      That's one of my theories.
      Eldrad Ulthran has been supporting Roboute's efforts. He even sent a representative, Illyanne Natase, to advise Roboute during the Indomitus Crusade and Plaguewars in Ultramar. It is possible that the plan that Roboute came up with to defeat Mortarion and attack Nurgle's Garden was influenced by Natase.
      So, what do the Craft World Eldar get out if this? As noted, Nurgle's Garden is now damaged. Could this be an initial strike to set the stage for a rescue mission? Perhaps.

    The only way they are going to follow through on a rebirth of the Emperor is if they go forward with an End Times scenario. Frankly, I don't trust GW to do justice to that sort of story arc.

    • @saltedllama2759
      @saltedllama2759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      They won't go the End Times route with a successful game backed by a successful backdrop. Warhammer Fantasy was a completely dead game; despite the massive support GW gave it in 7th and 8th edition, sales were tanking, turnout for events was an all-time low (and steadily declined for 10 straight years), and people at-large were done with the medieval-based fantasy on the tabletop after the LotR bubble. End Times happened because, despite their efforts to revitalize the game (new rules, rapid book releases, lower prices on new kits - yup, it happend), it continued to shrink. Plus, the fluff was horridly unoriginal, stolen directly from Earth's maps and poor-man's Tolkien, cherry-picked from all over history so it didn't feel cohesive, and the forums even had no activity. AoS has since sold more in 5 years than WHFB did in its previous 25 combined, and the tournaments are sold-out at every event, even during covid. 40k is enormously successful and enjoying it's most successful run in the hobby's history. It has bled into the mainstream and become commonplace on the tongues of people across different genres, and even celebrities. Their IP is sought after everywhere. Besides, we already had an "End Times" equivalent in 40k with the Gathering Storm series; Guilliman being brought back and the giant rift tearing across the galaxy, and the same rules from 3rd to 7th finally getting a full-scale reboot with all armies starting back at zero. The only way a truly End Times event happens in 40k is if 40k is suddenly a dying game as the (thankfully dead) WHFB was.

    First, we do not know if this is the first time that the Emperor spoke. During the Age of Apostasy, the Emperor may have spoken to Alicia Dominica. No one knows what happened there.
    Second, in my opinion, the Emperor did not possess Guilliman. While he was in the Garden of Nurgle, there are none of the characteristics of possession. Typically, the possessed lose all memory of the event and the Emperor speak in the first person, such as when he possessed Malcador during *Deliverance Lost*. Guilliman still spoke in the first person and remembered all the events.
    There are three possibilities. First, Guilliman's own psychic power is being manifested. While he claims that he has no such gifts, all primarchs are born of the warp and have some connection. He thinks it's the Emperor, but it's really his.
    Second, Guilliman is able to channel the Emperor's power. Guilliman, by focusing on the Emperor's sword, he can channel the Emperor's power. "The sword is the key. Draw on your father's power or die" said Natase. When Mortarion felt the power flow through the warp, that was Guilliman drawing on it.
    Third, despite all appearances, this is the Emperor. But why would he not announce himself?
    Personally, I think that Guilliman has learned how to draw on the Emperor's power and focus it.
    Guilliman fears what's on the throne. Keep in mind that Guilliman's relationship with the Emperor is at a rocky point. "He is not my father" did Roboute proclaimed. Roboute does not trust what is on the throne any ore (if he actually did before).

      Yeah, I’m leaning towards Guilliman being able to channel the Emperor’s power, and I’m of the opinion that while Guilliman respected and loved the Emperor during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, he was always more loyal to the people of Imperium and the Emperor’s dream than to the guy himself. Even long before the Heresy, he was thinking of possibilities for if the Emperor should die and how the Imperium would continue in his absence, something I think that few of the Primarchs ever dared to even briefly consider. And he’s one of the Primarchs that, in my and others opinions, if faced with the choice of saving humanity or the Emperor- or even of killing the latter to save the former-he would choose humanity every time.

    • @saltedllama2759
      @saltedllama2759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That's an illogical thought process. End Times happened because Warhammer Fantasy was an absolutely dead game with completely unoriginal/stolen fluff from Tolkien and earth/not-earth. Age of Sigmar has also been more successful in 5 short years in terms of sales and tournament participation than Warhammer Fantasy was in the previous 25, and has completely original fluff that keeps improving. Warhammer 40k (and GW), on the other hand, is enjoying its most successful run in its history. 40k isn't going anywhere. It's more like the MCU where it opens all kinds of (unlikely) doors like these so there are possibilities to go in any direction, and leave the fans talking.

