See how to make a prototype button type controller in this video!

    Also:
Would like to point out a correction. The results of holding back + forward will depend on the controller and game. Some 3rd party boards such as PS360+ (the one used in the video) will set directions to neutral before sending that to the game itself. If a board does not have this setting (and sends the game both inputs), the game will decide what to do with simultaneous opposite cardinal directions (SOCD). For example, if Street fighter IV and V detect forward + back it will execute forward in game.

i'd be interested in watching your video on how to make a mock split box

Thanks for pointing out the potential for hand strain of a traditional hitbox layout. i'll be sure to build a split setup.

No problem. Always take care of your hands!
As a side note, if you travel for offline events a lot, it may be easier to make one big box with spread buttons. Two box set up is nice when you're at home lounging on a couch but is a bit cumbersome when at an event setting (you'll need to take a separate base board).
Share us a pic when you build one!

Very clear and comprehensive video! Add me to the list of people wanting a video detailing your unique multi box setup and about the jank prototype!

If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to leverage SOCD cleaning more in motion inputs. DPs for example are much more efficient on box if you simply hold the forward input the entire time, press down+back, then release the back input. That's leaving aside any game-specific shortcuts that may exist to further economize the input.

That's an interesting way of doing a 623 motion. For people who are comfortable with holding and releasing buttons that might be a great solution. If the controller itself sets direction to neutral when pressing forward + back (some boards such as PS360+ do this) you wouldn't need to worry about how the game would handle it. Thanks for the share!

Hello, love your videos! Tell me, where did you get those palm rest and how did you install them?

Both are generic wrist rests used for mice. You can find them at any office supply store. They aren't attached to the controller and simply set on top (easier to carry around that way). You can also use things like folded towels or bean/rice bags if you want specific height/width.

I would love to learn how to make a split Hitbox. Love the wrist rests too.

We have a follow up video showing how to make a prototype with an existing stick. That could be a good place to start in understanding how controllers work. and building your own custom one.

Very interesting video. I have interest in hitbox but I'd like to get comfortable using a aracade stick before I go out and get one. I need to break out of the habit of mashing before I pick up something that's entirely buttons.
Also could you source the music you used in the video.

Good luck on whatever you use! In the end, it's all preference.
Music and tools used in the video are listed after the title screen (0:06).

Do you have a video on that custom split ergo controller?

What are you exactly looking for? The controller is used in a few videos but this one show cases it the most.

@@SeaLeafDojo I was just hoping for a more in depth overview on its design, wiring, construction and bindings. Also from the thumbnail in this vid, it looks like you can swap out the left hand between Hitbox style and a traditional arcade stick setup. I’d love to know how that works.

@@RainMakeR_Workshop The closest video we have is one showing how to build a prototype controller based on an existing one.
