- In this video, I share with you my newly arrived Wilesco D21 Steam Engine.
All in the name of having great fun. I never had one of these steam engines as a kid - boy did I miss out.
I was recently introduced to the company Wilesco by our great friend of Archieluxury - Sov Ron.
He implored me to take action and get myself a steam engine. I did it - I took action and here is my steam engine from Wilesco.
On display you will see:

A few things I have to say after seeing this video. 1 oil!!!! Please lubricate your engine with the fillercap that is in the steam line. Your engine will thank you later in the manner of long playtime and a lot of years. 2, fuel yust fill the tray completely and set it alight. Much better for your boiler and playtime. 3 Water, is your engine a secondhand? If not what water do you use? I can see there is lime on the glass. 4 do you know you have a boiler feed pump? The handle on the far right near the engine is to pump water in the boiler during operation. Only lubricate the 2 joints for better operation. Please be aware to do not to much at once, cold water reduces the steampressure.
Thanks so much for that advice - I’ve come along way since that very first run. Your advice above is absolutely spot on. The engine was purchase brand new from Wilesco.
Congratulation on your gorgeous machine ( I have one myself ) I have minor comments to the video besides the ones that other spectators have made, because it makes no sense lubricating the hydraulic governor the way you practice it. If you wanna obtain better running and less wear, you should lift the whole governor pin a few millimeters and place a drop of oil below the transmission wheel. That would help. Some owners have - or had (myself included) problems with water escaping from the feeding pump. Also here you should lubricate the piston pin very carefully, so that enough oil will run down to obtain a better fit of the piston inside the pump. And this may take several attempts before succes shows up. Best wishes for happy steaming. Greetings from Denmark. Klaus
Good evening Klaus, I greatly appreciate your advice and time you have taken to share your comments with me. A fantastic machine that brings so much joy. Jamie
i love wilesco steam engines, especially the d 21 and im glad this video only came out 2 months ago because i have watched all the others from years back
You are most welcome - it’s about two months ago that I bought the steam engine - so what you are seeing is one of the very first runs. Choo choo
Very cool. I got one for Christmas when I was a kid in the 70's. Loved it. Might have to buy me another one after watching this!
How wonderful - kids of yesteryears received these. Now it’s all about the iPhone, Nintendo and PlayStation. Good fun with a true underlying teaching of engineering
this is one of my favorite steam engines of wilesco... very nice painting
Thanks brother - the painting is factory default. This is exactly how it came.
What a fantastic steam engine!
😎😎 Great fun mate - you’d love it
It looks and sounds like you didn't put the steam oil in the steam oil port. The engine is making a high pitched squeaking noise because the cylinder is running dry. The engine will run longer if you fill it with water preheated.
Exactly right. This was my first run out and it was very much amateur hour
I have an older model gifted to me by my father, as a matter a-fact, I have two, one from Wilesco and one from an American company
Wonderful - does the Wilesco run ok??
Hi you need to oil the pistons which you'll see there is a screw you undo on the steam line and place some of that steam oil into this location. Nice engine and video!
Thanks Andrew - fortunately I did eventually manage to figure that out. Love it
In your oiling up, I am sure you missed the in-line lubricator to oil the cylinder. This is very important.
Another thing you could have done, is when filling the boiler is to use hot water. This saves heating time. It would have been better if you had used three blocks at a time instead of two.
Hey Kevin - all very helpful tips. Much appreciated. The cylinder is an issue I ran into some days later - i then came to figure that I should be lubricating this!!!
Happy days none the less.
@@GonzoJamie that’s why you need to reed the manual 😅. But was it damaged?
@@FamTech. all good - have had several runs since. All seems fine
Toot toot! 🚂💨
Toot tooot big meech 😊
Did they forget to put the wheels in the box?
That’s coming up next!
Why are you lubrication the top of the drive wheel of the regulator? You should lubricate the axle !,
Yep - this was pretty much one of my first runs. A lot has been learnt since then.
Oil !!!
And put hot distilatet water in
Thanks for the tips
The steam boiler/engine is fine but it needs a qualified operator. Jamie needs to watch a few more TH-cam chanels to get up to speed on his Wilesco. He can graduate from plebe to experienced operator with research and experience.
Haha I think I should release a new video?