The emperor is just one person, and there are 4 (ehh 5) chaos gods, hes still outnumbered and cant be everywhere at once. His primarch spear heads are gone but for one, though maybe he could find a few. I got into 40k in the early 2010s through the RPGs Dark Heresy, Deathwatch, and Rogue Trader. In our Deathwatch game, the GM made a book character one of the lost primarchs. I had left the game due to moving across the country, but when the reveal happened, all of the players just let the Primarch die/sacrifice himself because "reasons". It pissed me off so much because even in 2012, I saw the HUGE implications of having a loyalist Primarch (even a disgraced one returned) alive in the setting. The GM was setting up a "convince him to join the Imperium" moment, and the players just murder-hobo'd their way around it.
    When Papa G-man came back, I felt 100% vindicated on my feelings. Granted I was playing an Ultramarine in that game so my character would have seen a Primarch (Even one of the lost ones) as a blessing with valuable information and insight.
    So, seeing the Big E come back isn't too farfetched, in my mind. We've seen crazier things happen.

    I wonder if the Necrons might end up not only making a formal alliance with the Imperium, but might also be asked (or NOT asked) to put their unique understanding of cybernetics, time, and immortality to use restoring the Emperor, the no longer understood or fixable mechanism that is the golden throne (maybe adding those handy antiwarp pilons that held the eye shut fast from dearly departed Cadia in some form), if not BOTH. The thought of a risen Master of Mankind with mastery of War craft AND the technology of the Necrons gives ME the chills. Here's some tension potential.
    The Emperor has awoken, his psychic presence within the warp bolstered, while his body remains broken and infirm.
    As his mind strengthens and a thousand fractured pieces mend, his brilliance and glory burst forth into the warp, as Slannesh once did millenia ago. Yet rather than consume and gorge and destroy, the Emperors presence bolsters too mankind. As the immortal God Emperor of Mankind marches upon the fortresses of the warp, in real space his armies surge forward with renewed vigor. Dead heroes and champions return as his saints, his golden light crowning his own daemons. And yet, in exchange for all this, his body falters even more. For him to become a God, his flesh must die.
    Guilliman sees his father faltering, and begins in earnest to restore his body, to return him to Mankind. Deep within his laboratories, Cawl and his greatest allies labor to craft an armor capable of reviving the Emperor, and with forbidden help from the Eldar, comes fruit. Slowly, but promising.
    Still, the Presence of the Emperor persists in the warp. The fields of Nurgle burn and evaporate before his wrath. The pleasure halls of Slaanesh are sundered and broken. The blood soaked armies upon the fields of Khornes' throne are slaughtered and cleansed and then broken upon the will of the Emperor. Here, the Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights bows before his Lord. The Father and the Son turn their gaze towards the labyrinthine palace of Tzeentch, and his whispers invite them and promise knowledge. They shall offer no secrets, and be only wiped from reality and beyond.
    And yet, as the threat of Chaos wanes upon the inevitable, it is finished. As the walls of the last bastion are torn asunder, the Emperors corpse is treated and brought back to health. As Tzeentch and the Emperor cross blade and staff, his body is fitted with a golden plate ripped from the throne itself. At the moment he raises his sword to strike at Tzeentchs' battered essence, the armor is activated.
    On the cusp of victory, the Emperor is awakened, his presence and mind ripped from the warp, and his eyes open.
    The Emperor is reborn, at the cost of ultimate victory.

    Considering that the Emperor is essentially acting as a slammed shut door to the Chaos gate that Magnus opened during the heresy. The change in the emporer's behavior could very well be due to the corruption of Chaos itself. Consider that all the while the emperor is seated on the golden throne the ruinous powers are constantly beating at his back. Being a perpetual or not the emperor is still human, powerful yes but still human and only one human at that. Considering how long he's been keeping Chaos at bay there is no doubt that it's taking a toll on him and the change from the man he was to the "god" he now his is a result of that toll.
    Maybe Roboute knows this, in fact his father could have told him of that inevitability during his days long meeting with his father and now with the eventuality that Roboute has been warned about coming all the more closer he's trying to find a way to prevent it even though it might already be too late, Though I don't necessarily blame Roboute for dragging his feet because he has to consider his priorities to, like trying to close Magnus's chaos gate before the Emperor could be revived if it can even be closed.

He's proven time and time again that he's loyal. Guilliman out of any of the primarchs, save for the Lion maybe, could pull off a rebellion. He had the largest, most organized legion, that never to my knowledge had any mutinous inclinations. As I see it the biggest problem with bringing Big E back is that they'd have to do massive power leaps for every antagonist in the setting to keep pace. With primarchs it's one thing; you just bring back more traitor primarchs to set the scales, but the Emperor? They'd have to do some wacky shit for that to balance out, and I DEEPLY worry what that'd do to the setting. It already got mildly cheesy with the massive overnight, out of the blue lore power jump with the primaris and all their tau-like fancy wargear. They managed to balance that out a little bit with books and galactic level threats, but if they keep doing this it could quickly spiral out of control.

