  • Tacking and gybing my catamaran in and out of the wind shadow of False Nara Inlet. Fluky winds would disappear closer to the island or swirl about with the odd gust hitting, plus a strong current when further out made tacking more difficult.

    One of the few videos on tacking a cat where I'm able to see all the action. Not an experienced sailor, did some time on a little Force 5 in my teens with a friend, but is it normal on a cat to have such a stationary boom on the main? I didn't notice it swinging much at all.

      Glad you found it useful. I’ve never sailed another cat. I basically have the boom hauled in tight when tacking, meaning there’s minimal boom swinging through the middle of the tack. It’s also a small easily handled boom...most of the power is in headsail making for easier sail control all up.
