Hi, good to see that Cognito stem conversion too. I am doing the same bike but using Triumph ST1050 front end. I will need a special stem custom made for sure. I'm love to see a simple shot or vid of the bike off the jack-stand and sitting naturally on the ground with your new front end installed. Taking the pastiche chopper look away is essential. Those engines are F.A.B. Thanx for vids
Hi, It’s now too low for the side stand. I did think about bending the bracket, but I managed to find another side stand from a breaker and plan to cut out an inch and re-weld to have it lean enough. My apologies that it’s slow going. Once summer comes around between work and everything else the time just goes. (Ok, and a bit of riding too!) I’ll see what I can do. Good luck with the conversion. It should be sweet with the ST1050 front end. I expect that will be better sprung for the extra weight. I expect I may need some firmer springs for the R6 fork but we shall see. Cheers,
I noticed you put a couple of washers under the bottom bearing. I wish I saw this before I pressed mine on. I'll most likely ruin it taking the bearing off again. RD400 with GSXR600 forks.
I can only apologise. I hope it works out ok. Sounds like a great project! RD400 crossed with a Gixxer 😁. Unfortunately I’m not making much progress on mine. Too many other things to do. I’ll get to it one day.
That is an excellent question.... it's a time thing. I still have the bike and next up is the electrics. What I haven't had lately (ok, for a few years...) is the time to focus on that to sort it out. My current day job finishes at the end of July next year. I'm thinking of doing 2-3 months of just TH-cam as my 9-5 so that I can get some evenings and weekends back. If I can, then I'll pick it up then.
Not sure. Either didn’t think of it at the time (most likely!) or something was in the way. Will bear that in mind for next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you so much! was looking for something exactly like this! OH! forgot to ask. What is that tool called you used to set the bearings in the frame? I can't find it with my search of "Giant Corkscrew Thing"
Hi, just saw your question. Apologies. The Giant Corkscrew Thing is a ‘headset press’ or a bearing or cup press. It’s perfect if you have a stripped frame with no tank, but it does snag on the frame a bit, so I’d suggest trying a threaded rod first. Two thick steel washers larger than the headset and a couple of nylon washers the same size to protect the bearings. The benefit of that is that if you don’t have the tank clearance, you can always use a deep socket or extension. Good luck!
Thats sounds great! I should have been more clear in my inquiry...are you planning on going with the same model R6 rear wheel and converting to the monoshock? I know its quite a bit of fabrication, but I've seen the structural aspect of this conversion on the post 84 models. Looking forward to the updates when budget allows! Thanks again.
Aha, apologies. Not at this time. I had a brief look at doing a bigger conversion but decided to start with a twinshock and see how I get on. Is it possible to convert an R6 rear wheel to a shaft drive? I’d be interested to know how, but I suspect that’ll be V2! I do have a spoked rear wheel, so was thinking about replacing the front with a spoked wheel too. That said, I’m doing this on a budget and £1000 for a wheel and new discs isn’t on the list yet.
Andre! I appreciate the breakdown on the R6 front conversion. Planning a similar xv build now that my fzr600 scrambler is finishing up...Are you planning the same R6 rear set for the back? Thanks for details on the stem conversion...makes the swap so clean. Thanks again. Please keep the updates coming on the xv. The background build music is a solid!
Hi, you’re welcome. I have some rear sets, but not from an R6. I was planning on fixing them to the pillion brackets, at least initially, to see how that fitted with the subframe and tank. If too high, I’ll look to get some others or for a different mounting point. Next up is probably cutting and re-welding the side stand so I can leave it safely in the garage, but now the weather’s getting nicer it’s finding the time. It will be along shortly!
i poped them out of the R1 and R6 in a garage them pressed them out but shitted them selves it was so had to get them out, all they kept saying every pump are you sure? yeah its fine are sure again i was wetting myself they was shitting them and im rolly on the floor going keep pumping lol it was she OMG

@@PeakMotorcycles morning mate did you need the firmer springs in the end? Planning to do similar to my XV750…

Nice videos. When's the next video on this build?

HI, cannot wait to see some update about this project, will u turn it to something similar like Zeus Custom XV1100? Thanks.
Thanks Ron,
I do need to get on with it, but there’s been other things I’ve had to focus on. It is still in the garage, so I’ll get to it eventually.
hello, I wanted to ask, I'm doing a project based on virago xv750. Can I do it on my xv750 with such components and p6 as you show in the video?
Hi, I haven’t tried, but you could try contacting Cognito Moto to see if they do a conversion stem for the 750 and your forks?
@@PeakMotorcycles Thanks for the reply, I'll contact them about this issue.
Why didn’t you just undo the triple clamp and slide it up the forks ?
Not sure. Either didn’t think of it at the time (most likely!) or something was in the way. Will bear that in mind for next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

🤣. Yup. There’s a lot of wincing as the pressure increases. Glad it worked out.
@@PeakMotorcycles yeah that was last year still not fitted to the R6 though haha
