    The way you explain is so eloquent and easy even for a beginner who just interested in making their own sample product. This helped me to clean up my already thought out product list and I def made a sheet on the List A ingredients list now I’m changing my list to phases and changing my liquid water percent to 100 rather than the total grams to Oz ratio I originally had because I can just adjust if I already start with 100%=100g =3.52 oz and that’s enough for sample product plus all the other percent additions of extracts and such

    Does determining PAO periods always include tests for stability for specific actives in a formula? So testing to what extend eg Retinol or Ascorbic Acid in a formula degrades during that PAO period, or are only bacterial/yeast growth, pH-changes, shifting test etc mandatory.

    Should the water phase always appear as phase A in o/w emulsion? Is there any rule in regarding the phases?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should phase your materials and write the method in a good flowing order - what makes sense? Then it helps avoid human error when the formula actually gets put together. If you write your phases such that the first listed phases don't get processed first, it can get confusing/human error can occur .

      If the preservative is heat resistant (and you are heating the formula) then you could add it at the start; a lot of times it gets added at the end so that the product has formed and then it gets added, and final pH adjustments are done to suit the preservative and actives.

    Everything in this video looks good, except the phases, which seem confusing! There are 5 phase C's, so which one would you do. It would be useful to know how to convert your ingredients in grams or millilitres to percentages.

      The phase C’s all get added together, you add them all at the phase C step. You will also benefit from our Beginners Cosmetic Science workshop series, which will help explain and show this, as well as the grams and % aspect. Please note we don’t use millilitres as cosmetic chemist or in proper formulas, as different materials weigh different to their volume, so it makes it unpredictable - we always use weight and %, please use this series to learn how to do this: personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/BeginnersCosmeticScienceWorkshops-469/ Happy formulating!

    What kind of water is most suitable for.making cosmetics? Distilled water or deionised water?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends slightly on the supplier but they are usually the same (you may need to double check specific to the brand of water you choose to use). Distilled water is usually boiled and then recondensed, to destroy micro-organisms, then deionized to remove all ions. Deionised water is one with ions removed, but they usually also boil it too. Please double check with your supplier but they are usually both treated in the same way, just called different names. You can also learn more about quality checks in our Certificate in Cosmetic Quality and Stability: personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/CertificateinCosmeticQualityandStability-1983/

      It will be 57% of the total volume of product you want to make. Want to make 100ml/gm? Then 57% is 57ml/gm for that formula :)

      57% refers to the content of that material in the formula (out of 100%), please refer to the screen or email us for formula details: info@personalcarescience.com.au So if you are making 100g, you would then measure 57g. If you are making 200g, you would still measure 57%, which is 114grams.