  • @danpitzer765
    @danpitzer765 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thing is, there's 5 ways I know of to get the Emperor back into action. And some are sure things if the attempt is allowed to start.
    #1 - Iffy but possible. Fabius Bile's mastery of cloning is pretty much up to match the Emperor's now. He also knows how to make a device to seamlessly transfer minds and souls. Finally, his loyalty is to his research and his own survival, not the ruinous powers. So he could be convinced.
    #2 - Difficult to initiate, but probably a sure thing. Azhek Ahriman can wield effectively any magic ever known at this point, and has multiple greater daemons bound that could be used as fuel. He also is not actually a chaos marine, as he is more 'wrong place, wrong time, trying to deal with the horrible hand he was dealt'. If the Eldar gave him the info on Tzeentch that would let him be free of Magnus' geas, and the emperor would restore the rubric marines to life, Ahriman would be unlikely to hesitate in weaving a healing spell of power that could only be bested by Isha, Nurgle, or Tzeentch directly...and Tzeentch may even help, because the Emperor returning would monkeywrench /everyone/, and Tzeentch loves that stuff.
    #3 - Unlikely, but possible and kinda funny. Faith. The Word Bearers created the Imperial Cult, and the fanaticism they so carefully crafted has led to God-Emperor, saints, and seemingly, the Legion of the Damned. If that faith grows enough, and in the right direction, it could heal the Emperor, meaning that ultimately Lorghar undid Horus' greatest work.
    #4 - Unlikely, but if initiated, a sure thing. Isha. If enough of her strength can get out of nurgle's playroom now, as a goddess of life, she is uniquely suited. She may be restrained by being the goddess of ELDAR life, but I'm certain there are workarounds that could be used...even if they come back to #2 as a means. After all, if she fed Ahriman the knowledge to do it, the Emperor getting up could swiftly smack down Magnus and force Nurgle to regroup (letting Isha escape at last). They would both gain, so it's far from impossible.
    #5 - Potentially the easiest to negotiate, /IF/ you could get the imperium to allow it. The Dark Eldar could bring him back without any real effort since his soul is still attached to the body and they don't have to rip it out of the hands of the pervgod with raw science. Oddly, this method is the one /least/ likely to be objectionable to the emperor, as it's just science, no spells involved, and the Dark Eldar aren't traitors to him.

    • @combomaster666
      @combomaster666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt there is any chance at all that anyone in the imperium would trust dark eldar to go anywhere near the golden throne and emperors soul. Trapping emperors soul and all the power it comes with in a spirit stone would be a wet dream.

May well murder them, but will certainly make the pervgod cry.

    I do not know if they will ever bring the Emperor back, that might be a bridge too far. But, if they do, that could be the setting for one of the most depressing moments in the lore. The first time he and Guilliman speak in private now that the Primarch knows where he stands in the Emperor's eyes.
    I mean publicly they will embrace, father and son, but in private they will acknowladge that that that bond is gone. With Guilliman saying that he will serve the Emperor, but that he no longer considers himself his son and the Emperor saying that for his plans that will suffice, kinda like what he said to Angron. It would be even worse if the other loyalist Primarchs return.
    Leman served as the Emperor's executioner and possibly killed two of his brothers for the Emperor and told a Custodies that the Primarchs had a special bond with the Emperor. He would now realize that he had killed out of devotion for someone who saw him as an attack dog and possibly nothing else. It would also not help his, over inflated, ego to remember what he told the Custodies and imagine them laughing at him behind his back. They might even, though I doubt it, ask the question.
    If he is not truly their father, are they truly brothers?
    I think many of them would feel betrayed and hurt; they might still serve, but the family will have been broken.

    If you consider the actions accredited to the emperor as being caused by the emperors soul forming a new god like being which was influenced by the thousands of years or worship and then Guilliman were to resurrect the body and mind of the emperor proper, well there isn't much reason to assume that new god would just go away nor that it would in the long run even align with the reborn emperor... in other words you could end up with a war between the emperor and himself.

    "The man that was", is no more. No matter what happens, a return to flesh would not be a return of the man he was, he's been through too much, seen and learned too much. Honestly, imo, the only option would be for the Emperor to ascend. He would pass from the physical form on the throne through the Warp gate and close it behind him. No doubt, some kind of warning would be given to the necessary parties in the palace to clear it, as an action like that would cause significant damage. Once risen, the Emperor is powerful enough to go toe to toe with the Chaos gods and in the Warp is the only place he can fight them directly. Once he's done all he can, he can return to Terra in a physical form, without loosing any potency. He is a god after all. As for Isha and the Tree of Life, iirc, Russ is also there looking for it and may have become trapped there. When the Emperor burned Nurgles Garden, it most likely opened the door for Russ and Isha to escape to real space.

