Buy a Legion Go or ROG Ally X plus an eGPU and you will have a 2-in-1 system. A handheld on the go and a docked system that is at the very least as powerful as a PS5/Xbox Series X, depending on thr eGPU you use.
I’ve heard lots of good things about gog. Haven’t checked it out yet. We don’t really ever own games anymore. Even physical copies for consoles now days are just keys. I’ve got a physical CD copy of return of the king for PC. Love that I’ll always have that game.😂
@AndrewTaylorYT yes unfortunately you have to hunt for physical games that are all actually on the disc. Like jedi survivor on SX and ps5 isnt a complete disc but then you got the last gen xbox one and ps4 ports that has the whole game on disc. It's absurd.
Unfortunately physical doesn’t last forever. Look up disc rot. If you start to see pin holes in your disc if you put it up to light or if the back of your disc looks like it has a water stain the disc is damaged and done. Also if the cover art to the disc is starting to pill off that’s another sign to. Doesn’t matter if how you take care of disc it just happens over time.
Hey I found your channel in September 2024 and you convinced me to buy a SD OLED and I wish I bought one sooner. Millennial dad of 3 kids and i use my SD when I travel to NY for work(6-8 times a year cross country flight) and 3x a week for my 2hr roundtrip train ride for my commute. Games on Steam are always super cheap, I bought 50 games in the last 3 mo. It's so convenient and chill that my PS5 hasn't been touched in 3 months. Love the content and keep up the great work!
Happy for you! The steam deck is literally perfect for that. I bought my deck back in June I think and I’ve been in hook line and sinker since. Love the thing. Thank you so so so much for watching the channel and the content. I do a lot of different stuff that’s not always handheld related. Hope you still enjoy and I can make you guys proud! Thank you so much.😊
@AndrewTaylorYT oh yeah came for the steam video and stayed for all your content, watched almost all the videos on your channel. Production quality is SUPER HIGH and very smooth editing and storytelling, looking forward to the next, cheers!
Thanks so much😊 That means a lot! It can be really scary trying to continue to adapt and be creative when something specific gets so popular. Have to balance exploration and providing what you guys are seeking. Glad you enjoy my stuff. Means more than you could imagine. Thank you so so much.❤️
Thank you! That means a lot. I know a lot of people discovered me for my steam deck and handheld videos. I wanna do more content around handhelds and my experience with them. Out of curiosity, as a viewer who discovered me because of the handheld content. Has more recent content and random types of videos been a turn off? I’ve been kinda insecure about doing random videos on random stuff I wanna make videos on because I know a lot of viewers want handheld stuff. What are your thoughts? Thank you again so so much for watching my videos.😊
My dream console is an xbox 360 with 4090 graphics. Keep the xbox 360 or even og xbox UI. But allow steam on it. Allow kinect and make vr do all that but also have it be like the switch. I know it wont work but yeah
Yeah. The rate of advancements with APUs has been astonishing. Especially considering that NVidia is now looking to focus on it again. So yeah, I can easily see a docked 3rd or even possibly 2nd gen steam deck able to do 4k 60 on modern games. So being able to take it in the go and being able to dock it will just be end game for all other gaming. Everyone will start making a handheld though so it’s not like it’s going to be one sided. The future looks good!
I’m excited for that future where all home “consoles” are potable like this. I’m really really hoping Microsoft makes an “Xbox” slice of windows you can boot into by default sort of like Steam OS. That would blow the scene wide open.
Found some of your steam deck vids earlier this year and I really enjoy your content. I hope you continue to grow the channel brother! It’s good content and I think people will like the channel once they discover it, keep it up.
Thank you so so much. That means the world. I hope you’ve enjoyed the non handheld content also! I love making videos about different kinds of stuff and have been really insecure it would be disappointing for people who subbed for handheld stuff. Thank you so so so much for watching my channel. It means the world.😊
I only game on Handheld(retro emulation and deck) and PC gaming. Exclusivity, pay to play online and restrictive environment of consoles pushed me to abandon them
pc gaming hasnt got more accessable, consoles have just became more expensive, the average pc price has stayed the same (some parts have got cheaper whilst others more expensive making the difference even)
Depends how far back you look. If you're saying 2014-2024 then PC has stayed relatively the same aside from the Steam Deck style prebuilt handhelds. But PS2 era and previous years PC gaming was painful and for dedicated nerds only.
