My brother and his family lived for 10 years in China. When my brother called for a taxi, taxi drivers couldn’t believe it was him who called as they expected a Chinese person. Same when my nephew and niece talked. They saw little blond and blue eyes kids talking perfect Chinese. Well it was their first language as my brother and sister in law wanted them to talk Chinese. The sad part though is that they can’t really write it. Good job for learning Chinese by yourself without living in the country.

'A' can be used to show excitement like maybe in english "that's sooo cool" kind of like streching out the ooo in so to be sooo. It's to show excitement or enthusiasm. However not everyone uses this expression in China, even online slang varies from region to region province to province in China. Also if you want to try a fun word to say something is cute use 哦 prounouced as O. Like for example Ni de Mao Hao ke ai o 你的猫好可爱哦！ It's expresses how cute the cute is. This 哦 is usually a Taiwanese expression but I and many other mainland chinese use it. Remember , mandarin is not only spoken in mainland China but also Mainland China of course, taiwan, Hong Kong (by mainland migrants and some hong kongers as a second language) malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and many other countries
