    I’ve been there, man. It’s a long, long road back. Good luck.
    Needless to say be super careful about how you use your knees until it gets fixed. I put a terrible buckle handle tear in my meniscus just kneeling down between when I got the MRI and when I got the ACL repair.
    I would absolutely love to see match review videos/breakdowns. I have appreciated your breakdowns so much because most other videos only show the “freaks” of wrestling - as you said in your last video. It’s amazing that Burrows does what he does, but I can’t do it.
    Your videos have been a tremendous help to my wrestling in BJJ. I feel like I’m finally not an embarrassment to my belt on my feet, largely because of some of your videos on fundamentals.
    Good luck on your recovery.

      LOL!! That’s not what they are, LOL!! They are “this is what Jiu Jitsu guys (who are new to wrestling) do and how that compares with classic wrestling technique.” LOL! Believe me that I want nothing more than to see extremely high level wrestling scrambles that go back and forth between wrestling and Jiu Jitsu techniques with subs, positional control, etc. I can’t wait for the day when the vast majority of high level Jiu Jitsu guys could stand toe to toe with high level wrestlers under wrestling rule sets. It will definitely make take the sport to a new level. I have my thoughts on why wrestling in Jiu Jitsu has progressed so slowly and planned on making a video on that soon

    Its ALWAYS fucking judo and a leg getting stuck. Many cultures use sand instead of a mat, i wonder if having a surface that gives before your tendons would decrease injury? Good luck on your surgery! I appreciate these videos, they actually talk about the key details that make this shit work

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  ปีที่แล้ว

      Stupid carpeted gymnastics floor. Like velcro. Omg, I would think sand would be terrible, because ACL injuries happen most often from pivot shift. Exactly how I did it. All these years man and the one time I go a little hard on that velcro like surface I blow out my knee

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang man! I dislocated both elbows-Right one in college wrestling and the left one in Judo right out of college wrestling. I didn’t get surgery for either, but in both cases I broke bone off the radial and ulnar heads. The tricep insertion on my right arm never healed right. The ulnar nerve on my left one has been bothering me for 22 years. Elbow injuries are terrible. The joint isn’t just a hinge like the knee, but you have rotation. I wish the doctors had considered doing more, but I was young and I am constantly gaslit by them. Even when they saw my knee they were like “eeehh swelling is minimal so you didn’t do anything.” I insisted on an MRI and then the evidence that it’s jacked up was overwhelming. Then they are so surprised. Maybe because I am an athlete who knows when something is wrong should be enough for you to take it seriously

    Glad it's only minor for the other ligaments and that you're able to walk, man. Knee injuries are the worst.
    You should talk about your philosophy on drilling. I know people have different opinions on what is most effective. For example, when training some basic judo with Alec, he prefers to do dynamic drills (involving movement forward/back/side-to-side) rather than "static" where you practice the entry and throw without movement.

    Sorry to hear that you lost your ACL, bro. But I'm very glad to see that you already made the choice to focus more on your career as a teacher rather than that of a grappler. That'll make the disappointment a little more bearable?
    As for what type of content to focus on... I'd love more grappling match breakdowns. And I'm sure I'll have lots of stand-up questions once your course is released. I just need more technique-focused mat time before I have anything worthwhile to ask lol.

    Hi I’m 22 and had ACLR about 10 months ago and honestly at your age I would recommend waiting before you get surgery. If I tore another ACL I don’t know if I would get another repair. There are new studies coming out showing it’s possible for the ligament to regrow(although they are highly debated). I tore mine in jiu jitsu also. If I would do it again I would just rehab and do strength training for 6 months plus and get another MRI. Surgeons will tell you about shifting and bone bruising but that already happened from the rupture. Idk just my thoughts maybe do some more research about it, and if you do decide to get surgery I would heavily consider against BPTB graft because of the pain when kneeling. I got the upper quad tendon graft and I’m pretty happy with it although my quad is still very weak relatively

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your response. Yeah it is a lot to consider. At my age, I might be better off getting it done, because in 20 years, I won’t have the same strength from compensatory abilities to stabilize it. I actually read that study. As a scientist, it is often the case that a scientist will go out of their way to poke a hole in the dogma just to show something isn’t 100%. But I am not willing to wait around to see if I am the rare person who can wolverine that thing back together, lol

    Sucks to hear man - truly. I've only heard about the hospital bills you get in the US and I hope they doesn't stack up and you can get the treatment you need with no compromise. If not, maybe you can sell your body, or Doms (that's what friends do).
    Regarding content for your youtube channel, I have an idea. Me and a buddy got into a discussion on how to train to get better. I just had a class where the trainer had us work from a very specific position the entire class. First he showed what both people could do from there and some concepts to have in mind, like knee to elbow connection or don't give underhook, and then we would do light sparring from the position and restart as soon as we changed position somehow. Then he would correct mistakes he saw people do, and then more sparring. For one hour we did this and I liked it alot because you get to grind it for one hour. I told my friend about it and he said he hated it, that live rounds was the best because you can sharpen your best techniques or game, and that's how you get better. Those live rounds can be used to get better at avoiding those positions you don't know or are bad at. I would like to hear your perspective on it - live sparring or positional sparring.
    Maybe viewers can send it their matches and you can do analyses? Specifically the standup maybe, since that's what you're specialised in

      If you are talking about from the standing position, then start with my stance video. I want my guys to have a rock solid stance. So many people think they have a good stance and their stance absolutely sucks. If you have a good stance, then he is going to exert a ton of energy trying to take you down. He will also open himself up too and make it easy for you to score. It cannot be overstated-stance is everything. Most people’s stances suck. Watch Tom and Terry Brands, Brent Metcalf, Nick Lee. These guys have awesome stances. They get everyone out of position and few can get them out of position

I actually started analyzing my own footage as a kid, so that I could compare what happened in reality but from the perspective of being on the mat in competition vs the unbiased objective reality of seeing it on camera. The issue is copyright infringement. I have already been hit twice for it. My NCAA videos were hit for copyright infringement-despite being educational. The BJJ people don’t seem to hit me for infringement though. I was surprised I was able to do that Gordon Ryan one without issue. But they stopped showing wrestling after that for some reason, LOL

      Honestly within the past year my knee feels better than ever because I started doing ATP exercises mixed with my lifting and plyos. ATP is kneesovertoes guy’s program.