I agree, I think that to most people the cost of entry to PC gaming was too high (due to graphics cards prices). But with the variety and affordability of these PC handhelds (Steam Deck, ROG ALLY, etc), help to ease the majority of people who wanted to get into PC gaming but didn't know where to start. I just like the hybrid aspect of my Steam Deck.
I just got a Lenovo Legion Go on sale, and I am in. awe. The Switch was my dream concept of a console since I first played the Gameboy. Going from that to a DS/PSP, a 3DS/Vita, a Switch, and now Handheld PC is quite the journey. Neing able to dock these modern handhelds and run some of the latest games makes consoles feel limited.
There is something about the versatility of handheld gaming that makes it more attractive than your standard console. In the same sense of laptops versus desktops, and that’s the overall continuity of your media content, but on the go. In my case, being able to game on my Steam Deck OLED on a flight, then hook it up to my hotel TV via dock/HDMI, and clocking in at less than 3 pounds for everything, there is a lot to be said for that level of portability without compromising too much in terms of what you can play. Yes, you will get better performance out of a full-on console, desktop, or even gaming ultrabook/laptop. But at the end of the day, you get a decent gaming experience and versatility that the others can’t offer. Nobody wants to lug around a 12 pound PS5 or Xbox that takes up their entire carryon on a flight, and only be able to play it when connected to a TV. Even at home, if you have it setup in a living room, but want to lay in bed, then you’d have to drag a console from one room to the other. Versus a handheld, you just pickup from a dock and take it where you are. Ease of use is king in this space.
I freaking love my steam deck. I never would've even considered pc gaming if it weren't for the steam deck. I love playing tales of arise and other jrpgs on it as well as indie games, metroidvanias, action adventure games and platformers. Some fps games like the metro series too.
Will the switch 2 have 2 docks? Dock 1, cones with the switch 2. Works exactly like the Switch. Dock 2... is a 4k console that the switch 2 becomes the controller, or there's a powerful gpu in the dock.
I agree entirely! Cool and thought provoking vid dude! I own X Box Series X , PS5 , OMEN Laptop RTX2080ti and SD OLED 1tb. I have found so much excitement and joy from the SD ..its re envigorated the gaming experience..for all the reasons you have mentioned! A further point is , every X Box Ive ever owned has broken! The latest one just yesterday! Product support is poor and not easily accessible/ silly expensive! ..When my Laptop failed I easily identified it was a RAM issue and fixed it myself while doubling capacity! Runs games pretty good still! And further upgradeable for reasonable cost! Solves the broken X Box hardware issue! Still use PS5 for exclusives such as Astrobot! No way around that yet! Draw the line at buying a Switch just for Zelda and Mario! But heres the thing!.. Cloud is the future! Just need the Internet speeds to be widely accesible! I have 2Gbps at the missus house..but other place is terrible speeds ..and expensive! Thanks Virgin Media! Lol... but ultimately we wont need expensive hardware to run games..just use remote servers and play anywhere...including just using your phone to hook up to a big TV and play AAA Games at 60fps+ with ray tracing etc! Nb..In fairness to X Box I transport it in the car a lot..in a secure purpose made case..but guess its just not built strong enough! Still poor tho!
They already have bro those consoles are already dead and a ps6 will cost around 900$ besides if they dont get with the portable game like steam did with the deck they will continue to lose money 🤑💰 the launches of consoles are 1000 times less fun as the sega genisis the super Nintendo the n64 the PlayStation dreamcast those were the peak of console launches these days you dont stand in line foe games or launches you just order it on amazon and see it in a few days 😂😆
Since buying my Steamdeck and Legion Go I rarely touch my PS5 and XBOX series. When I do, I’m streaming them to my Deck. Heck, my gaming PC is almost equally not receiving attention. I’m excited to see the next gen of Handheld PC gaming tech from Intel and AMD. The future is APU :)
I will admit, my Steam Deck has slowly, but surely overtaken my gaming setup. Meanwhile, while I hesitate to call this an absolute certainty, as my relationship with consoles deteriorates, I expect the PS5 to be my last non-Nintendo console, if not my last console overall.
I’m with you. I’ve got a ps5 pro because I wanted to give it a go. I can’t see myself ever getting a non Nintendo console again outside of purely grabbing them to do a TH-cam video on. I’d probably keep a new psp or Xboy but any others would probably get returned or sold. They’re just starting to get out dated.
- Steam Machines will kill consoles - Mobile gaming will kill consoles - Steamdeck will kill consoles We've been here before. PlayStation and Nintendo will probably outlive everyone reading this. That being said; I love PC handhelds and can't wait for PlayStation's handheld.
