- Steve Yzerman spoke to the media before heading to the draft in Las Vegas, and for some reason it got everyone in a fervor online. We got 'updates' on contract discussions with Raymond, Kane and Seider. We also learned Detroit's probable plans for pick 15 and the goalie room. But none of it was worth burning the house down over. #LGRW

I'm kind of disappointed nobody asked Stevie Y more about Justin Holl situation on the presser. Like, for example, him saying Klim Kostin post trade deadline was a must basically to move on with that trade to the sharks, and his reasoning was basically "if the coach doesn't believe he is gonna be more then a fill in on a 4th line/frequent healthy scratch in the role on our team, he couldnt justify keeping him at 2 mil a year." ---> So having Holl at 3,4 on a simular role (al bait on defence) should be simular solution right?
I liked Kostin better and he was also cheaper. I'm sure NHL GM see the same, so Holl's value in a trade is probably not as much as Kostins.
The 2 situations are slightly different and so the solutions will be slightly different.

Probably it’s because holl gets bought out. A lot of people think he gets bought out. And the buyout cost isn’t high. But mainly to open that roster spot up. If yzerman can move him without giving up a prospect more power to him. But I highly doubt that’s possible.
@@jackconrad2667it adds years on dead cap, like we STILL have with Abdelkader for example... You save pretty much the same with simply waiving him to play in GR (get 1,15 cap relief and around 2 mil left on dead cap for just this and next season, instead of 4 years with a buyout👎)

Seiders point totals are not that bad, it took Hedman 4 seasons to get over 40 points
Wings made a couple of moves.
They traded Walman to San Jose for future considerations. Also swapped a couple prospects with Nashville.
Trading Walman looks like a cap clearing move.
Yzerman took a pay cut to get Brett Hull on the team. He's looking for the same dedication from the current players, right or wrong. If a player is holding out for a big payday for years before proving they have years of consistency, like Raymond and Seider, there's a good chance one of both could be gone. If they want money more than success then goodbye.
That’s just not true. He was getting paid close to 8mil in 2001 and he was past his prime by that time. Still a captain and leader. He took a 500k discount in 2002. Woah big deal. Come on man. Adjusted for inflation that’s close to 14mil a year in 2001.
We are debating if these guys should get 8mill for 8. And most likely will end up with less.
Yzerman took less in 06 with about a mil
@@davidkruse4030he is being cheap and he is going to be wasting his time when they hold out into the season and I would wait to play until I was given my worth if he wants to sign a long term contract. He thinks 500k is taking less well give them 7.5 for 5 years and watch them walk because he wants to sign older players who are not what they were in their prime.
Why didn’t Larkin take a pay cut? He is Supposed to be the leader of the team and Debrincat? Copp Compher I can go on but it’s not the same as the new NHL and Raymond has been putting up better Points than Larkin has in his first 3 seasons. So all that matters even if he had a rough sophomore slump and Larkin has never put up 11 goals in preseason to make the team.

I think you guys missed the most significant thing that was talked about. He mentioned we have 9 people that will be in his ideal age range in a "couple" of years (I read in 2-3) for the contention window. Pelika was one of them, meaning he's going to be up during that timeframe. No suprise Jonatan wasn't part of it. So that means he's looking for a LHD and two high level wingers that will that are all young, and then basically having veteran fillers around them. I doubt he thinks he can fill those three roles from people in this draft or the next. That comment seemed really big to me, because it points to trades for young top line guys and 2-3 years of not really making hard roster pushes to speed up the timeline.
Also means no buyouts this year or next, since those contracts will mostly burn off before the contention window starts.
kane should go to a "playoff" team. he's old. would rather see a Griffin graduate. imo
He's a point per game player... a rookie won't come anywhere near that kind of output.
@@andrewborody no he won't but it would be better for the long run to get a guy like Bergerren playing on PP in detroit instead of GR. Kane wasn't planned and doesn't fit the window. time to get serious with the brick and mortar of this team. second or third oldest last year. not gonna cut the mustard.

What Kane or I just simply don’t care about the team right now.
It feels like next year will be another wasted year. Unless they get really aggressive by getting rid of bad contracts and getting Raymond and Seider at really good numbers on bridge deals they won't have the cap space to drastically improve the team. Need a couple buyouts and a couple big trades and big free agent signings. But it sounds like Yzerman isn't going to do any of that.
I think ‘wasted year’ is a little too harsh. Team has made positive progress year after year and the notable prospects are maturing nicely. If you expect Yzerman to wave a magic wand and turn the team into the Bruins then I think the failure is on your side

Raymond and seider will resign for around 8 and 8.
The cap is going up and the team is to far away from a cup run to justify a pay cut. I think they will both have bridge deals .
@@xcvbxcvb2179 I think they don’t bridge. They both are expected to get 8 yrs. The only debate really will be is it 7.5aav or 8.5aav.
