  • I received this awhile back & needed to do some work to it to get it in good running condition , these are quite the handful to operate & when running good are a lot of fun.

    You did a beautiful job on this old boy! Even got the right generator. A work of art indeed. Lots of hard work as these weren't made for easy disassembly. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with it.

    I'm 61 and still have my Wilesco D9 from my childhood. Still runs great and I still find it fascinating that you can run an electric light with some water and a heat source. Mine runs on the Esbit Fuel tabs.

      If you take care of an steam engine (which you obviously did) they will last a long time.

      @@bruceang82 Steam engines have much less components at lower speeds than combustion engines, probably why they last so long

    What a delightful video! I remember seeing this model in the FAO Schwarz toy catalog as a child (back in the sixties.) I thought, "If only..." Anyway, thanks for posting!

    That power meter makes it painfully clear the efficiency of this machine was not the main focus. Putting in like 500 Watts to light up a 0.5 Watts light bulb. Luckily it makes up for it in fun factor. 🤪

      I let go of the inefficiency factor long ago....its just fun.

    It's a shame that they don't make more of these

      They do, they are making these again.

      @@bruceang82 no they're not, they brought it back for a super limited run of 500 or so models. A poor decision on their part.

      @@harrimanfox8961 I guess I don't understand, you say they aren't making these any more , then the next sentence you say they are making 500 ?

    Very interesting video. I have a D32 but never go round to steaming it.
    Is the purpose of the water pump wheel to adjust the speed that it pumps water into the boiler? The pump is permanently operating so what happens if the wheel is closed off? Will the pump be damaged?

    • @bruceang82
      @bruceang82  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the pump is always working, either pumping water into the boiler, or recirculating water back to the water holding tank.

    I have a d32, with no original clutch pad. Do you know what kind of material they used for the clutch pad?

      seems to be a foam rubber of sorts.

    I'm guessing the transformer supplies current to a heating element

    • @bruceang82
      @bruceang82  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      correct , not necessarily needed ,but theses heaters are to powerful & need reduced for a proper steam run , also I like to see what wattage I am drawing so I can adjust in the future for a better experience.

    When is it necessary to open the tap on the water pump?

    • @bruceang82
      @bruceang82  ปีที่แล้ว

      you "close" the valve when you want more water in the boiler, open to let it circulate.