I don’t think the brands will die. I do think at some point though that the PlayStation itself will become a handheld. Nintendo already is a handheld lol.
Picked up a rog ally x and never looked back. Installed a 512gb batocera with all the emulators including up to switch, ps3 wiiu and lower. Again never look back. That’s something a console never gives unless I keep it at a lower firmware because an exploit existed. Then the car and mouse game. I’m done. At some point ps4 emulation will be possible .. nothing much to play. They killed our boi in the last of us 2 but it will be nice. And yes I believe Sony and Microsoft already said they are looking at a ps5, Xbox one handheld.
The switch has outsold all the PC handhelds combined...but its been out alot longer. I agree about handhelds taking over though but right now at these high prices its still not there yet....for example the Ally X after tax here in Canada is $1242....theres no way in hell id pay that to get 40-50fps average on low/medium settings with a GPU comparable to a 1650 at best, its just not value for money. You can buy a laptop with a 4060 in it around that price...that will completely destroy any handheld thats out right now running 140+ all day on high/ultra settings....and although not handheld will still be portable enough. Once they figure out how to get handhelds running a GPU like the 4050/4060 where you can run these high/ultra settings it'll be game over....and worth the value then....i have a laptop with a 4050 and it crushes anything i throw at it...1080p on high/ultra with ease....any AAA title currently i own a bunch of em and tested them all.
It’ll happen eventually. Once you can get a handheld at 600 bucks that could do 4k 30 and 1080 120 I think you’ll begin to see a major shift. Tech isn’t to far off of that. By the end of the ps6/xbox (720?) generation I think handhelds will have come into major form. Nintendo will ALWAYS outsells the alternatives as it’s Nintendo. Handheld PCs are still a pretty niche thing right now. Once Microsoft goes about building an Xbox slice for windows boot up or a major company with serious marketing power releases something publicly available itll probably stay kinda niche. We are all beta testing the future hardware and companies are still figuring stuff out. The future is bright though.
The Steamdeck was outsold by the Wii U. I know better then to believe the hype. The random emutrooning, Valve glazing as well as the damning physiognomy tells me all I need to know. ✌️
You make a lot of good points, but no offense but whenever you PC guys talk about consoles, it’s like you still think it’s 2010 or somthing. I was primarily an Xbox player but now own a steam deck. Pc players for some reason think steam is the only platform with sales. Maybe this was the case over a decade ago. But today I can assure you that both steam and Xbox often run the EXACT same sales. Steam sales do not seem unique whatsoever. Maybe at one point they were. But steam games are not any cheaper than games purchased on the Xbox market place. Publishers will put the same sales on both platforms. And then your second point about handhelds being cheaper is off. The cheapest console is the Xbox series S which is $300. The cheapest steamdeck is $400 and its is WEAKER than the Xbox series S. More expensive and less power. Idk if it’s weaker due to hardware or just because the system is not optimized for, but the result is the same. The steam deck is weaker than the Xbox series S. So for casuals, picking up a handheld is not inherently their first instinct. Graphics still matter to casuals and they still want to be able to play the latest games. And so many will still go toward the modern console. Maybe in the future this will change. But as it stands, it’s not the case that handheld is cheaper and more casual oriented. In fact the steam deck to me is for extremist who don’t exclusively play the most modern games as casuals often do. Like I play resident evil 5, left 4 dead 2 and the Witcher 3 on my stream deck. And it runs those games great. Casuals however want to play the newest call of duty and Indiana jones games which don’t run on the steam deck well or at all.
Starting with your second point. Yea that’s kind of the point I made in the video? Handhelds are not more powerful or better value than consoles yet. The generational increases they are making per price value is much much better than consoles currently meaning that in the near future the value of a handheld PC will intersect and pass a console more than likely. The sale thing also just isn’t true. Let’s take the lingering subscription fees you’re paying out of the equation and just compare tit for tat. Not only do you have a much larger game library on Steam that’s going on sale but you have an average of better deals. There are games going on sale on Steam you don’t even have access to on a ps5 for instance. You also get game keys cheaper from third party sites like G2A. All this while not needing redundant subscriptions for online access. Having a large variety of markets just means you’ll always be able to find a better deal. Thank you for watching🙂
@ I’ll cede every point other than the sales. For the games that are both on Xbox and steam, the games get the exact same sales I promise. And at similar frequencies. The Xbox store is also a pc store front for pc games and so it does compete with steam and every other online store. So maybe you’re right with Nintendo and PlayStation, maybe they don’t go on sale as much idk. I can only speak for Xbox. But anyone who uses Xbox/ the Microsoft store can attest to the deals being similar. Anyway outside of that I accept my L and may your channel prosper
Well my Rog ally X I can play mostly everything MMO CoD Elden Ring Racing game and if I want I can just dock it to the big screen n use a controller….Microsoft alrdy announced their handheld 😂😂😂 then Sony follow suit and announce their own handheld too
Rog ally, steam deck and all pc handheld is not even convenient. Those are bulky, weak battery, and very contradicting to what the meaning of convenience.