    The revival of the Emperor would mark the beginnings of the end of the entire 40k story, because if you have the Emp getting up from the Golden Throne, you have to have the End Times happen soon after that, or even during. I don't think that GW would put their money-maker in any sort of position of being permanently ended anytime soon, or even for a few decades. They would have to have a massive restructuring of how they work as a company or even just go bankrupt before they would be willing to give any sort of official end to the massive plotlines like the prospect of the End Times that the whole narrative is structured around.

    all it would take is substituting soething on the golden throne while he rebirthed. if he came back the direction would be back again. hed likely find a way to put something else there or someone else so he could do whatever. or maybe rule from the throne. the emperor being alive and giving humanity direction is what wh40k needs really.

    In my opinion I'm feeling the only way that the Emperor could return would be in an arc that ends with the Emperor having no choice but to return to the golden throne for the Betterment, Safety and Security of the entire Imperium. Of course such an arc would not be easy to make work and make sense as well as to not contradict with the existing lore. but I'm feeling that it would be one of the only ways (at least I'm my mind) that the Emperor could return to the Galaxy and the Imperium. But that's just my take on things

    If the emperor does come back onto the mortal plane he would not be able to continue as he is in the warp.
    Either he sacrifices the gains he has made/is making in his warp battle with the gods or he convinces Guilliman to keep him on the golden throne as is but try and rescue Magnus.
    Magnus needs to be brought into the fold.
    I see it being a case of the Big E telling Guilliman to strike a deal with the Eldar to go off and search for pieces of Magnus and try to summon him to put him back together again.
    Without Magnus there’s no hope for the Big E making a physical return.

    Presently reading Galaxy in Flames. 3rd of the heresy series.
    Here and in the previous book, chaos discusses with Horus aspects of the Emporer having designs on ascending to God hood.
    Indeed, chaos' word is untrusting, chaos used this apperent big aspiration to turn horus. Amongst other things.
    Was chaos telling the truth? Is chaos manipulating the Emporer? Was euphrati keeler's ascent to sainthood a chaos machination?
    Where did keeler's powers come from?
    This is pretty much irony, guilleman who broke the word bearers for Thier worship of the Emporer now is a great big irony of the lore. Will the contempt of religion become contempt of the big e? Will there be contempt for guilliman!?

    If they restore the Emperor the only thing they would accomplish is restoring his humanity and physical health. But the Emperor would not leave the Golden Throne by any means.
    It just means he will be able to communicate and give further orders more accurately. For those thinking he would be back on the battlefield, this can't happen because the Emperor's psychic power is at the greatest level its ever been. Without him, no one can traverse space and the Deamons would attempt harder to storm Terra from the Throne room. He has to stay there. Granted I would love to see him restored as he can finally have more interesting interactions.

      I don't think malcador should be brought back (that would negate his sacrifice) but a new sigilite is exactly what the setting needs. Best to make it a young man that is a foil to the readers understanding of the characters surrounding them. It would even be convient to make it a blood relative of malcs shadowed secretly by a custodes.

    It's fun speculation, but with regards to Guilliman actively attempting anything to get Big E back in the ring, with the current lore where it is I don't see it as even remotely viable. Also the story line for Valdor (or at least his possible return) has alot more potential to have Emperor changing ramifications than anything Guilliman will attempt. The big thing to consider with Guilliman is that he has so much that needs to be done directly that he really doesn't have time to sit on Terra. This fact combined with the fact that the Custodes won't let him compromise the security of the Emperor without the Emperor's direct authorization (meaning that the Emperor communicates with them psychically) also would kill off any concept of Guilliman forcing the Emperor into being reborn. I also don't see Cawl being brought into this situation by Guilliman either. While Cawl does serve at the pleasure of the primarch he is obsessed with his personal projects, and in many cases, is actively ducking Guilliman to keep pushing his goals forward. He hates to be chained down and while he is as ambitious as the Emperor himself in many ways, I don't see Cawls story arch getting shifted that direction (Please give us a new Cawl book soon!). Ultimately, I think the videos you did some months ago about progressing after God Blight are more akin to the direction the lore will take. Guilliman needs to progress into the next major offensive to reclaim territory, and another Primarch is sure to make an appearance whether that is Fulgrim, Perturabo, or the, at this point so over delayed people are losing interest in the setup, Lion El' Johnson. The setting currently is perfect for the Lion to be the release as the lore regarding the dark angels massing in Imperium Nihilus won't provide a betting setting for his reintroduction, especially as Dante is currently still just getting Baal established as the governmental center for the region, and travel is severely limited which keeps him and the Blood Angels in slowly expanding box for a while. (Please give us another Dante/Mephiston book soon as well)

    They don’t do it and said they wouldn’t every have the emperor leave the golden throne because the golden throne is imperative to the setting. As a huge publicly traded companies they aren’t willing to take risks like that
