Warzone! My beloved... Absolutely one of my favourite games and settings. I'm spearheading a revival effort in my region, was one of the Crusader demo team for Prodos back in their tenure of the setting and wargame, very fun times. This time I'll be promoting all the editions, each one is a fantastically solid game that does a few things quite well, so there's plenty on offer to suit many a taste. My personal favourite is the 2nd edition from Target Games from 1998, a nice effort to refresh the ranges(Brotherhood were in DESPERATE need of this, especially), and a fine consolidation and streamlining of rules for a more platoon level focus, which is my personal favourite kind of conflict scale in 28/32mm(1e is a fine game, too, but it can lose itself in the details if your group likes tinkering with characters too much).
Those plastics are from the boardgame Siege of the Citadel, which was sort of like if Space Hulk and HeroQuest had a baby. Cool little game with buckets of minis, probably still available on Ebay for a prohibitive amount of money.
Warzone 1st Ed and Chronopia were fantastic. Yes, the miniatures were bit chunky but they were still very cool. The background of each game was awesome. Warzone was based around the Doom Trooper RPG and stories. Each game used a squad/unit alternating activations and d20 based combat resolution which was something new for my group coming from the world of GW. Great video and that was an awesome purchase of all those old painted miniatures.
The Target Games catalog is a wonderful reference. I still have my original copy. Back in 2002, an acquaintance of mine who worked for Excelsior Entertainment hooked me up with hundreds of Warzone and Chronopia miniatures for pennies on the dollar. The Warzone and Chronopia figures are fantastic for use in skirmish games such as Mordheim, Necromunda, Space Weirdos, Song of Blades & Heroes, and Frostgrave. 🤗
You can still get many of these minis newly cast from Prince August. They have lots of the original Warzone molds. Same Prince August that makes all the home casting stuff. Chronopia was amazing. The even had plans and prototypes for a epic scale version with gigantic land beasts. It's a real shame the company well belly up before any of it appeared.
Warzone and Chronopia books are amazing, with pretty rad 90s art and I think mostly 100% in color, also the big Chronopia demons are pretty cool, The Tormented half body demon was mind blowing
There was also a crowd funding campaign last year to bring back Chronopia. They are having issues with their manufacturing at the moment. I was all in with the Brotherhood.
Played warzone all the time. It came from the Mutant Chronicles rpg, developed by a Swedish games company. They did a bunch of side games like warzone and board games. Chonopia was based on a gaming world for the Swedish dnd basically. I played that tabletop rpg, but never the wargame.
I still enjoy Warzone 1st Edition to this day, thankfully I never sold any of my books or minis over the years. Yes, the minis are a bit chunky, but they have a certain charm about them and a lot of them fit really nicely into other sci-fi games.
1st edition warzone was the most cinematic skirmish game out there. You could still field 5 or more squads and finish a couple of hours. There are rules in back for streamlined play, campaigning and earning experience, and custom builds. The game also catered to hard core power gaming if you want that style, or you could build to the background of the game and have better balanced forces.
The ruleset was the same one used by the Aliens vs Predator Miniatures Game. The games are very cool and can be easily played with proxies. I have used my Imperial Assault minis many times. My gateway to this universe (well, solar system) was the Siege of the Citadel board game. I have a friend who still rolls his eyes at the battle cry "We are not Men, We Are BAUHAUS!!!"
Some of these are Heartbreaker minis and were passed to Target. Some of those plastics are from a Milton Bradley boxed board game based on the same IP. A lot of people(myself included) bought them on clearance to start a Dark Legion Army on the cheap. I played Warzone in the first two Incarnations with Heratbreaker and Target. I used to play Chronopia too. Wish I still had all of mine. The terrain was punch out cardstock. Not very heavy or durable.
I was a big fan of Warzone and Chronopia. They were cheaper and had better lore and game design than GW IMHO. I liked that 1st edition WZ was just one book with rules and army lists together. Same with Chronopia. It was a change from GW- smaller skirmish level, alternating activations, D20 (one roll only - roll to hit and then calculate damage IIRC) The later models were better sculpted especially the dwarves who had decent proportions compared to gw dwarves which were basically beards with feet lol. Still have my elves, dwarves, swamp goblins. Also my Dino riding Bauhaus are on my shelf next to the TV 😊
I really loved Chronopia and their lore was a nice twist from generic fantasy. The dwarven “clans” being based on animals like Vultures was a fresh direction as were the war machine and spell rules. The only thing that seemed a complaint point was the limited amount of poses. Some factions only had 1 or 2 poses for certain units…
Ha! I literally watched the '08 film last month, Thomas Jane is one the BEST things about the film! "Gimme the #%^&ing bomb!" LOL Very quotable. I recall how shocked I was watching the film and comparing it to what Mutant Chronicles was in my mind's eye.. with a little Sega game thrown in. Still worth a watch as a Gothic Diesel-Punk, only loosely inspired by MC. Your thumbnail contains I few models I worked on, have a thread on Dakka. (Lost and Damned - Latd) Until next time!
Didn't CMON get hold of some of the original Chronopia sculpts a few years back, for sale under the "GameZone" label? I had read the original molds were destroyed, but maybe they got the sculpts themselves or just molded from original castings?
Warzone fans, two questions: First: What's the name of the freaky dude in the center of the group shot (@ about 7s in) who looks like a creepy old man with long white hair and has the green gun that looks like a creature? I dig his funky vibe, he would be great for my Space Weirdos games. Second: I have a mystery mini that I got in an assortment of old figures at a con once, a guy who looks like Dollar Store Darth Vader riding a one-wheeled rocket bike with missiles on the sides. It's vexed me for years, but it shares a similar look to these miniatures. Is it a Warzone model? Thanks in advance for any answers.
That mini with the long hair is a Necromutant, a more elite Dark Legion Trooper. There are several different sculps which are all pretty good. They're still available through Prince August. The other mini you describe doesn't sound like any Warzone mini I have seen, vehicles were pretty rare in the game as it was mostly about the infantry.
Warzone! Best game ever... until it wasn't. Fond memories of the original editions... excellent figures. It had great support in the day...

The Warzone Bauhaus Blitzers and Hussars are wonderful models to use as police forces in any dystopian sci-fi skirmish game.
At some time in the past you could buy 80 nice Warzone plastic figures for $20usd. It was so exciting when that bag came in the mail.
Warzone figs are so cool
Yeah...Warzone and the Mutant Chronicles Universe ist so underradet.

Target games had some good figures back in the day. They fit well into yoi games of 40K or fantasy, and no one would notice.

I like how chunky they are. Metal miniatures like that survive everything, unlike 3d printed resin or the plastic
I have some of these minis and had no idea what they were! Such a helpful vid! Thank you
Glad I could help!
Chronopia was a fantasy tabletop. Looks and feeling was more Age of Conan than Middle Ages.

Love the old Warzone
Warzone eternal from ResNova will release early sommer this year

those were pretty cool .. thanks for sharing
There's a SNES game called Doom trooper that's also in the Mutant Chronicles universe.

I have that scatter. Great old resin. Still use it in Necromunda today.

yeap. Warzone Miniatures.

@@bilko991 Thanks! "Necromutant" is such a cool word.
The one-wheeled rocket bike might be a Void miniature.
Card stock yes
I didn't bring any snacks but I did just eat dinner. Does that count? :)
