by hand because you can tell by the way it feels what the condition of the bearings are.

    I have a Kawasaki SX-R and I'm blown away that the ski manufactures do NOT have a pump fix. Under no circumstance should a pump failure destroy an engine.
    It took the aftermarket (Kawasaki Performance) to come up with a solution to prevent engine damage on the OEM pumps. It's a pretty simple shaft redesign that prevents catastrophic failure.

    I love your videos!! I have learned a lot from you thank you for that. I have 2 2022 seadoo’s GTI 170 SE. I have always ran 93 octane in them. They seadoo dealer said that I’m nuts for running that expensive fuel in them. I’m from the Midwest so fuel up here last year was very expensive. Why would the dealer tell me that he said they were designer run on 87 octane. I just figured its a high revving engine. Why wouldn’t you run the better fuel through it ?

    So about the pump failure, older Seadoo pumps used gear oil wet bath style lubrication, but newer pumps use grease only. Is one or the other a better? My experience is freshwater only and in 20 years never had a failure with gear oil pump. What is your recommended approach to maintenance of pump? Maintenance depend on wether its saltwater?

    • @calasworld
      @calasworld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes salt water is worse in salt water. They typically last between 3 to 5 years and you have to rebuild the whole pump.

    How did you know the engine block needed changing? I have a thrust bearing that was scratched up due to the jet thrust bearing pushing the driveshaft back into the engine on a 2017 seadoo GTR 230. It seems the only damage is to the thrust bearing, no discoloration of the piston or metal shards present, thoughts? Does it 100% need a crankshaft and a block?