The Rog Ally X and Steam Deck OLED have more than enough battery. I don't see why someone should be playing more than 5 hours straight anyways. That is excellent battery life given the power behind these machines.
Soooooo Switch 2 will come out and the PC handhelds will kind of borrow the everything again if it’s as successful as the Switch? Sony and Microsoft should follow suit but I think that the PS move and Kinect makes them worry about copying Nintendo’s hardware, so they’ve begun to move more to homages of Nintendo software. Either way, follow the leader. 🦆
Idk if it’s as much copying Nintendo now as just developing a new kind of product. The switch was cool yea but it boiled down to a smartphone with controllers. Wasn’t really pushing anything technologically. I’d say the steam deck, Ally X, legion go, are all systems you’ll see people follow after. I expect the switch 2 to just be more of the same with better hardware. Advancements in software stuff like proton in Steam OS is a bigger deal when it comes to handhelds. Being able to do a console OS ontop of a PC OS is huge.
With XBOX all but admitting to ending their physical console lineup after this generation, PlayStation rumours about a handheld like Vita that can also play PS5 games. Steam Deck/3rd party handhelds and Switch rapidly rising in popularity and discourse, the next 10 years for gaming is shaping up to be quite interesting, especially with VR being invested into heavily. (although it has dropped to the background). AND.... AI will ignite all this into a big flame that is going to "cook", certainly.. Tinfoil hats aside, the next year and subsequent years into the PS6 are going to be prime years for IX generation gaming, many great titles(ofc GTA VI) releasing, and Sony cooking with their exclusives, Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, more to come from them. Somehow, XBOX is pumping out good exclusives(bar PC), like Indiana Jones and Stalker 2.. great big IP exclusive sequels upcoming from them too. and handheld gaming undergoing a revolution heralded by Switch 2 and Steam Deck.. Gaming has re-entered a watered down golden age at the very least, it's better than the past 6 years, seeing the gaming industry slowly fall on its head😅😅
@@AndrewTaylorYT I'm still not sure if XBOX is stopping their physical console production, but if the next Halo and Forza go to PlayStation, then it's probably over. We're definitely going to see a remote-ish similar landscape in some areas in 2028, but A LOT is gonna change from IX-X generation as opposed to VIII-IX. 😶🤔
If they keep making them. Perks of handheld PCs though are you can use any controller. I played through Elden Ring with a switch pro controller docked to my tv😂 The steam deck is worth a try. Legion go and Ally X hurt my hands too. The steam deck ergonomics are top tier.
Truth. If I can get two in one, I will always choose that over one or the other
Exactly. Having a dope gaming pc in your backpack you can play anywhere is the dream.

Now that company offers crossplays handheld will be my choice. ehehe
The Steamdeck was outsold by the Wii U. I know better then to believe the hype. The random emutrooning, Valve glazing as well as the damning physiognomy tells me all I need to know. ✌️
😂
You forgot about the Xbox series S on 300$
You make a lot of good points, but no offense but whenever you PC guys talk about consoles, it’s like you still think it’s 2010 or somthing.
Yea I’ve never had an issue with battery unless I’m in a situation where I’m playing for a long time and that case I’m always next to an outlet.
I'm still using my ps3 and ps4 I don't Even care for a ps5 anytime soon
Microsoft alrdy announced their own handheld 😂😂😂😂 then after tat Sony announced their own handheld
All true. Idk if there will be another generation of home consoles as we know them after the next Xbox and ps6.
No they won’t for me. Shit hurts my hands to use. I’ll stick with a console and lite weight controller.
If they keep making them. Perks of handheld PCs though are you can use any controller. I played through Elden Ring with a switch pro controller docked to my tv😂 The steam deck is worth a try. Legion go and Ally X hurt my hands too. The steam deck ergonomics are top tier.
Yoooo first
Ayy. Thanks so much for being first!!
All it would take is a dock that boosts performance of the handheld when docked and consoles would be done!
